I just saw the hackiest piece of shit article by Indiewire (which I won't link because the piece of shit doesn't deserve any more page-views!) comparing the rape in the most recent episode of Outlander (which I don't watch) and the Sansa-Ramsay wedding night. I'm pretty sure the person who wrote it didn't watch the episode. She said it was shot like "torture porn"...yeah, because "torture porn" notoriously relies on reaction shots rather than body horror...right. Good one, dummy. Well-studied.
Then she went on to say that Outlander was more tasteful because their episode was directed by a woman, while GoT's was done by a man. As if Podeswa was some drooling fucking creep inflecting the rape scene with "male gaze". Which he didn't. He's also a gay guy btw, which she didn't bother considering was a possibility. Nope, for the sake of her article he's some fucking ape misogynist. Good one. And of all the shit I've heard about Outlander, I've NEVER heard that it's tasteful.
Seriously. Fuck these opportunistic bandwagoning fleabag fucking "journalists"!

I may not like what happened to Sansa in the last episode but that was far, far from torture porn. Come on, indiewire writer, really?

I hope she reads her comments. That one might stun her into amending her cookie-cutter chunk of shit "article" a tad.

For the record, what happened to Jamie Frazier in Outlander was pretty horrific and if done graphically (as I've heard it was, I don't watch the show) is a much closer approximation to 'torture porn' since the dude was quite literally tortured and raped, repeatedly by his captor. Is it somehow not as horrible because it was a man?! That woman is very blatantly wrong.

And this woman is someone who only reports about feminism You all know I have my issues with the Sansa scene, but labeling it "torture porn"...? I mean, that doesn't even warrant a reaction. I haven't read any of her other articles but I think this kind of bullshit gives feminism a bad name. "No men have ever been the victim of sexual violence" - umm, one of the men involved in the scene you're tearing apart was CASTRATED. If that is not sexual violence, then what is? EDIT: omfg, the rape victim in Outlander was male? LOL that makes her article even worse. Any half-decent feminist wants equality for all and should find acts of sexual violence against men as equally repugnant. The fact that she's lambasting the Sansa scene, probably on the basis of the fact that the victim was female, means that she really fucking shouldn't be a feminist journalist. Urgh, she and Anita Sarkeesian would probably be great friends.

And the word 'feminist' has such a negative connotation to it thanks to idiots like this journalist. Women should be treated equally to men...but that doesn't mean that: 1. Men should be treated like shit, 2. Or that any depiction of something bad happening to a woman is sexist. You know what these people should be doing instead of whining about tv shows? Making sure that rape is taken seriously as a crime and that the victims of rape aren't treated as if they were 'asking for it' because of their lifestyle choices. That would be much, much better than railing against a fictional tv series depicting the realistic treatment of women back in medieval times. To me, that would be a better way to spend their time.

The victim of horrific torture and rape in Outlander is a man and from what I've heard they did the scene quite graphically. I cannot actually believe she can put that stuff in print and no one cares enough to call that shit out for the disgusting lie that it is - plain and simple, she's twisting it around into an ugly feminist bullshit complaint. I loved Outlander (the books) but I won't watch the show.

It's not even feminist and dressing it up as feminism is actually quite damaging to feminism as that just reinforces the (incorrect) assumption that a lot of people have that it's about man-hating.

Yes that's what I meant about it's a lie. She's trying to frame it as a feminist argument but if you realize she's comparing Sansa's rape (and calling it torture porn) to a rape scene involving two men and violent torture on top of it, you realize it's actually anti-feminism. A lie.

Damn sati, there is an expression in my language that would praise you so much for this comment. I don't know how to translate it into English, though. So I'll stick with a "well done"!

Wow. I guess all the much more graphic Theon torture scenes just weren't memorable enough.

Wow. I guess all the much more graphic Theon torture scenes just weren't memorable enough. That line for me confirms that the lady who wrote the article doesn't actually watch GoT. She just saw the kerfuffle and hopped in on the bandwagoning knowing very well that the name "game of thrones" means a ton of page-views than the name "outlander' does by itself. So instead of just writing about the show she is watching, she decided that she could just critique GoT based on secondhand fucking info. :poop:
I know my initial post was angry enough as it is and there's no real point getting any more angry at the article's writer (especially after sati left that comment destroying her) but seriously...THAT BOTTOM-FEEDING FUCKING INDIEWIRE HACK SHOULD SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Yeah, I don't see how any regular viewer could forget scenes that more closely qualified as torture porn. What a crock. I have no desire to watch Outlander, but from what I've read of Jamie's torture, praising it as feminist sounds pretty sick.

Geez some of these articles are quite terrible. I remember when no one got mad (it wasn't even considered controversial) when Theon was tortured for many episodes in a row. Thank goodness that this mess is calming down.. hope D&D have nailed the aftermath in episode 7. By the way, do you guys think that Ramsay will rape Sansa off screen during the future episodes? Just like Jeyne Poole?

I hope Ramsay ends the season chained to a wall with Stannis, like Theon in the Winds preview chapter.

I had a couple days break from Tumblr because the rage was getting out of hands.. now I logged back in and they're still going strong. Some have extremely good points, but some are still demanding D&D heads on spikes. I saw someone raging at D&D for creating Ros only for sex and she was eventually killed off. None of these seem to know of Jeyne and other minor characters that GRRM created. I just think that this abuse is quite unfair for D&D, because GRRM does it as well.

I love it when you get angry Sadly anger is all I can really contribute to any discussion of the backlash to the scene in question. I just HATE these silly tag-along, platitude-regurgitating, nauseating, fucking annoying, supposed critics. While my response to their bullshit is as one-note as their analysis really...I still feel the need to chime in.
