I think why I liked this one better than the first part (and this is coming from a slightly more objective viewpoint as someone who has not read the books) is that it was way more emotional. Literally nothing happened in the first part, there was no real emotion or consequences and it easily could have all been one movie but this one had so much more feeling and things actually happened and they happened for reasons and even the downtime scenes were more powerful. It was nowhere as good as the first two but I didn't feel like I wasted my money like I did when I left part 1. Also Finnick is the best character gtfo if u disagree I loved the first part actually. All in all, I think I prefer it over Pt 2. But I will need to rewatch, though. 2, 3 and 4 were pretty much perfect. The first movie was good, but it could have been even better. IMO: 2 > 3 > 4 > 1

Personally, I think the decision Joel and Katniss had to make was quite similar. Those last symbolic Hunger Games were meant to appease the rebels and prevent them from executing more residents of the Capitol than was absolutely necessary, so from that point of view, sacrificing 23 children could have prevent the deaths of who knows how many people. Sacrificing Ellie could have prevented the deaths of millions.Again, I'm not saying I approve of her decision, I'm just saying that I love anti-heroes who sometimes give in to their primitive urges for revenge, and I find them infinitely more fascinating than traditional heroes, who always strive to do the right thing, no matter what the circumstances. Yes, but that's not Katniss's reasoning at all. She just did it for revenge. Joel did it for love. We don't know that for sure, though. She doesn't reveal her reasoning in the book or the movie. Was it like this then? Seventy-five years or so ago? Did a group of people sit around and cast their votes on initiating the Hunger Games? Was there dissent? Did someone make a case for mercy that was beaten down by the calls for the deaths of the districts' children? The scent of Snow's rose curls up into my nose, down into my throat, squeezing it tight with despair. All those people I loved, dead, and we are discussing the next Hunger Games in an attempt to avoid wasting life. Nothing has changed. Nothing will ever change now. I weigh my options carefully, think everything through. Keeping my eyes on the rose, I say, "I vote yes...for Prim."

IMO: 2 > 3 > 4 > 1 I assume that's because you read the books, which is totally valid, but I really thought it was boring. It should have just been one movie.

It seems that way, but I think "for Prim" can be interpreted in different ways, especially since Katniss knows at this point (or at least suspects) that Coin did it, not Snow.

Also, let's not forget that Katniss pretty much immediately redeemed herself by shooting You-Know-Who, which made the entire more Hunger Games thing basically null and void.

By the way, @kairos , even though we disagree on this, I still love you. (I always feel bad when we disagree on things. )

The German titles of the books are so fucking lame. The series is called "Die Tribute von Panem", which translates to "The Tributes of Panem", and the individual books are called "Tödliche Spiele" (Deadly Games), "Gefährliche Liebe" (Dangerous Love) and "Flammender Zorn" (Blazing Fury). Who the fuck came up with these ridiculous titles?

I still haven't seen this, but the reactions from those of you who liked pt. 1 make me look forward to it. I'll probably go see the undubbed version on Monday. Regarding the German titles, they sound like Shades of Grey type novels.

I saw this the day it cam out I don't know why I wait so long to write about it. I thought it was great. I never had problem with the ending of the books like it seems some people did, so I really enjoyed that they stuck to it. The scene with Katniss and Buttercup was so good, JLaw did a really awesome job. Donald Sutherland killed it in this one. They definitely did Finnick's death scene justice, that whole sequence was done very well. Super creepy and the mutts were just as scary as I imagined when I was reading the books. The only thing I'm sad that they didn't get to include was Katniss and Joanna training to be able to go out into combat. I really would have liked to see more of their relationship. Also, I would have liked to see more of Peeta's recovery. Overall, I loved this series so much. Catching Fire is probably still my favorite, followed by Pt 2, Pt 1, and then The Hunger Games.
