What are some changes on the show that you actually preferred from how they went down in the book?
For me, aging up the characters and no extra Greyjoys.

For me, its toning down some of George's over the top physical descriptions--blue hair and gold teeth, no nose, two different colored eyes, half a head of hair red, the other half white, Roose with his leeches, etc etc. Too cartoonish, IMO.

That's a good point too! Although part of me wished that when they brought in NuDaario that he would have blue hair and no explanation.

I loved the change with Tywin being at Harrenhaal while Arya was there. Not that it really had any affect on the story, but I thought that one was for the better.

I like what they've done with Cersei's character. She went from straight up villian in the book to a more complex (but still crazy) character in the show. Love what they're doing. Made me like a character I didn't care for in the books on first read.

I have to say I also liked the private conversation between Cersei and Robert-- their 'Did we ever have a chance? No.' conversation. It felt, I don't know, real, like the conversation between any two long-married antagonists who've finally reached some kind of...peace.

I liked that as well, really any of the conversations we wouldn't have been able to witness in the books have gone over really well.

I think it's good that they changed Daario's hair colour. It's far more plausible that a teenage girl falls for guy like that (Daario v2) instead of some weird anime character.

There was a Tywin scene in S1 I really loved too. I think it's the one where he is skinning a deer or something

The fact that we don't have fools on the show (except ser Dontos). For some reason I disliked them in the books. Aging everyone up was a bold change and it worked.

And that scene is a truly beautiful setup for any scene when he's around with family members. And I also liked that it was him we saw at Harrenhal. Besides, I agree with you, iheartseverus. And... I guess, I'm the only one who liked the "smuff the beetles" scene. :leaving:

I wouldn't mind the two different coloured eyes since it's actually a thing that happens in real life (see: Mila Kunis, one blue eye, one brown). But yeah, I agree with everything else.

I'm re-watching The Lion and the Rose now. I liked the subtle changes they made here too. Mostly the "former Queen Regent" part lol

While I do like the scene between these two, it is also a hint of the Cersei character we would get in the years to come and that is what I'm becoming less and less zen about.

I have to agree with iheartseverus: that Cersei/Robert scene was a good one, it put a little humanity into both characters. 1. Aging up the "kids" 2. Davos/Shireen scenes 3. While I think GRRM's Red Wedding chapter is always going to be the best chapter he's written and I love how he did it in the books, I thought the show making it more of a surprise rather then creeping dread was a good change. Especially for people who had no clue it was coming. 4. Ned telling Yoren, "Baelor", when he spots Arya. 5. I thought Locke was a good baddie and I wish the show kept him around for a little bit longer.

She was Unsullied, turned to book reader lately.

We'll wait and see how the whole thing plays out but I've been hoping for quite a while that the show would ditch the entire Fake Arya plot and replace Ramsay's bride with someone else and they have so good stuff.
The whole notion of Jeyne Poole passing as Arya makes your head hurt if you think about it for too long (not to mention Martin effectively dropkicking her out of the story as soon as she served her plot purpose) so I think it was an easy choice to make.
