I hope Alex Graves comes back as well and gets to direct an extra episode. ::trollface:: Although people on AFOIAF and ASOIAF reddit really hate him now (despite him being their darling after s3, the fickle fucks), I would love for Alex Graves to come back. I wouldn't be surprised if he does.

Please no more Alex Graves. I hate his weird shaky handcamera in dialogue scenes (at least I assume it's a handcamera, I'm no expert, but shaky it is!). I don't know why he does it but it feels completely out of place for me since the other directors don't do it. Besides, I don't need any more interviews from him ever again.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does. To be fair he deserves this for his complete lack of knowledge about characters. Good director but he knows nothing. I don't think many of the directors know too much about the characters and the books really but I think since Alex Graves was told certain details about what would happen in future seasons, his lack of knowledge comes from a place of greater confidance which probably makes it come across as more irritating.
Still though, the guy did 304, 305, 402, 408 and 410 which are all at the very least in my top twelve episodes...so I'll defend him.

^You didn't like ep. 304 and 305 even? No, I liked his season 3 work, I just really had a problem with his season 4 episodes. And since this is 2 episodes against 4, I'm more than sceptical, especially in combination with his questionable statements. Maybe it's just me, but look at this scene: He always does these weird angles and shaky camera-work. It irritates me. Some of his directing choices are really hit or miss for me. I loved how he did the sword fight between the Hound and Beric and I was absolutely stunned by his work for the Dracarys scene. But his season 4 episodes all felt lacking in the directing department IMO (the scenes that come to mind are weird camera angles during Joffrey's wedding, the Cersei/Jaime scene in the sept, Oberyn's fight with the Mountain and Bran's scene in 4x10).

Glad to hear Sapochnik will be returning! Yeah, he did a damn good job. It's funny, I had a lot of doubts that him and Mylod would be good at directing GoT given some of their previous work on shitty movies and TV but they both did very well. I hope Mylod's back too.

Sapochnik seems to be back next year y'all! Maybe he'll direct the BoI...or the Wall coming down.

D&D should also direct another episode again. They directed episode 401, that was one of the best premiere episodes of the show, with some great scenes like the reforging of Ice, Sandor's brawl and Oberyn's introduction.

I would also like to see Neil Marshall return as well at some point. I'd like for him to get a chance to show off his horror chops on the show. GoT's got him pegged as their go-to action guy but just imagine, for those of us who've seen the Descent, if he got to do a good WW or wight sequence? That'd be lovely.

Yeah it's hard to speculate what the penultimate episode will be in Season 6. Cersei attempting to burn KL, The Wall coming down, and Dany arriving in Westeros seem like finale moments to me, but there's a chance one of them could be an episode 9.

I think that makes his episodes more interesting. Most directors just do over the shoulder shots and switch constantly, which is just dull and unimaginative IMO. And the camera shaking a bit (it really doesn't shake much) gives it a bit more intimacy, rather than just being functional.

Yeah, I understand your reasoning and I've seen similar approaches in other shows and quite liked it there, but for some reason it really doesn't work for me here. Maybe it's because I associate this type of camera work with more modern settings and not with a medieval fantasy series. I would prefer shoulder shots with fewer (I almost wrote less but then I remembered Stannis ) cuts and just let the actors create the intimacy. I would have prefered fewer cuts during the Viper/Mountain fight as well. I guess it's a matter of different tastes. In the end, I still liked the episodes, but more because I enjoyed the writing and acting.

We know they have great computer graphics and CGI skills but will they have the entire thing fall or just Castle Black and the main "Gate" we're used to seeing as the centerpiece? Will the army of undead swarm over it a' la World War Z style or will they actually battle at the wall (with whatever armies are there) and then come through in a more epic version of that stockade wall at Hardhome? I'm really looking forward to that scene too.

On the condition that he do NO INTERVIEWS. Even though I agree with him about Tysha and LS. The man is a PR disaster.

I wouldn't be surprised if he does. I used to love Alex Graves, but how he handled the Sept scene, and how he talked about it afterwards turned me off completely. And that sucks because Kissed By Fire is my favorite episode of this show.
