I think my fave part of that is "GRR Martin’s claim that his POV characters now possess a special authorial shield against rape." I keep seeing it said that Martin won't have Sansa raped because apparently he said he's not interested in writing a rape PoV, and I just don't see how that's any better. The books are chock full of rape but is he really showing how bad it is by always having it happen to voiceless women and never really exploring it with any of them? The closest is Cersei, but that's marital rape from a villain's PoV and it's one passage buried in otherwise delusional narration, right before she assaults a woman herself. My understanding was GRRM feels that writing a character being raped is outside of his ability to write accurately and would inherently be offensive to many rape victims. It's one of those things where you might have good intentions as far as your portrayal but you'll be damned by entering into that territory. It would also cause divisiveness among the awareness community between those who side with his decision and those who are offended.
