I gave it an 8. I debated about giving it a 9, but I decided in the end that Home flowed much better, and so I gave this one an 8 by comparison, although it's probably more like an 8.5 for me, because I thought it was better than 6x01. The opening scene was masterfully acted. Davos' face was just amazing, but I knew his expressions were killer. Seeing Kit Harington be able to pull off the complex emotions Jon Snow woke up feeling was the real treat. The way his voice broke when he said Olly. It's so weird. All this time I've been expecting death to do something magical to his personality. But no, he is acting exactly how you might expect a person to act if they were betrayed, murdered, and somehow resurrected. It seems realistic. This is crazy! How are they pulling this off? Davos comes in with the "fuck it" you were dead and now you're not, time to move on. He is the absolute best. I really like how they're doing the Bran visions. When we see Bran and Brynden it acts as a visual queue that we're getting a vision and prepares us for that. The choreography in the fight scene was so good, like a fucking dance. I felt like Howland Reed stabbed me in the back too. I'm so shocked by how that all went down. And not shocked at all, but still shocked. I was disappointed that they teased Lyanna but didn't let us in, but that's just me being impatient. It was well done. Tyrion scene: It went on for too long, I think. I laughed out loud at Grey Worm's "patrol" "patrol" "patrol," but it should have ended after that. It started to feel silly to me, and I was taken out of the moment...um, why are we seeing this? I really liked Sam and Gilly on rewatch. "I would never do that to the father of my son." Aw. I still felt like the Varys scene went on a bit longer than necessary. Arya's montage was gold. I usually hate montages. WTF is up with Pycelle? We know he's faking his advanced senility, so why did he let the Lannisters hear him ragging on them? His fart was a brilliant touch. I'm torn about seeing the twins acting as a unit. On the one hand, I always wanted to witness that. On the other hand, they're not very good at getting shit done, and it's getting a bit hard to believe that no one would be arresting them. SO MUCH CLEGANEBOWL FORESHADOWING!!! It's so funny to think that the most maligned of all fan theories is not only happening, but Jaime Lannister is hyping it on show too. The ending scene was brilliant, and it put me in a nasty funk. Edd ain't got no more friends, y'all.

Always love your summaries @witchy - we think a lot alike! The ending has really put me in a poor mood too for some reason. A lot of people feel it's Jon's triumphant moment to tell his job to shove it, but in many ways it's sad because now we know for certain he's changed fundamentally forever. The loss of innocence (or idealism) is always painful for young people to face reality but Jon's reality is totally fucked up now. The man witnessed his own murder and is clearly not 'over it' as we saw him sitting there staring at his leather tunic all bloody and ripped from the knives. That has to be completely depressing and fucked up.
But anyways - the rest of the episode was still solid and better than a lot of them in the past, definitely better than 6x01 but not better than 6x02 which for me will probably always be a top 5 episode.
Oh and I agree with you, it's time for the twins to be separated for good. The show is dragging this out way too long and it's going nowhere. I feel like they're spinning wheels for something big they have planned for Cersei but they want to keep Jaime around for it ... her trial I guess?

I think they are keeping Jaime around because Cersei and Tommen are going to start to split and Jaime will be forced to choose between her and his son who is siding with his wife, who is siding with the Sparrows.

And Jaime will choose Tommen... It may happen like that, I still don't like it but at least it will happen. I think if it doesn't it will be my biggest disappointment of the season.

They haven't known what to do with Jaime for the past couple seasons. He's one of my favorite characters in the books, but the show really needs to get on with his storyline.

I would have been happy if they let the character sit out (like Bran) until they had something good for him to do. They do need to get on with his storyline. NCW is too talented to be wasted like this.

6x01 average rating: 7.56 | 41 members voted. 6x02 average rating: 9.05 | 38 members voted. 6x03 average rating: 8.11 | 38 members voted. 6x02 > 6x03 > 6x01 (Mods: I suggest we leave this thread open, so that people who want to comment on average ratings can do that here. Maybe just lock the poll and not the entire thread? Thanks! )

It didn't have any poorly written scenes and the pacing from one to the next was excellent. 6x03 was still decent but suffered a couple laggy bits and some transition issues form one story to the next ... they crammed too much into the episode is my opinion. Overall it was still very good and better than the premiere.

That didn't happen with 6x01 and 6x02. Most people didn't change their votes for the first two episodes. Also, for 6x03, "7" got the majority of votes early on but then it changed and now it's "9".

Re-watching 6x03 was especially important because I think a lot of us missed some pretty subtle details that needed to be seen again and thought about a bit. I was originally going to go with a 7 but my re-watch bumped it to an 8. There's a lot of great stuff in 6x03 but we tend to get bogged down with nitpicking because we're very scrupulous fans here in our group.

The only thing that felt off for me was Tyrion's small talk 101, because it was way too long, other than that I cannot deny I enjoyed every scene. So a 9 for me. I don't have time to do rewatch every week, so I'll probably do one once the season has ended.

This was a much subtler episode and more emotionally troubling, which made it harder to pace, I think. That ToJ fight scene will probably be remembered as one of the best scenes of the series. For that reason, alone, I kind of wish I'd gone with 9.

I'm curious who else gave it a 10. I only did that cause Olly died, otherwise it would've been an 8 EDIT: It didn't occur to me to actually go back and check

Of course I could go nitpick-y (which would require a rewatch) but so far I didn't peek into these threads before I saw the episode and I settle for a rating immediately after watching.
