The mix up is pretty funny IMO. You know Dunaway went backstage and punched a hole through some interns chest. Moonlights victory might be a little bittersweet for them, but it's still a victory so I don't think they're that upset about it.

so much cringe ... I'm glad I went to bed and didn't watch this live someone should have intervened the moment she read the wrong thing, instead of letting the La La Land guys go through with their speeches There are probably only a couple of people in the entire building who know the winners beforehand. During the speeches, you can see a guy with a headset checking the envelope on stage. They probably had to make sure that was indeed the wrong envelope and that there wasn't some kind of mistake with two different Best Picture winner envelopes. Emma Stone threw people under the bus backstage. This will be the year that the Oscars are remembered for a fuck up. But hey, maybe ratings will be better next year.

They should've cut their mics. I would have. The director probably had no idea there was something wrong until the La La Land producer said Moonlight won. Remember that the directors and producers of the show work for ABC, not the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, so there's no way they knew who the winner was supposed to be. Bringing mics down would just make the production team look incompetent, and people would be talking about technical errors with microphones this morning. As far as anybody in the control room knows, La La Land is the winner, the band is playing their music, people are giving speeches. That's the downside of so much secrecy and mystery surrounding the winners. This mistake reflects more poorly on the Academy and PricewaterhouseCoopers than ABC or their production team. The latter really only cares about ratings, and a big event like this could actually help generate interest. Anyway, at least we'll get some awesome memes out of this.

Looking ahead to the Emmys (a long way off, I know) what are the cut off dates for nominations to have aired in? End of May? I only ask because there are a few usual suspects that have later air dates this year (Thrones, Orphan Black, House of Cards) which could make for a slightly different Emmys than usual this year. Not sure if HoC will just scrape by for eligibility this year, I think it might, I guess Westworld is eligible for 2017 Emmys but I think it will be interesting to see the nominees this year.

Omg it's such a stupid mistake. He obviously knows something is wrong, it doesn't take a genius to speak up and say "um, wrong envelope."

I think he was trying to be like graceful about it, and was waiting for someone to come out and fix it. He could have been more proactive in trying to fix it, but I don't think it's his fault.

I wasn't sure what date in May was the cut off though, for the likes of HoC i actually think thrones is more likely to air in july. OB will air in june though, the fans were pissed that tatiana can't get nominated for these emmy's especially since its the last season

OB will air in june though, the fans were pissed that tatiana can't get nominated for these emmy's especially since its the last season Why did I say June for Thrones? I knew there was no confirmed date yet. I blame Warren Beatty. Anyway, thinking on, that removes Maslany from lead actress (I know she wasn't guaranteed a spot but...c'mon, the woman's insanely talented) and at least one spot in supporting actor/actress, as well as guest from Thrones. Will be curious to see what takes their places. Hopefully Thandie Newton and/or Evan Rachel-Wood will be up (will be interested to see which category they are shoved into - the other awards didn't seem too certain who was lead or supporting). Eva Green for Penny Dreadful yes sir please sir make it happen sir. Is Outlander Season 2 eligible? Or was that eligible in the 2016 Emmys? Keri Russel will no doubt be up again in lead. Most likely Viola Davis too. I can think of a few award worthy performances. But I'm not sure realistically what their chances of an Emmy nomination are (for various reasons - aired in June last year, so are mostly forgotten, aired on networks that aren't the usual nominees).

The latter really only cares about ratings, and a big event like this could actually help generate interest. Anyway, at least we'll get some awesome memes out of this. Supposedly there are two people from Price Waterhouse Cooper that know who the winners were beforehand. They come to the oscars with the envelopes locked in a bag and they also are supposed to have the winners memorized in case of a mix up as well. Beatty said he saw the card read Emma Stone La La Land and didn't know what to do and Dunaway thought he was ad libbing, looked at the card and saw La La Land and assumed it won...whoever stuffed the envelopes messed up. Price Waterhouse apologized to all parties involved. Nice quote by Mahershala Ali on the mix-up and win: link He is a total class act. i actually think thrones is more likely to air in july. OB will air in june though, the fans were pissed that tatiana can't get nominated for these emmy's especially since its the last season Why did I say June for Thrones? Most likely Viola Davis too. I can think of a few award worthy performances. But I'm not sure realistically what their chances of an Emmy nomination are (for various reasons - aired in June last year, so are mostly forgotten, aired on networks that aren't the usual nominees). Usually the Emmy deadline is May 30th. Thrones, Orphan Black and Outlander will not be eligible this year. Some things that I ponder now that those shows are not in the running. Considering that Maslany, who won last year, would probably be a strong contender for a nod this year (no one does what she does on TV to be honest), won't be eligible. Caitronia Balfe who is always in the mix for a nod but has never been nominated yet is not eligible, I think leaves the best actress race wide open. Outlander season 2 was eligible for 2016 Emmys, I believe. Assuming the Big Little Lies is going under miniseries, so omitting those ladies...I see definite nominee Claire Foy for The Crown, Viola Davis for How to Get Away with Murder. Potential nominees: Kerry Washington for Scandal, Evan Rachel Wood for Westworld, Thandie Newton (who also might go in supporting for WW), Christine Baranski for The Good Fight and Keri Russell for the Americans. If the Handmaiden's Tale debuts on Hulu before May 30, expect Elisabeth Moss to be here too. Supporting actress: Thrones not being eligible leaves this one wide open-Lena Headley and Emilia Clarke are not eligible. Expect to see Mandy Moore and Chrissy Metz from This Is Us, possibly Samira Wiley from The Handmaiden's Tale (and maybe OITNB if it's up in drama again), Viola Davis could score a nod for Luke Cage, I can't think of the actresses name right now, possibly the actress who played Princess Margaret in The Crown, if Thandie is not put up in lead, she'll be here. Best Actor-this one is really tricky because both WW and This Is Us have a problem--they either submit all their male leads as supporting and run the risk of them cancelling each other out and I would say John Lithgow is going to win for The Crown any way...or be smart and split them up to give some a better shot at winning Best Actor.. My list: Sterling K Brown for This Is Us (he has enough screen time to qualify and he's excellent, could really win this one as opposed to going under supporting and losing to Lithgow), Anthony Hopkins for WW, Bob Odenkirk most likely, Matthew Rhys for the Americans, if House of Cards debuts in time Kevin Spacey. Longshot for a nomination: Mike Colter, Luke Cage Supporting Actor: John Lithgow (who will win) for the Crown, Ron Cephas Jones for This Is Us, Milo Ventrimigilia for This Is Us, Jonathan Banks (Better Call Saul), Mahershala Ali for Luke Cage (it's possible they might submit him for guest given he's in half the season), Jeffrey Wright for WW, Ed Harris WW Longshot for nod: Justin Hartley, This Is Us (only because the plots for his character are pretty rushed) Best Drama: The Crown, Westworld, This Is Us, The Americans That's my drama selections so far...I am sure I am forgetting a crap ton of shows that probably are debuting within the next couple of months.
