No news about piracy so far this week. Did it break a new record? Probably. I imagine fewer people watching TV on memorial day means more bootlegging later in the night. Seems weeks ago HBO put out a preliminary 'broad count' for episode one, but never followed up, also nothing about episode 2. Something they said they were going to do. I see where HBO is floating the idea of a Netflix type of pricing for access.

I see where HBO is floating the idea of a Netflix type of pricing for access. I could see HBO doing that. I don't think Netflix reports their ratings. I remember reading somewhere that not really knowing how many people are watching a Netflix show (say Orange is the New Black) would make contract negotiations difficult because agents could not cite ratings in efforts to get more money for actors on those shows. Agents would have to use other metrics to get their clients a pay raise. Who said that about episode 6? I think the only fair way to tell if that episode's events did impact ratings would be to see how episode 8 did. And maybe that won't even be the best judge.

"I agree, but the show promoters are going to claim it was the holliday that hurt the ratings when WE know it was the episode 6 abomination." Who said this? I don't agree with them anyway. Things like that usually cause a bump because the controversy raises the shows visibility (even more) and encourages people to watch. The "I am NEVER watching again!" Crowd Are usually cancelled out and then some by the new viewers.

I don't know, I was browsing through pages 26-43 of their rant thread whilst drinking my coffee at work today and they all seem convinced the power of Sansagate is responsible for the ratings I did laugh at, I think LeCygne, saying that the episode was from hell

Looking forward to the rating again. Even if 508 didn't have a big bounce back the reviews and word of mouth for it should see a rise for 509.

Yup, the fears of a lot of people after last week'd ratings were pretty unfounded imo. Things are looking up for the show as a whole

How did viewers know this episode would have a Zinger! in it? Do they know next week has another Zinger! too?

How did viewers know this episode would have a Zinger! in it? Do they know next week has another Zinger! too? They didn't know. It was just because this was a back-to-normal week, and not one of those where there are several things happening. The high ratings were simply a result of a few things: 1. No Memorial Day 2. Strong previous episode 3. No NBA Play-Offs

Definitely Memorial Day was probably the biggest factor in ratings for last week. I think the folks worried about the ratings for the show are worried about nothing. It's renewed for next season and as I have said before, D&D will have time to craft their ending.
And it's been well established now that episode 9 is usually when something big goes down (Ned, Blackwater, Red Wedding, Watchers on the Wall, and next week) so probably next week will be either at this week's level or higher.

Looking forward to this rating. Being the "Episode 9" and coming off of Hardhome.

Yeah the buzz about Hardhome should have put a square wave in the system. Wonder what HBO will get for the weekly , already a lot of media yak about Ep 9.
