I mentioned this in the other thread but I thought it was interesting how they used fire in this episode. Last week we had ice and all it's destructive power and then this week we get fire and it's destructive power. We first see fire destroying a little girl for a promise of a prophesy ( I HATE YOU STANNIS!!!!!!) but then we see fire again. And although it's used to destroy, it's also used to save lives. It's always been my contention that fire is both destruction and creation. Much like Dany, who is both a mother and a dragon. Well so long as you're on the parallel symbolism train (and I love those trains!) - don't forget Jon is the 'savior' of those who would perish in the ice and at the same time one who risks his men and the wall to do so. While Dany's calling Drogon into order and both taking life and saving life can be seen along the same vein in relation to their evolution as characters and the mistakes they've both made to get there. Dany abandons her 'watch' as Queen in the middle of being severely tested to take off on Drogon. Jon too will abandon his watch and be tested. Each of them has the strong theme of either Ice and Fire. Your write up with all the parallels says it better than I can!

There is a thread I participate on at the other forum discussing Dany's parallels with other characters, it's very interesting. Going back to this discussion, it goes back to finding balance within yourself. With regard to Dany, what she's trying to accomplish in Slaver's Bay requires that she uses her destructive forces but she has to learn how to moderate them and use them in conjunction with her more creative forces. I don't think she's achieved that balance but she struggles with it, which is a good thing. I like your comparison on Dany and Jon abandoning their "watch". I think as young leaders they are both constantly tested especially during ADWD. It's funny that you mentioned the Jon comparison because Jon also risked and lost a lot of lives but he also saved them, last episode. It's never easy for our young heroes.

I thought his size was about right tbh. At that point in the book Drogon is probably a little larger than a horse, with about a 20 ft wingspan. If anything he was a little bigger than he should be. I was quite happy with how he looked. I just watched it for a second time, and I liked it even more this time. There is really only 1 cgi shot I thought looked weak (the first shot of Dany's face after lift off), the rest looked pretty good imo. They should have made her wig blowing more, but that's a minor nitpick. Also, I noticed Dany said something in Valyrian to make Drogon fly. Couldn't make out what it was. Really like the music for the final scene too. When I watched it last night for the second time, it was better. I think that what those of us who miss the whip scene wanted was the confrontation of Dany and Drogon. Because it her confronting who she is and blah, blah, blah. However, I get that it would very hard to show that, especially as we aren't in Dany's head and I'm sure it would be quite expensive to show that kind of CGI. Have you been reading the reaction at the other board? It seems pretty negative unfortunately. Think it's averaging around a 7 when I looked. I think that's pretty unfair tbh. It's mostly all the Stannis fans freaking out about the Shireen scene.

It's mostly all the Stannis fans freaking out about the Shireen scene. That's too bad. I mean, Daznak wasn't as good as I wanted it to be but that's my own fault for having such an active imagination. :lol3:Regarding Shireen, although tragic (I HATE YOU STANNIS???) it was a good scene. However, overall it was a good episode and I think those who are Unsullied would have enjoyed it tremendously. Also, I found this picture of Drogon on the internet and it look so much better here then on my screen.

Drogon looked really really good in high resolution so I'm confident that those who are true fans and re-watch will agree it's pretty good. We have to cut them a little slack with the flight CGI. We cry about how little we've seen of the dragons but considering how badly it could have been done if they DID show lots of rushed special effects - seeing them when we have has been such a treat I enjoy it immensely more than a gluttony of computer animation to be honest.

It was awesome. Gave it a 9, but that's me nitpicking. The scene was fantastic. They should have kept Hizdahr, though. Even if just to be a red herring. Now there is no suspect other than the Meereenese prostitute, and... Missandei?

The CGI was a bit meh in some shots but that sequence would be hard to pull off even in a super-mega-blockbuster. They did a good job IMO, even without the whip

He just looked like my dog destroying one of his squeaky toys He would never harm his humans - just like Ol' Drogon

I liked that it showed that Ol' Dorgon although deadly is not the deus ex machina that will destroy the White Walkers/Others. The dragons will help tremendously but they are still limited.
