I'm pretty happy with it tbh. I knew this was probably going to be the toughest scene for the show to do. It looking a tad fake was inevitable. I thought there were scenes in Hardhome that looked fake as well. There's only so much you can do when adding a real person into cgi scenes.

Just re-watched the ending only (I will not rewatch the Shireen scene ever, for any reason)... it made me tear up again, so it definitely hit the spot. The music they did for this entire thing from that sad song they played when Jorah was banished and then again took Dany's hand to the weird creepy chanting music when the Harpies started standing up, to the sweet tender music for Dany's moment with Drogon before she mounted him - it was all so perfect and wonderful. I'm just trying hard to stay focused on that and the fact that finally Dany will become the Queen she needs to be (Drogon makes sure of it) and with Tyrion's help will finally get the fluck out of Essos altogether. I'm staying away from the rest of the internet. Wrapping myself in a dragon-wrapped bubble. dragon2

Just rewatched it and for me this is the single greatest scene I've ever seen.

I give it an 8.
Loved it so much. Really badass and breath taking.
Things I wish happened:
Whipping. I don't like the way the did drogons eyes. At certain angles it looks like cataracts. She looked a bit silly in that outfit on the dragon. I wish she hovered on him a bit instead of him doing a run up to fly. I wish he was bigger. But I guess they will save his size for the final season.

It was a detail I was willing to let go in the bigger picture but I guess some were really bugged by that. Drogon's eyes were supposed to be reptile/bird-like I think, like they were dilating back and forth with emotion. If you've ever seen a parrot, their eyes do that when they get excited. As others have noted, Dany had her 'riding gear' on underneath her dress (which is kind of weird she would be wearing that, no?) I preferred the runway flying... it gave you a sense of this being a pretty big effort for him to take off with Dany onboard, something he's never done before. Also, I don't think he should have been bigger - he's still quite young after all. There's always been speculation as to whether he'd be big enough to carry Dany by the time he needed to - but he did!

Was a bit disappointed to be honest. Thought they could have done more with Drogon in terms of him burning people. i actually thought the harpy attack was a bit weird and it made the whole thing feel awkward in terms of how everyone was positioned.
And then of course it ends on Tyrion's face. Don't they know this is Dany's moment ? I find it hard to believe they ran out funding they could have easily achieved that with the footage they had.
I don't even care about the CGI, but its clear they blew the budget on Hardhome lol
Also, i wanted Emilia to be more badass in that moment, but she was all soft and emotional. Lol the one time I want you to put on your badass queen voice!

They looked really bad to me on the pyramid scene and now. I think hovering would of been amazing as you see dany get to grips with him lifting off. I guess he is too small to pull that kind of maneuver. I loved the whipping scene in the books, wish it was included but his roar was so fucking scary that so that makes up for it. I guess I am impatient and want to see him huge. I need to re-watch to see what gear she was wearing. Anyways I am not nitpicking, I loved the scene and cried my eyes out regardless

I thought his size was about right tbh. At that point in the book Drogon is probably a little larger than a horse, with about a 20 ft wingspan. If anything he was a little bigger than he should be. I was quite happy with how he looked.
I just watched it for a second time, and I liked it even more this time. There is really only 1 cgi shot I thought looked weak (the first shot of Dany's face after lift off), the rest looked pretty good imo. They should have made her wig blowing more, but that's a minor nitpick. Also, I noticed Dany said something in Valyrian to make Drogon fly. Couldn't make out what it was. Really like the music for the final scene too.

Probably the best scene in the episode for sure but was still slightly underwhelmed, Dany whipping and taming him was huge for me( same with Barristans "here, me!"

I'm kind of glad they didn't give that line to Jorah or Daario at least. Challenging a dragon is something only Barristan the Bold would do!

I thought she said fly the first time I watched it, but the second time sounded different to me.

Wasn't good but it wasn't bad. The CGI itself was good when Drogon arrived and got progressively weaker. But besides that, there was a lot of just standing around after Drogon showed up rather than continued chaos. The whip would have worked better than the pause for touching moment thing. The scene also came on the heels of Shireen burning which sucked all the life out of the episode for me. This, all of this. Which is why I rated it a 5. Plus was she summoning the force to have Drogon come (which seemed silly) or was she closing her eyes bracing herself for her eventual death? I consider Emilia to be one of the weakest actresses on the show, but I will give her credit that she does work well with the CGI scenes. I did not like it closing on Tyrion myself. I also hope Dany sits out the finale, leaving everyone to wonder where she and Drogon went off to.

I think that what those of us who miss the whip scene wanted was the confrontation of Dany and Drogon. Because it her confronting who she is and blah, blah, blah. However, I get that it would very hard to show that, especially as we aren't in Dany's head and I'm sure it would be quite expensive to show that kind of CGI. Have you been reading the reaction at the other board?

I mentioned this in the other thread but I thought it was interesting how they used fire in this episode. Last week we had ice and all it's destructive power and then this week we get fire and it's destructive power. We first see fire destroying a little girl for a promise of a prophesy ( I HATE YOU STANNIS!!!!!!) but then we see fire again. And although it's used to destroy, it's also used to save lives. It's always been my contention that fire is both destruction and creation. Much like Dany, who is both a mother and a dragon.
