If George died before finishing the series and someone else took it as his job to write the books, I wouldn't read them. I still think TWoW will come out next year, ADoS in 2020's if ever. I don't think I would either. Some of my friends who are big fantasy readers read The Wheel of Time books, which I guess were finished by someone else with the writer's permission...his son? And they were disappointed. I know it's kind of gross to talk about, so I'll just hope he has lots and lots of years left. |

Yeah I want GRRM to finish, but I definitely want more stories from this universe (books/shows) and ultimately it's not going to be GRRM that makes them all anyway. |

He posted a new TWOW sample chapter (Arianne II) along with a Wild Cards one: I don't know if the part about the Dorne characters is a jab to the show for how they have handled Dorne. If it is, I don't blame him. Otherwise, no, the book is not done, so don't ask about it, but someday it will be. Same as always. |

Yeah, he had Brandon Sanderson complete his series for him, with the help of Jordan's wife since she had all his notes and much of the needed knowledge.
The books were not the same, but in all honestly everyone writes differently and Sanderson did a good job. Finishing a series like that is not easy, and there is no way to make millions of readers all happy.
Still, Brandon is a great storyteller and world builder, but he's not as great of a writer as George. Patrick Rothfuss is a talented writer, and takes JUST AS LONG as George, but he's more flowery and poetic, which doesn't fit the world of Westeros.
In short: I wouldn't want anyone else to finish the series for George. Wouldn't be the same by a long shot.

Recently it was rumoured that GRRM met with his editors at New York. Now he's back at home and says in his blog that "there's lots to report on". I want to believe...
...but it probably has nothing to do with TWoW.

I want to believe... ...but it probably has nothing to do with TWoW. As an author he would need to have semi-regular meetings with his editors though. It could be anything, from turning in some more finished chapters, to discussing how complete the book is/potential release dates, organising payments for completed work, discussing artwork, and so on. Not trying to slay the hype or anything, I do think he is probably closer to finished than not at this point, but I'm still sceptical of a 2016 release at this stage. I might be pleasantly surprised though, that would be nice. Oh, just looked at the actual post now too. First one since May 24th so "lots to report on" will probably include some stuff about BaltiCon (where he read Aeron and did a special dinner thing or something). |
