Al's Mr. Pacing. Any episode with more than five storylines in it is shit in his book these days. But yeah. It must be opposite day or something. The pacing was a lot better than in the first episode, though. Maybe Al needs to rewatch it. I rewatched the episode and it's closer to an 8 now and slightly better than the premiere. However, I still thought the pacing and even the transitions between storylines didn't really help the episode. Although I will say the Top 5 scenes are Tower of Joy, Davos and Mel finding Jon alive, Braavos Montage, Conversation between the HS and Tommen, and the final scene with the mutineers deaths and Jon saying "My Watch is Ended." The scene with Varys interrogating the Green whore wasn't bad either. It just seemed like scenes were better on their own and could have been placed or edited better. Also I don't hate every episode with more than five storylines. Home had 7 storylines and I really enjoyed it.

Anyway I have a feeling this will end up being the best season of the show by the time we get to Winds of Winter, King of Winter, Hearts Turned to Stone, or whatever the fuck the finale is called.

Gave it a six.
Loved the last line by Jon. Was curious about what was going on with Rickon and the Umbers. And Jon walking around was honestly entertaining after waiting so many years to see what he'd be like when he arose from the dead. ToJ was okay and much anticipated, but was NOT the part of the vision we've all been waiting for (most of us, anyway). Just tell me R+L equals J already!
But overall not much happened in this one for me to rate it as highly as the other episodes. Good watching, but not the strongest episode. Strong six, but mostly because of the weight of learning about Jon's resurrection. Without that to interest me, I'm not sure what I would have rated it.

I was definitely a bit harsh on this first up - seem to have been rating more harshly this season in general, think it's down to all the hype. It's an 8 on rewatch for sure, better than the premiere but not by a lot. Still feel it jumped around too much, although was impressed with how they transitioned on a few occasions, namely Meereen to KL and KL to Braavos.
The great scenes really were great and elevated the episode from the lull in the middle.

The bar has been raised, especially after Hardhome and the finale last season IMO. We're being much more critical of the episodes and the creators seem to know that. They're going all out this season! I too bumped it up to an 8 after a re-watch where I could better appreciate some of the subtle parts I'd missed in my hype for obvious big scenes like Jon and ToJ. The episode is a real roller coaster though, some real highs and some real lows. The pace is weird.

That's interesting because I feel exactly the same, although I'm not sure a lot of people would agree. That's probably my favourite stretch of 3 episodes for the whole series. There's definitely the unreasonable expectation that they could keep up that relentless pacing. For early set-up it's been pretty lively still - sometimes too much so.

Hmm. Mixed bag, not sure how to rate it. Good: The cave scene with Bran and Bloodraven The actor playing Arthur Dayne. Varys in Meereen Dany and the Dosh Khaleen Tommen and the High Sparrow Qyburn's Dungeon. Ambivalent: The Wall Winterfell Braavos. Kind of bored of Arya's story atm. Hopefully it picks up now she isn't blind. Disliked: Small Council Meeting Tyrion, Grey Worm and Missandei. Ugh, that was cringeworthy. Seriously, I've just wanted to skip every Tyrion scene so far this season, except the dragon one, and that was only because of the awesome CGI. Sam and Gilly. I love those two characters but Gilly's dialogue is just plain bad. I like the actress well enough, but it's just not working IMO. Young Ned. Didn't like the actor i think I will give it 7, but lower end of the scale. Just read the comments above and for me at least I haven't really set that high of a bar as I did not enjoy season 5, so I already think this season is an improvement

After the old 9pm rewatch with the Unsullied, I found I enjoyed Arya's scenes more than on the first watch,
Although I understand what they wanted to do with Tyrion and his small council, it could have been easily done with just a few lines - just 20 seconds or something. It dragged on for waaay too long and again I was bored by the end

8! It was a decent episode overall, but felt a bit slow and dull compared to last weeks roller coaster. Yeah, pacing was really off this time.
Positives first: +++ ToJ!! What a fight scene! What a cliffhanger.. Fantastic scene(s) overall. I was so afraid that Arthur's dualwielding would look silly, but quite the contrary. + All the wall scenes were great. The acting from Kit, Liam, Carice and especially Owen Teale was on point. Really enjoyed the Wall this episode. Has Jon really changed? + Something actually happening in KL. Not much, but something! Tommen trying to fierce, but I can see him being brainwashed by the High Sparrow. + Kevan and co not being bossed around by Cersei & Jaime. So good to have Kevan and Olenna back! (Not to mention Mace THE ACE). + Winterfell. Smalljon Umber is a badass, but a total douchebag. The actor plays the role well. I feel so conflicted about the character. Turning Rickon over is a really dick move. Not to even mention him killing Shaggydog.. The Greatjon is rolling in his grave. + Arya's training montage was epic! Really enjoyed that one.
- Smalljon mocking the mighty Greatjon. One of the greatest fighters in Westeros dies offscreen. What a waste. - Meereen.. Varys scene was interesting to see him manipulating that prostitute. But the story line is still weak. The scene with Tyrion, Grey Worm and Missandei was horrific to say the least. Talk about filler scenes. - aaand Dany's adventures in Dosh Khaleen 2.0 sucks, do something already! - Sam and Gilly quite a boring scene with nothing special in it.

I've just re-watched it and upped my vote to a 9. I didn't think Kings Landing was very good first time around, but on a re-watch it was very good.
