I heard Robert Pattinson could have been in the running for Best Actor but once "You Were Really Never Here" showed, it was all over. I have a soft spot for Joaquin Phoenix.
I am happy to see Sofia Coppola do well. It will be interesting to see if these movies hold up over Oscar season.

I love that Sofia Coppola got the win. I can't wait to see The Beguiled. I always root for her. I didn't care for Lost in Translation...but I liked the movie she did with Kirsten Dunst about the sisters who commit suicide (I cannot remember the name of it). I want to see The Beguiled as well.

stoneheartsrevenge, that is a great video! I have to laugh because the This Is Us cast looks so awkward and the people interviewed are like, ummmm what??? He needs to come to Philly and find me because I would be like... Can I just give them all a hug please???? I don't know if this is the official Emmy chat thread. I guess it can be. I will chat it whenever, wherever.

Copying from American Gods because I aent off on a tangent: Well, here is the wonderful thing about Game of Thrones...it opened voters minds to the sci-fi/fantasy genre in the Emmys. American Gods has such a good chance thanks to GoT breaking through basically in it's first season (and usually Emmys have a year lag to catch up with something). Another show I forgot is Stranger Things, which I expect to contend this year. Like you said, everyone might not get nominated from AG and sometimes throwing up so many people in the same category can work against you. HBO learned this from GoT, when they would submit several people in the supporting categories and they pared it down. And also, this has been a terrific year for TV. So I won't be the one bitching about Emmy snubs when it's just like, there is so much good out there and you just cannot nominate them all. AG breaking through the Emmys in a big way would be a boon to Starz. I know they hoped that for Outlander, which did earn a few Emmy nods but has not broken through in best show or the acting categories yet. Forgot to add: sucks that This Is Us has not aired in the UK yet. It's good show. It sucks you in...I was not too sure about it after the pilot but by the 4th episode, I was sucked in. They need to work on plots for Kate and Kevin, outside of Kate's weight and Kevin's romantic life...but hopefully those two characters will be better developed in the next season. So i actually looked it up and apparently This Is Us did show here in the UK. At 10.35pm on Channel 4 in the run up to Christmas...its no wonder it performed poorly and I hadnt heard of it showing here. The Guardian had a good piece about it, noting how it was ome of the breakout shows of the year in the U.S. but here in the U.K. it didnt do so well. And that was due to poor scheduling (not the ideal time for the target audience) and also the difference between life in the US v UK. I cant speak to whether the latter is true or not, obviously, as I haven't seen the show. But I guess it does ring true for many other shows. The American political situation, and racial tensions, amd LGBTQ+ experience is very different from the experience in the UK. So where a show resonates with a US audience i dont think it necessarily will with others. (Again though,i can't actually speak to whether this is true for This Is Us). I'll only bitch about Emmy snubs if nominations go to undeserving shows and/or actors. I'm thinking of stuff like Santa Clarita Diet for comedy series or lead comedy actor/ress. Brief breakdown of my nominee picks, so far: (will leave out miniseries, since I have not yet managed to watch many in there). Also I never know who goes in what category and who is lead versus who is supporting or guest. So bear with me. Drama Series: Westworld; Stranger Things; The Americans; American Gods; The Crown; House of Cards Drama Lead Actor: Matthew Rhys; Ian McShane; Kevin Spacey; Dan Stevens (I'm not sure what category Legion is - going to assume drama for now); Jeffrey Wright Supporting Actor: Ed Harris; Anthony Hopkins; John Lithgow; Michael Kelly; David Harbour; Pablo Schrieber Guest Actor: Orlando Jones; Jemaine Clement; Paul Sparks Drama Lead Actress: Viola Davis; Robin Wright; Keri Russel; Winona Ryder; Evan Rachel Wood; Claire Foy Supporting Actress: Thandie Newton; Emily Browning; Neve Campbell; Rachel Keller; Vanessa Kirby Guest Actress: Gillian Anderson; Cloris Leachmam; Alison Wright; Patricia Clarkson; Margo Martindale Comedy Series: Veep; Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt; Crazy Ex-Girlfriend; Catastrophe; Master of None Lead Actor: Aziz Ansari; Vincent Rodriguez; Rob Delaney Supporting Actor: Tituss Burgess; Pete Gardner; Santino Fontana;Tony Hale Guest Actor: Alec Baldwin (my frustration if he is classed as guest knows no bounds) Lead Actress: Rachel Bloom; Julie Louis Dreyfus; Ellie Kemper; Sharon Hogan;Lily Tomlin Supporting Actress; Donna Lynne Champlin; Jane Krakowski; Kate McKinnon; Anna Chlumskey Guest Actress; Carrie Fisher (she's in Catastrophe. Hilarious, and apparently a lot of it was improvised); Melissa McCarthy Probably left out a lot of shows and of course there are some Emmy darlings like Modern Family and Transparent which i dont like that will likely get nominations. Then of course are things like Ray Donnovan, Bloodline and This Is Us which i havent watched and could probably take several noms. I think my comedy choices are unlikely to be accurate but still.

Jessica Lange will be nominated for Feud. I'd be shocked if she didn't.

stoneheartsrevenge, I'll leave out my comedy choices...other then the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, I don't get to watch too many comedies. I think your drama choices are all solid! Some of the shows I have not watched (like Legion)...but I can see those candidates being good choices. Drama Series: I'll add This Is Us has a chance and if Handmaid's Tale is getting a second season, it will have a chance. Best Actress (Drama): I'll add Elizabeth Moss, she might have a chance for a nod. Supporting Actress: Possibly could add Mandy Moore and Chrissy Metz from This Is Us here too, but it's such a strong category, if the two of them don't get nominated, I wouldn't be upset. Also, Alfre Woodward might have a chance from Luke Cage. Best Actor: Could add Sterling K Brown here (This Is Us) Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali (Luke Cage) might also make an appearance here. Guest Actor: Perhaps Ron Cephas Jones (This Is Us) will show up here Guest Actress: Nothing to add...all great choices! The category to watch will be best actress in a miniseries: Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon will be nominated for Feud. Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman for Big Little Lies, Oprah for The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. My top two choices would be Lange and Kidman, and giving Lange a slight edge.

Oh, awesome! Showtime are running Penny Dreadful in their FYC. I didnt think they would be trying for it. Its a long shot but Eva Green sooo deserves the recognition. Pick any of the other cast too, they were all great, but i would have to stick with the females - Patti LuPone, Eva Green and Billie Piper. They have some great actors and actresses in Guest Roles that would be eligible and easier to sneak in too so we'll see. Would like to withdraw my vote for House of Cards in drama series. The writing isnt anywhere near as strong as other potential nominees, much as i enjoy the series. Would leave Spacey and Wright in their acting categories though. Several actors in Sneaky Pete could find their way into the noms somewhere too. Margo Martindale is an Emmy veteran and puts in a great performance. Giovani Ribsi is great too. Brian Cranston hams it up wonderfully. Argh, choices choices! There's almost no emmy slate i could be dosappointed with this year given the great tv season but knowing emmy voters they will still manage to disappoint

Black Mirror was also submitted for nominations in limited series. Never thought about that, but would be happy if it got some love, either in acti noms or as the series overall. Not sure why it never occurred to me that it was eligible
