Get Out is not a comedy. It's almost insulting to label it that way.

I wouldn't call Get Out a comedy either, but it definitely has a very deliberate humorous tone about it. Especially the comic relief scenes with the main character's friend, which become increasingly more hysterical as it goes on. The entire premise of the movie borders on absurdity.
In my opinion Get Out is pure satire with some horror elements thrown in, so I don't really have a problem with this nomination.

Pretty sure the creators have a strong input in what category it’s nominted under anyway. And wasn’t it marketed as a comedy/satirical horror when it wasn’t released in any case?

I find it really weird that, as a member of a board founded to talk about Game of Thrones, I want Stranger Things to beat it so badly. I'll go even further: I'll actually be pretty annoyed if GoT wins. (Although it'll probably be the Crown or some shit)woohoo, David Harbour bummer that Winona wasn't nominated though To be fair Winona did have a fairly reduced role from season 1. In fact Harbour is probably the only main cast member who has a large role in both seasons. He really deserves to win. Get Out is not a comedy. It's almost insulting to label it that way. Didn't the Globes say "The Martian" was a comedy too? I think they really need more categories because right now it seems like they give anything that's not a drama the "Comedy/Musical" label

Sufjan Stevens should have been nominated for Best Original Song. Mystery of Love is a beautiful masterpiece that I can't get out of my mind.

I'll go even further: I'll actually be pretty annoyed if GoT wins. Nothing I've watched this year has made me as happy as Stranger Things Season 2 has, so I really want it to win, too. As for Game of Thrones ... honestly, Season 7 wasn't doing it for me at all. A show with such incredibly high production value will always be above average, so I totally get why it is nominated, but the writing I thought was lackluster for the most part. This season actively ruined certain characters for me that I used to really like, so there is that. If anything Game of Thrones deserved to be nominated, it's Lena Headey as Best Actress.

I think they really need more categories because right now it seems like they give anything that's not a drama the "Comedy/Musical" label Considering what the themes of Get Out are, it's extremely tone-deaf and dismissive to the African American community to label this movie as a comedy. It's like they completely missed the point and carelessly threw it in the comedy category because of Jordan Peele's previous work. Peele had this to say about its initial submission:

"What the movie is about is not funny." I think it's totally possible to make a comedy about serious issues that aren't funny at all.
I don't know. As I said, to me, Get Out is satire. It has a serious issue as its central theme, but it still deliberately delves into comedy territory, and often times uses humour and exaggeration to convey its message.
And I totally get that labeling it as a pure comedy may potentially lessen the impact of its themes, but I mean, the movie itself never takes itself or its characters too seriously. When I watched it ... I thought it was genuinely funny, and yet thought provoking.

Dr. Strangelove and The Great Dictator are examples of comedies about serious subject matters, but I didn't really find Get Out to be funny at all. Its tone, structure, and thematic elements are all pointing towards the dark spectrum. I think Jordan Peele's background and the casting of a couple of comedians made people expect a comedy, but I would definitely categorize it as a horror film, or at least a thriller.
There might have been some absurdist moments, but I found Get Out to be closer to a David Lynch movie than anything else in the Golden Globes comedy category. A movie like Scream has a lot of funny moments and clever lines, but it is a horror movie at its core. Despite its satirical elements, the main intent is to scare the audience. I think the same can be said for Get Out, it's full of symbolism, but the intent was for the audience to sympathize with the protagonist and feel suspense when he was in danger.

Frankly, GoT should be thankful it was even nominated. Season 7 was lackluster. Yes, the production values were great, but that can't cover for nonsense writing. The sad thing is, they submitted Lena as supporting for the GG and submitted Kit and Emilia for leading actor and actress (wtf?). The other shows in the category had better seasons then GoT. I have not seen season 2 of the Crown yet though. Didn't the Globes say "The Martian" was a comedy too? Peele had this to say about its initial submission: Who is responsible for choosing to place Get Out as a comedy? Was that the GG decision? Or the studio? I was really hoping to see Noah Schaap (Will) nominated. Happy for David Barbour though.

I believe the movie studio decides which categories to submit for. I assume Universal thought Get Out would have a better chance getting a nomination in the Comedy category, and I get the impression from interviews that Jordan Peele wasn't happy about that.

SAG nominees out. Much of the same stuff as CC and GG as far as I noticed. Big Little lies absolutely dominating the actress category for limited series or TV movie day dreamer the film choices, which I admittedly only scanned, looks like it lines up more or less with your taste

stoneheartsrevenge My favorite thing about the SAGs is that they left out Armie Hammer. I haven't seen Call Me By Your Name yet, I really want to. But I'm having a really hard time believing he turned in an awards worthy performance. Especially when I see people like Rob Morgan getting snubbed for Mud Bound. I love that Woody Harrelson was nominated with Sam Rockwell though. They were both awesome in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. And I'm always here for Get out and my girl Saoirse .

This may be the first time I don’t find any of the winners to be a travesty! Most of the winners were either shows I couldn't watch (The Handmaid's Tale, I don't have Hulu) or didn't seem interested in (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, just don't care for Amy Sherman Palladino shows). Glad to see the love for Big Little Lies (though a season 2 is not needed) and Sterling K Brown. Movie wise: Didn't see a single one of them, besides Coco (which deserved to win). After work, I have to find the reaction shot of Hugh Jackman losing to James Franco. He looked surprised.

SAG awards happened: This Is Us won as best ensemble and Sterling K Brown won as best actor. SKB said either at the SAG's or GG's basically it's cool they won because they are not like, a dark show that kills people every episode. Me at SKB:
