Joanna Robinson is a LSH fan. She was shocked that Stoneheart didn't appear in 4x10 finale. She's just responding the same way that other LSH fans are to the title. You can't take every reference to motherhood as a reference to LSH. There are lots of important mothers this season: Cersei, Olenna, Dany, and even Selyse and Ellaria. Cersei is appealing for Mother's Mercy, Olenna has been appealing for mercy for her grandchildren all season, Dany and Selyse are turning away from mercy to fire and blood, and Ellaria or might get to give (or hear from Doran) her awesome book speech about mercy for the sake of the children. And Arya's murders are referred to by the shorthand of "mercy". Mother's Mercy doesn't even make much sense as a reference to LSH. Catelyn Stark was a mother, but LSH isn't one. LSH is focusing on killing Freys rather than tracking down Arya and Sansa. And LSH isn't merciful. I agree that the creators probably did know / should have known that people would think of LSH with that title. But the Walk of Shame is a huge moment that it sounds like they really cared about getting right. They've been talking about it from really early on, saying that Cersei was always portrayed fully clothed so that the Walk of Shame would have maximum impact. It sounded like a huge deal to film it with the huge crowd. I don't blame them for wanting the episode title to refer to that set piece. And most Cersei-related titles could be easily misconstrued as LSH-related titles.

Kings landing was very good this time, I liked pretty much all the scenes though I’m not that impressed with Tommen. Jonathan Pryce is great, in the books I didn’t even pay much attention to the high sparrow. I still don’t like how they potray the faith militant in general though. I wish they would be concerned about the urgent social problems in the city instead of persecuting homosexuals and pushing down beer barrels. I also completely agreed with Olenna when she pointed out there are much worse crimes going unpunished. Anyway lots of good performances in KL. Along with Pryce, I think Headey and Dormer did very well. In the Faith Militant's defense, a lot of the social problems in Kings Landing probably do relate to alcohol - alcohol does increase the likelihood of an individual partaking in violence, vandalism, theft, gambling, extra-marital sex, and other anti-social behaviors. And money spent on alcohol isn't being spent on education, medicine, food, better housing, ect. Further, alcoholism in the monarchy and on the Small Council is one of the reasons that the city is governed so poorly. And they are running soup kitchens. I agree that the Faith Militant's policies are problematic. But they're probably broadly correct in targeting corrupt leaders and alcohol as some of the biggest social problems.

I have more in just a moment. I'm eager to see this scene. Tyrion can't keep his mouth shut for more than 30 seconds, and Dany isn't used to sarcastic alcoholics or Westerosi lords. At their best, they could be an amazing partnership, but they have to develop trust and respect first and that will be a delicate thing. Also looking forward to Sansa / Pod interaction. I imagine that Sansa will be dismayed that her rescuers are just the hapless Brienne and Pod, but I think it will be touching for both of them when they reconnect.

Because the Manderly were arguably the highlight of the entire ADWD. Nobody who read that book can possibly think to themselves, yeah don't need to see them, let's see more of the Tarly clan. As for the argument that they are replaceable. Yes they are, but they haven't been replaced. You're missing the point lol. Manderly may have been awesome, but as someone else put it, he can just be lifted out. We don't have a fucking clue the kind of part Randyl Tarly will play so I think it's stupid to complain about his inclusion over someone like Manderly when, for all we know, he could be huge. And even if he isn't, he's Samwell's father and they have some unfinished business. Yeah. And Manderly probably doesn't have much future. His stand against the Boltons seems to be a suicide mission, even before you consider the oncoming White Walkers and the fact that an aging sick man doesn't have a great chance against any serious Northern winter. Manderly was awesome in the books. But he's seems to be about done. The show writers have more information than we do about which characters are going to be important in book 6. I've been wondering why the show keeps including Volantis. That does make a lot of sense as the next Dany location. I'm really curious to see what she'll be like post Mereen and what the lessons she's been learning will amount to.

The books do seem to foreshadow something awful happening with Shireen and Patchface up north.

Sexy hip girl could be in Mereen. Tyrion probably will beeline for a brothel as soon as humanly possible. And if we go into Hizdahr's bedroom in the finale, there could be a cute girl there.

That would be tragic ! I was thinking, if the Meereen arc extends into season 6, he may be that season's casuality in the hands of the SotH. I expected this plot to be over this season, but since it appears Dany will reunite with the dothrakis, maybe Tyrion and Jorah will be left dealing with the SotH. They have been set up as a huge threar, and showed up in only 2 episodes. I wouldn't be surprised if they lasted until mid-season 6 or something (when Dany returns to Meereen?)
Even tho I don't know what George is going to do with the Unsullied , if they go with Dany, do they really want to make a new casting of a Unsull leader at this point? Not clear Jorah is gonna make it and doesn't seem they would take Darrio on as their new 'general'. Yeah, I think Greyworm is pretty safe on the show for now because if he died they'd have to introduce a new Unsullied leader that would basically just be Greyworm 2.0.

Interesting that they’re casting another Red Priestess instead of re-using the cool one that stared at Tyrion. Uh, maybe the new red priestess is with Euron, now that I think about it. A kind of warlock / dusky woman / Moqorro amalgamation.
So Randall Tarly is probably going to be in charge of repelling the Ironborn from the Reach. So the Tyrell army isn’t going to be resolving the situation in Kings Landing. And probably Loras won't be with the army, though maybe he is. Presumably they need to cast at least one maester if they’re doing Oldtown.
And yay that they’re doing Riverlands stuff. Hopefully they’ll round up Thoros and Edmure and Blackfish and Walder Frey and Sandor. One possibility that I hadn’t seen in this thread was that Sansa travels with Brienne on the Riverlands arc (rather than Brienne losing Sansa somehow). A Brienne / Sandor / Stark girl reprise could be extremely satisfying, especially if Littlefinger or Walder Frey was anywhere in the vicinity.
The Ned child, if that’s what it is, must be a Bran vision. Interesting to go to invented material there rather than using one of the back-story scenes that people have been calling out for. I’m not criticizing; the invented scene will probably tie in neatly to whatever they’re doing with Bran. But interesting choice when there has been so much speculation about different back-story scenes that could be revealed through Bran.

I'm glad a lot of you think Tormund is going to survive or that it's been semi-confirmed through all these weird internet spoilers out there! "The Internet is Dark and full of Spoilers" as the meme goes I guess!janicia you make a good point that Jon going back to the wall in retreat is just going to make him look like an even more terrible leader than many already think he is at this point. As Stannis says, the only way is forward at this point. There is no going back. I'm curious how the White Walkers slaughtering wildlings at Hardhome is going to make any difference to anyone other than those at the wall and Stannis. Stannis is the only one who really seems to actually take it seriously since he's there and everyone else is oblivious and wrapped up in their own drama. I want Tormund to survive too. I agree that none of the characters south of Stannis will care about Hardhome. But Hardhome will hopefully give the audience a reason to care about the White Walkers. My stupid guess is that Westerosi will start paying attention to the White Walkers when they overrun Winterfell in season 6. And then there will be some kind of convergence at the Twins to try to limit the White Walkers to the north maybe? Assuming that Sam does go to Oldtown, he'll be leaving with Hardhome fresh on his mind. So the maesters might get more excited about the White Walkers in the show than they did in the books. Suppose we'll see Salladhor this season? I can't imagine him being thrilled that Stannis is sending his ships to Hardhome.

Watched the promo again a couple of times trying to pick up details ... What's everyone's speculation on how Hardhome is going to play out? I have absolutely no idea what's going on there other than it looks like they're trying to fake us into thinking Jon's in danger of being killed by the wildlings again. Edit: They make it pretty clear from the dialogue the wildlings aren't going to make peace - so what then? Same scenario as book? Edit2: And by same scenario, I mean will they just leave them to die with combined Cotter Pyke / ships and Jon expedition (unresolved)? Will Jon just abandon the mission or do you think the wildlings will change their minds? Every time the Wildlings negotiate with Jon, some third party shows up and slaughters them. It seems to me that the Hardhome expedition must be somewhat successful in the show, since Jon has to survive it and still look competent. If Jon returns to the Wall with his tail between his legs, he'll be kind of pathetic and all the Wildlings will presumably die north of the Wall. The books gave Jon other victories to offset the defeat at Hardhome, and the books had other opportunities for Wildlings to get south of the Wall. But Hardhome is Jon's one big decision in the show and the only chance for the Wildlings to survive as a people. So Jon must manage to get a bunch (but far from all) of the Wildlings on the boats. It also seems important that Jon feels pretty confident going into the finale, and also that there be lots of Wildlings at the Wall at that point. It would be interesting to get a sense of the White Walker's agenda from Hardhome. The books had this sense that the White Walkers had been herding the Wildings to the Wall, and the show hasn't really expressed that. But the show gave the White Walkers corpse art and a baby ceremony; the show has definitely portrayed them as intelligent beings acting with some kind of purpose. It would be great to start to understand that purpose and to set up a sense of dread that the White Walkers are a definite threat to Westeros. The Battle at Castle Black did a lot of work in setting up the heavy northern focus of season 5. The Hardhome sequence hopefully will do the much-needed work to push the White Walkers to the front of the story. And once the White Walkers are a big deal in the show, Bran will work so much better as a part of the show narrative.

Seems like eventually there should be an episode called "The night is dark", and 5x10 would be a pretty appropriate one for that title, especially if Melissandre has a big moment. But "Daggers in the Dark" or "For the Watch" or "Winter" also seem super appropriate.

At some point, winter should lock down some of the characters and make it impossible for them to go anywhere. But it seems like most of the people we care about up north will be dead or on the move or safe in Wintefell before winter entrenches.

Oh Maybe! He appears at the end of Cersei's walk in Dance so he may do so again, unless they choose to just hold him off for season 6. Looking forward to see how they pulled off the headless CGI. That might not be a thing in the show. Cersei didn't send Gregor's head to the Martells in the show, and headless Gregor feels like one of those things that probably wouldn't fit with the aesthetic of the show. There was the one scene where Qyburn kept the dwarf head, but that felt to me like just a creepy Qyburn moment / nod to the books. Anyway, Robert Strong wears his helmet in the books. My guess it that they'll just have a helmetted Robert Strong in the show. Much easier that way, gives them leeway with a recast, and the helmet is faithful to the books.

