Ah. Ray's alive. 0:39 of this trailer has him in a scene we have yet to see so far.
Wonder how they'll explain this one. Kevlar probably.

Bean bag shells probably, doubt Kevlar could stop a point blank shotgun blast

I'm just doing a rewatch after reading AV Club and Hitfix's reviews and I'm surprised that they don't think Vince Vaughn did a good job with that monologue at the beginning. I thought it was pretty damn good. Also Kelly Reilly's reaction shots in the scene were brilliant.

Of course the best performance of the episode was Ritchie Coster as the drunk mayor.

May sound odd, but...soundtrack and music suck. Like...really suck.
I am sufficiently intrigued by the rest. The interpersonals are a bit clunky, but the plot is deliciously fucked up.

McAdams & Farrell scenes together were the highlight. Will be interesting to see how he survived.

It sure was. If Rust Cohle can survive his wound at the end of season 1...I am guessing Det. Ray will too. Or hoping. How about Rick Springfield, of General Hospital and Jesse's Girl fame, popping up in this show? As that creepy psychiatrist guy, right? Yup, that is him. My husband is probably thanking the Gods today that he was not sitting next to me last night because I would have punched his arm so many times going, "THAT'S RICK SPRINGFIELD!!!!" To whoever the opening theme is not good, I agree.

I meant his performance btw, not the writing necessarily.

The episode tonight started really slow, but it got so good towards the end. I'm so glad they didn't show all that teeth pulling though. Yeesh

"What kind of way is that to greet the world"? That was like, the most polite thing you can say before you completely fuck someone up.

The jab at Fukunaga was amateur hour. Really disappointed with that.

BTW I'm still annoyed that Frank didn't fuck his wife at the end of the episode. I've always found Kelly Reilly attractive but she's better than she's ever looked in this role...and she was up for it, Frank! Ah well. You can't always get what you want...still, it irks me.

The Asian American director in Vinci that was portrayed as a degenerate was a pot shot at Fukunagi. "As to the interlude on the fictional movie set: I’m not a real big fan of airing behind the scenes dirty laundry within the world of a show. It was bad – and weird – enough when Two and a Half Men did it in their series finale. My two cents is that kind of thing absolutely doesn’t belong on True Detective nor on HBO. It throws the viewer directly out of the imagined world and into the realm of the Hollywood gossip mill. What did you make of it?" ign.com/articles/2015/07/06/true-detective-maybe-tomorrow-review

And I think with Harrelson and McConaughey also involved as EPs they're not likely to rip on s1's director like that.
