Book Stannis becomes hell of a lot more likeable in a Dance with Dragons. When we first meet him in Clash I hated him, especially the way he treated Cressen's

I was still reading the books during S2, and the episode prior to that I wasn't sure who I was rooting for. Then I read the "Renly's peach" monologue and became Team Stannis for life. I'm curious how many of the fans who really love Stannis first saw him on the show. I know this topic has come up a lot before. Dillane's Stannis is just so much more sympathetic than book Stannis. I think the big part was Dillane's performance and the scenes with Shireen. He definitely showed another side of Stannis in those scenes that made the character more likable to TV audiences. I agree that Stannis becomes more likable by Dance With Dragons. I think I became Stannis? Hell Yeah! when he and his army bailed out the Wall in a Storm of Swords. Another change on the show that I liked but it also met that another part of the books that I hoped would make the show didn't make the show: Davos at the Wall and giving advice to Jon "Fail again." But then we did not get Davos at the White Harbor and the epic Manderly speech.

Same. I don't know if this is mentioned before or not (I'm too lazy to look) One change I really did like that the show did was not have Stannis stuck on a boat during the battle of the Blackwater. I liked that they had him fighting and even when he was losing, he literally had be dragged away in defeat. Such a contrast to Joffrey, who left it to his men and Tyrion to handle the battle. Even though I knew the outcome, I was rooting for Stannis to somehow win. Stannis was fighting on land in the books though wasn't he? Imry Florent had command of the navy and Stannis was picked up by Saan's ships I think You might be right. I just remember the part of him on the ships. I'd have to re-read that part of the books.

I think that even before Stannis actually acted in a sympathetic way, like with Shireen, Dillane made him more sympathetic. Just seeing the cringes and complicated pained expressions on his face when Mel was doing shady shit said so much. It gave him depth that he didn't have in the books until later because Stannis wasn't a POV character. Plus, Dillane is very handsome with kind eyes, and it's impossible not to feel a little love toward that.

I'm curious how many of the fans who really love Stannis first saw him on the show. I know this topic has come up a lot before. Dillane's Stannis is just so much more sympathetic than book Stannis. It's mainly like kingeomer explained, Show!Stannis trying to interact more with Shireen than Book!Stannis like . One person pointed it out nicely that the book hasn't done with Stannis and it's that Stannis trying to having a good relationship with Shireen, while in the book, we don't see any and it's just him making political choices. It's why Show!Shireen is more popular than her book counterpart. The fact that her death adds the huge heartbreaking moment that a lovable character got burned by her own father, this may won't be much for Book!Shireen as presumably she gonna get burn by Mel. These reasons are why i like parts of Jaime's difference from his book counterpart. Show!Jaime attempts to be closer to his children, like Myrcella before she died. We don't see any of this with Book!Jaime, though a little with Tommen.

And another thing i forgot to include parts that the show done well.
The Jorah/Daario dynamic. In the book, it's pretty clear that Jorah and Daario represent the typical polar romantic interests of a teenage girl, aka Dany. Daario suppose to represent as the bad boy archetype who teenage girl would swoon over and Jorah as the nice guy who girls wouldn't choose cause "they're too nice" which in reality it's cause they have a nice guy syndrome.
I feel like this wouldn't work well in the show as this idea has been done to death, especially back in the 80's and 90's. In addition, the show has made Daario and Jorah more complicated. Given with Jorah's scene in The Door and Daario's in Winds of Winter, it helped the case to break them out of their stereotypical role.
Finally, about the faegon plot, I agreed that Aegon seems really pointless in the story as he's only a plot device for Dany. But also another reason why i think the Aegon plot is really stupid is cause if he's really a Blackfyre, then it makes it more incredibly dumb. Considering the Blackfyre went extinct a hundred years ago, so how in the hell did the female Blackfyres (a theory explained how the Blackfrye blood continues through the female line) managed to maintain their heritage to a few more generations of their Blackfryes. Until hundred years later, Aegon is suppose to restore the lost legacy that died a hundred years ago, something that would remain outdated.

I actually wasn't a Stannis (or Davos) fan until they had that discussion about Renly's peach. For some reason it just put everything in a completely different perspective and I loved them ever since.
I did like Davos more on the show at first because of Liam (I was reading/watching S2/aCoK at the same time)
