You know what REALLY took me out of the movie and I’m surprised the whiners haven’t complained about? ”Godspeed, Rebels.”
I know there’s been mention of gods before but it just felt too earth-y and pulled me out of the moment.

I lowkey hate the internet right now. I love this movie so much, but people are so vicious towards it, it's really frustrating. I honestly think it's mob mentality more than anything. I've read so many "arguments" as to why the Leia scene is bad. People are like, the Force doesn't work like that. Except, it totally does. Pulling things with your mind is a basic force ability, and Force bubbles have existed in Star Wars lore for forever. There is even a Wookieepedia article on them. Leia wasn't trained, but she was incredibly strong in the Force, and it's totally within the realm of possibility that in dire circumstances such as these, she would be able to instincitvly save herself by using her vast Force potential. Maybe she taught herself how to perceive the Force and how to use it, in the decades that lie between Return of the Jedi and The Last Jedi. Just because she doesn't wear Jedi robes and a lightsaber, doesn't mean that her connection to the Force is less strong or less valid than Luke's.
And as a wise Jedi Master once said, "Nothing is impossible with the Force."
I also passionately hate the term "Leia Poppins". People are like, lol, it looks so silly, Jedi can't fly! But she's literally not flying. You can't fly in space. Leia is not soaring through the air like a fucking bird, she's merely pulling herself towards the ship by using the Force. Perhaps it looks a bit strange, but guess what, that's because it's zero gravity.
I'm not even sure why, but this got me so disappointed in humanity as a concept.
I guess I should take solace in the fact that that scene isn't going anywhere, it will always remain a part of this movie, it will always be there to bring me joy. What I wanted the most from this movie was one amazing Leia scene, some kind of tribute to Carrie Fisher. For me, this scene was exactly that, and I will always love the movie because of it. And if haters gonna hate, so be it. And I genuinely apologize if I come off as a bit too harsh. Really. I get so worked up over this, it's kind of crazy. It's just that, that character means so much to me.

The term I've taken a hating to is "strawman argument". Incoming rant Frankly I really dislike the way some SW fans treat this particular movie so differently from the others. There's a double standard that is pretty hilarious. If you accuse certain fans of disliking the movie because it didn't go the way they expected, you'll get a very defensive rebuttal somewhere along the lines of "Stop using such a strawman argument! I hated it because of the numerous plot holes, unnecessary subplots that lead nowhere, stupid decisions and disrespecting what came before!" The thing is, there's some of those in every movie that came before. Plot holes? How about the fucking hole in the death star which had to be explained by a movie released 39 years later? Subplots that lead nowhere? (We all know which one this is referencing) What about the several different rescue plans in RotJ which could have easily been condensed? That was unnecessary. Or the crew hiding from the Empire in an asteroid only to be chased again and eventually captured? That one didn't advance the plot, but it developed the characters (in a better way than TLJ, but that's beside the point since that was the intention of TLJ). Aside from the fact that the stupid decisions were intentionally so in order to show that everyone makes mistakes, I can give one example that could have ended the saga 10 minutes in. There's plenty more, that was just the first I thought of. As for disrespecting what came before.. jeez I don't even know where to begin, maybe it's because I don't really understand the point? How is not making a character some kind of Force-god disrespectful? If it's to do with not having Luke in the movies anymore (ahem, Force ghosts) guess what - he hasn't had a non-cameo role in a movie since 1983! Between then and TLJ he had about 2 minutes of screentime max. Star Wars didn't "die" because Luke wasn't in those movies - it faltered certainly, but the reason wasn't because Luke wasn't in the movies, it was for many other reasons. TFA and Rogue One aren't perfect movies by any means, but they both had a period shortly after release which lasted anywhere between a week and a month. TLJ has not had that. The backlash was immediate. So, I really don't see what the difference is between TFA/R1 and TLJ other than things not going the way people expected, and there's 2 years of Snoke/Rey theories to prove that people wanted this to go a certain way. I don't have a problem if people didn't like it. I do have a problem if they get super defensive and give some bullshit excuse with zero substance and act like TLJ has committed some sacrilege that the other movies have not. /rant

Also once again Mark Hamill's quotes are being taken out of context and I'm seeing a shit load of videos about how much he hates the new Star Wars movies. Not even being fucking subtle. The clips are so messily edited that it's infuriating how haters of the movies are lapping it up for the sake of confirmation bias. Fucking dickheads.

