The show is totally going beyond 7 seasons now. I don't believe anything that D&D have to say on that matter. There will be an 8th season, but they'll probably call it 7.1 and 7.2, because that's a trend nowadays and fits better with the 7 kingdoms/7 gods/7 books/7 seasons thing.
EDIT: Oh, and I think some kind of spinoff/prequel/whatever is practically guaranteed. HBO is sitting on a gold mine here.

They really finished out strong. 508 and 509 over 7 million and then 510 did their best rating ever.

Show's here to stay, folks! No amount of shitty opportunistic, phony outrage, hack articles from the social-justice-through-social-media crowd will fucking change that.

Nah, is not a trend, that was just AMC's excuse to cut one season in two when they realized two of their three big shows (Mad Men and Breaking Bad) were going to end while they still hadn't found a replacement. Agree on the rest, an eighth season seems possible, or a longer season 7, and then maybe a miniseries of Robert's Rebellion

The audience may be watching but I have never seen more vitriol against the show than directed at that finale. I haven't had the time to read a lot about it - nor do the show presently interests me enough to do so - but according to the news sites I visit people are pissed off. Not that I had to look far because the comments under my recap are absolutely seething.

It seemed to be pretty well-received from what I saw but, anyhow, I liked it whether it was or not.

I'm sure you could sell contact lenses to a blind man, but I'm just telling you what I read and what I see as a reviewer of the show for the past 3 years. None other episode was as badly received and I only had the time to glance at the comments, but they seem to have a lot of complaints in them.

I think there is a huge gap between die-hard-book fans and the general audience. The former are really, really pissed off and very vocal about it and the latter are still enjoying the show, maybe see some ups and downs, but are still overall satisfied just not very vocal about it. Also, I see two different kinds of reactions: there are the people who are angry at D&D and HBO: "how could they do that to character XY" and then there is a second group of people who are pissed at characters IN the story and say things like "how could character ZY do that to character XY?"
Just for the record: I'm not judging any of this, just making observations.

Read the bolded part. Not that I don't appreciate the underlying panic.

Just for the record: I'm not judging any of this, just making observations. Actually I'm seeing a lot 'done with this' comments from the people who have no clue what's in the books. Also there are people like my cousin did like the finale but said she won't watch because Jon is dead. I didn't bother guiding her towards 'hey don't you remember that people can come back?' idea because why the fuck shall I do show's job for them. But the thing that repulsed me today was as I was reading some article and it said people won't really miss or mourn Stannis because he burned his daughter. D&D took everything, everything from Stannis' fans.
