I actually thought this one was decent. I wasn't bored at least.

I like it. I like the gritty east LA location and I like that they're merging very realistic reasons for it getting out of control (the protesters thinking the cops shot someone in cold blood) ... that's a sensitive issue in the US right now and they're brave to go there with the show - edgy. I also liked the artsy feel (music, surreal feeling, religious imagery) to the end of the episode with both parties separated and trying to wait it out ... not sure what to do but coming to the realization that this was now a survival situation.
It's starting out slow, but this was better than the first episode. I'll be watching.

The communication is weird.

The communication is weird. Yeah it seems like they're trying to draw out the denial thing with her just a bit too far. I will agree that was weird but I think I understand why. She's trying to cover it all up ... she's a school counselor and her professional job is to try and make things normal and happy ... meanwhile her own family is a mess and her kid is a junkie. She believes too much in the 'system' which is the case with many people here who either work for the government, hospitals, schools ... etc. The public face on this sort of pandemic situation always tries to keep it cool and deny everything. She's seen two walkers now and is still denying it and worse, refusing to tell her daughter which is stupid and could put them in further danger. She reminds me a little of Lori Grimes in that they're writing her as the "protective Mother" who just comes across looking stupid. She better get straight with her kids soon, both of them are old enough to understand, they're not little kids who need sheltered from the violence. Nick already knows but damn, that guy's going to be useless with withdrawal sickness.

I have had zero interest in this, but I decided to watch last night. I love the character of Nick, so I'll be watching. Seems the acting gene runs in the family. I'm a little annoyed that no one _ever_ says "they're fucking zombies!!" but I kind of like the way things are unfolding.

I did. I thought tonight's episode was really solid. Shot well, lots of suspense. Daniel was a boss. But why would you leave the door open!? And why is Travis such a bitch?!

I got to say knowing more than these characters (because of TWD) is really annoying. Tis the pains of being a prequel I suppose.

It kind of is, because I'm just like "Wahh can't Carol, Rick, and Glenn come take care of this?" lol I like it though. Seeing this time is interesting.

I follow the spoilers, and even though they're hard to get because of ASZ's walls, the whole playing with time thing this season could be a disaster. I hope it isn't.

Finally got time tonight to watch this episode! My week has been hell so far with work/evening hassle. But anyways, I really liked this third episode and felt it was a lot more suspenseful and what I expected from this show in nail-biter moments where they're trying to figure out wtf is wrong with these people and putting themselves squarely in jeopardy. My major complaint this week as day dreamer already pointed out, was how stupid Travis was behaving. He was the solid level headed one in the first two episodes and now it's like he and Madison suddenly traded places and she's suddenly ready to face the reality of the situation and nail her neighbor in the head to put her out of her misery. His attitude is inconsistent. I realize they're trying to show how confusing and uncertain it all is and that at this point so early in the apocalypse no one really knows yet if these victims are able to be helped or not - but Travis and Madison continually trying to shelter the three teenage kids from this reality is super annoying because even though yes we the viewers already know the truth ... how long can you expect to drag it out with these characters? Travis getting pissed at Daniel for showing his son how to load a gun also reminded me of Lori Grimes bullshittery from TWD. They do it on purpose to frustrate the viewer... I get it. But Travis wasn't the one I expected to be that weird about protectiveness. But anyways, each week has gotten stronger to the point I feel this show has a good chance now. I felt like it was just going to be an appetizer to TWD esp. since it's just before the new season anyways, but now I think it may be able to stand on it's own once they expand on the characters a bit and get through this initial stage setting period. So what do you guys think they'll do now? The army/natl guard or whatever they are showing up was unexpected. Are they locking everyone down and not allowing them to leave now? Leaving that huge mess of a city is the first step to survival. Will they defy the orders and try to run for it?

I think they'll be on lock down, and it will probably be about the military maybe abusing power, getting too trigger happy (They bombed Atlanta in TWD) Something like that. Nick will probably go through some serious withdrawals. I do wonder if that lady with the hurt ankle (name escaping me right now) may die of infection so they can see that they reanimate without being bitten.

They want to show what happened to make the military/govt go crazy and start mass killing is my guess. These guys that inspected their house/family clearly had no clue what was going on or how people get infected/turn etc. so there's going to be some sort of breakdown in communication is my guess and things get ugly. Abuse of power (out of fear) is a common theme for military/police in a situation where society is falling apart rapidly. Fits the title of the series. I imagine there's going to be some conflicts with the military and eventually that's going to dissolve at some point and they'll have to move on...

I think they'll head to the desert towards the end of the season. I hope they don't rush it, because the fall of society is the interesting part. Once that's gone, it's jut another TWD.

At first I was annoyed that it was looking like they were going to be trapped in LA because my TWD side was screaming "you gotta get away from the city ... too many zombies!" but then I realized if they did that, we'd miss seeing just how awful it would look like in a major city like LA with millions of people all crammed together like that! So you're right, they shouldn't rush the plot with them leaving too soon since we never got to see the fall of Atlanta or Washington DC or other cities in the original show's story. I really think I'm enjoying the show more for that, the different perspective, than I am the actors/characters who so far haven't won me over in rooting for them. Daniel emerged as a possible alpha who has his survival shit together this past episode but I have a feeling there's going to be some issues between he and Travis so who knows if the Salazars make it or not.