Oh wow. Cersei trying to burn Kings Landing in front of Jaime would be a huge callback to Jaime and the Mad King. Yikes. I could really see that happening.

I think Mel survives. Carice gave an interview and mentioned something about next season but then quickly corrected herself saying she didn't know what was coming. She might go early S6 though I suppose. I also 100% believe in her magic and think without her, Stannis is basically fucked. Also, now that she's said she'll walk the walls of Winterfell, I'm sure she actually will at some point. Hmm, isn't she also supposed to meet Arya again? I feel like Melissandre still has something huge to do in the story. Especially in the show, where so many of the magic users have been omitted.

If we see a Tyrell trial, it seems like it would have to be a "blink and you miss it" scene, like Margaery and Tommen's wedding ceremony. Which probably is the way to go with all the trials anyway, we already saw the interesting stuff in the pre-trial and in Tyrion's trial. Though it seems like there is some possibility that Olenna and / or Tommen use military force to squelch the Faith and preempt the trials. What is the thinking on the dragon release? It seems like that has to happen, and I'm not at all sure who will do it. I can't see Hizdahr doing anything so stupid after the dragon snack scene. Dario is a wild card, so maybe it is him. Or maybe Jorah, Greyworm or Missandei release them in some attempt to help Dany? But even that is hard to fathom. I wonder if the dragons will just pull their chains free in the show? That might make the most sense and make for the best scene. Based on the ep 9 title, I think it probably happens then. The Sons of the Harpy might release them at the same time as their attack on the pit. So some extras run in to the dragon crypt and unchain them on purpose? Or they're trying to kill the dragons and somehow they unchain them on accident? Either way, who convinces those guys to go on that suicide mission? Or maybe they're trying to kill the dragons and that upsets the dragons enough that the dragons unchain themselves? But if the dragons are going to unchain themselves, they could do it in reaction to the riot and Dany abandoning the city, they don't strictly need the dead extras to motivate them. The way the dragons are chained up on the show, somebody has to walk all the way to the dragon side of the crypt to mess with those chains, and the dragons are on such a short leash that they'll be right there to murder anybody that gets near the chains. I guess the sons of the harpy could roll a projectile weapon to the crypt door and try to kill the dragons from a safe distance. That would at least make sense as a course of action, and it would make the audience wonder if that is the end of those two dragons until the dragons escape.

I hate that Sansa is getting the locked in her room Jeyne Poole treatment. How is Roose even allowing that? It was easy to see that for Jeyne since she was a fake, but this is an actual Stark. Shouldn't they give her a little more respect? Is that too much to ask? Well, given how Ramsay is treating her, keeping her locked up probably is the rational thing for Roose to do. If she has free reign of Winterfell, she could talk to people, hide, try to escape, and cause all sorts of problems. A deeply unhappy Stark wandering around Winterfell just isn't good for the Boltons. As for why Roose lets Ramsay treat her so badly, it seems to be some combination of Roose not feeling threatened by the outrage of any northerners that notice Sansa's mistreatment (it doesn't seem like there are non-Bolton forces in Winterfell to become outraged), Roose being a terrible person that vicariously enjoys Sansa's mistreatment, Roose not really distinguishing between what Ramsay is doing to Sansa and a normal marriage, Roose recognizing that Ramsay is a terrible person that he can barely control, Roose not wanting to intrude on the bedroom, Roose not planning on keeping Sansa around after she has her first son, and/or Roose not being as clever as he thinks he is.

Will the Tyrells be in this episode? Or KL will be basically Cersei and Septa Unella? I hope they have a small council scene with Tommen trying to figure out what to do, or maybe a Tommen / Olenna scene. Because while Cersei's arrest is hugely important in terms of her personal character arc, it is also pretty darn important in terms of "so who is running the country now?", and I hope the show depicts that. I doubt we see much of Margaery for the rest of the season, though it is possible that they find time for some kind of Tyrell trial / Loras execution.

Wasn't there supposed to be a new young female actress in the Winterfell arc? Pre-season speculation thought she might be fArya, but obviously that didn't happen. Has she shown up and I just didn't notice? Or maybe she'll show up when Pod and Brienne infiltrate or something.
So my stupid prediction for season 6 is that Bronn will go with Tyene on whatever her mission is. Bronn doesn't really have anything better to do - no roots, and he can tell the Lannisters are in a suicidal spiral. I imagine the show will dispatch the Sand Snakes somewhat differently than in the books (and maybe will also send Ellaria somewhere?). I think it would only make sense to send one Sand to Kings Landing (Ellaria, Tyene, or Nym?). If Oldtown is going to be important, a Sand will probably go there (Tyene and Bronn in Oldtown sparks my interest). If Dany is part of the Dornish plan, I could see a Sand being sent to Dany. If a Dornish army is going to do something, I could see a Sand staying with the army (Obara?).
