Yeah, I'm trying really hard to hate him, but I can't. Now D&D, well it's pretty easy to hate them  Shireen will probably be burned in the books too, but it will probably done by Mel to resurrect Jon, and that would be a much different situation and wouldn't necessarily ruin Stannis' character. We'll see eventually. |

I'm not sure how burning Shireen moves the plot along, unlike Baelor, the Red Wedding, the Oberyn fight... I guess Davos won't side with Stannis now, but otherwise it comes off as just... awful to horrify the audience. I'm pretty sure it happens when Stannis returns to Winterfell. Or, if he doesn't, Melisandre will do it on her own to help Stannis succeed. But I have a feeling it will involve Stannis to show how far he'll go to get the Throne. Stannis was pretty gutless sending away Davos and not being closer to the action to watch his daughter burn. |

It was well done. Horrible, terrible to watch, but well done.
To me, it's another "Red Wedding" moment. I knew it was coming, I didn't want to watch it, but I watched it and they did an amazing job with it.
It's going to be integral to Stannis' story arc...he's clearly paved the road for his own downfall, and when it comes, he will know that it was by his own hand.

Unsullied friend hated it. They don't understand why he would burn his only heir. What's the point of getting the Throne with no heir? Good question.

But they're too far apart in the books. He's made it all the way to Winterfell. I think it happens without his knowledge. |

It was terrible,but not as terrible as I'd built it up in my head. I'll still watch the show and Mel and Stannis will still be my favorites (I've never claimed either as shining beacons of morality). However, I think judging by how broken Stannis looked and some of what was in the Inside the Episode, Stannis dies next week. I just don't see any other way for his character forward.

Okay, I don't cry during TV shows. I cry in movies all the time, but I have cried twice watching TV. (Once during Rescue Me, and I got teary over Selmy) I fucking BAWLED during this scene. It was awful. My husband had snobby book face, and I was crying. I suppose the scene itself was well done, but I hated it. I hate that she died, I hate what they made Stannis do, I hate how Selyse of all fucking people tried to help. I hate how the preview made it seem like "Oh nice weather. Thanks Shireen!"  |

I never usually look away watching TV cowering behind my hands, but goddamn did i do that today. One of the hardest things I've ever had to freaking watch.

Hey, Stannis fans! Don't be upset!. This development makes it very unlikely he will meet his end any time soon. We will get to see his dramatic downfall play out slowly and hideously until only a shell of a man remains, with no family and no power, and no destiny.

That was the most horrible thing I've ever seen on TV. First time I considered dropping the show, and I mean it. I could take Sansa's rape, Oberyn's head exploding and the RW. But Shireen's screams, ugh. Now I am actually rooting for the Boltons. And I used to be Team Stannis.