^lmaoooooooooooo
One argument I'm currently hating is "no character development happened!" Are you kidding? The four mains all have significant development. But I suppose it's not the development in your headcanon so it was wrong."

Yeah a lot of people are confusing “no development” and “nothing happens” with “not developed how I expected/wanted” and “not what I thought would happen”

"Rey and Kylo are in the same places they were at the beginning of the movie"
Actually, they aren't. Neither are Poe and Finn for that matter.

he looks like an anime character I spontaneously decided to go see the movie again tonight, it was only Daniel and me this time. And surprise, surprise, I still loved it. Didn't cry quite as much tonight as I did the first time though, except during that one scene towards the end of course. Also, there was a young father with his son sitting right next to me in the theatre, and the dad got noticably choked up during several parts of the movie. He also read aloud the opening crawl to his son, which I thought was super cute.

You know what REALLY took me out of the movie and I’m surprised the whiners haven’t complained about? ”Godspeed, Rebels.”
I know there’s been mention of gods before but it just felt too earth-y and pulled me out of the moment. That was one of the things Mr. Kingeomer and I complained about, it felt out of place in the movie. I don't know what I thought of this movie. I was down with it's overall message (which is I think is TOTALLY LOST in the internet back and forth about this film, I guess I'll put it all in spoilers) but I felt like this film could have used a better editor and shaved off 25 minutes. Thoughts under spoilers What I liked/loved The lesson that failure is the best teacher. We see Poe learn that, along with patience and that sometimes TPTB have a good reason for their decisions. I am guessing Poe will be our resistance leader in Episode 9, so I think we will see Leia live on in him and he'll be less impulsive and reactive and more of a chess player. The lesson that a special birthright does not make you special, it's what you CHOOSE to do. Everyone has a choice. Ben Solo turned to the dark side because he chose to. He probably had already done so before Luke thought about killing him. Rey's parents are irrelevant because anyone can have the force sensitivity, it's what she chooses to do with her abilities that will make her special. Finn going from being the guy who runs away to being the guy quite willing to die for the resistance and earning his admiration from Rose. The fight with Kylo Ren and Rey in Snoke's throne room was bad ass. Luke's force projection versus Kylo Ren. Using the Porgs and Crystal Foxes right. Chewbacca. Making BB-8 a big damn hero. Admiral Holdo's sacrifice. Yoda The boy at the end showing his force sensitivity, his resistance ring from Rose, and just the scene of him looking at the sky. Cool way to end the movie. Luke and Leia's scene together. Mark Hamill giving one hell of a performance.
What I didn't like: The Canto Bright sequence was too long Phasma and Snoke seemed to go nowhere. I would have loved to know where Snoke came from and how did the First Order get in control. What the hell happened? I really wish Kylo Ren and Leia shared the screen together. I am guessing that might have been an Episode 9 event had Carrie Fisher not died. Admiral Holdo's god speed. While I like the idea of a Finn/Rose romance, I would have liked to see it develop more in Episode 9. I think the line of "the world is a better place with you in it, Finn." would be better then "I love you." Some of the jokes fell flat. I felt like Rey was missing in a lot of the second half. My son actually said, I thought she died. I hate the fact Leia spent a good portion of the movie in a coma. While I get Leia used the force to save herself, I think the special effects made the scene look cheesy. I think the effects should have been better for a moment that big-reminding people that Leia also is force sensitive and quite good at it.
I probably won't get to see this again in the movie theater but I would watch again when it's available on streaming/DVD. It was no Empire Strikes Back but I think the internet hate for it is too much. It's not the worst SW movie for me, it has parts that worked for me and parts that didn't.
My tentative SW film ranking: 1. Empire 2. A New Hope 3. Revenge of the Sith 4. Rogue One 5.The Last Jedi 6. Return of the Jedi 7. The Force Awakens 8. Phantom Menance 9. Attack of the Clones

Leia in episode 9 is such a question mark. I really, really wanted a scene of her and Kylo together in it. I don't see how they're going to get around not using CGI for her at all.

I just think there will be a time jump of somewhere between 3-5 years and she'll have died of old age, but her actions and status of a figure of hope in the galaxy will be an important theme. They need time to establish Kylo as Supreme Leader and develop Rey's powers further, plus the First Order and Resistance both need time to rebuild.
