I'm struggling to find any way to justify the scene but it was just terrible. It also shouldn't have taken place right before Daznak which, to me, sucked the life out of the rest of the episode because I didn't have time to come to terms with that yet. It's one of the reasons why I thought Sansa/Ramsay/Theon had to come at the end of 5.06.

I'm pretty sure it happens when Stannis returns to Winterfell. Or, if he doesn't, Melisandre will do it on her own to help Stannis succeed. But I have a feeling it will involve Stannis to show how far he'll go to get the Throne.

I had a hard time with it, too. She is just the best little princess, and Stannis didn't even have the balls to tell her what they were going to do. I don't know how that would have gone down - but I don't think anything could be worse than her screaming for her father, for her mother, and seeing them just stand there letting Mel set her on fire.

I did think they handled it in a similar way to the Sansa rape scene, i.e., didn't spend too much time on it, didn't make us watch her go up in flames.

Not to change the subject, but I also had a very hard time seeing the horse who was on fire - and the camera stayed on that for a long time.

Burning Shireen isn't going to give then food or warmth or more men. And the finale will probably end in a cliffhanger anyway. It's stupid.
