Yeah he remembered the end of the Last Hero story and said, "The Children of the Forest will help him!" Which we were I guess meant to think was naivete instead of prescience, but it looks like he was right. Again. measter luwin took it that way but poor luwin was always wrong when he talked to bran about magic. that should've been the clue bran was right then too. It was the Maester's dismissal who clued me in early on that magic was in fact going to play a strong part in the story and I started paying more careful attention to the stories by Old Nan and when Bran thought of them. Those were some of the best foreshadowing ever. I thought it was great they had Dickon Tarly scoff at Gilly talking about Sam killing a White Walker to show that most of the 7 kingdoms are still in denial and dismissing the "myths" because we the audience are now fully in on it and this shows just how difficult it's going to be to pull most people out of ignorance in time to fight them.

Killed by a White Walker is the only fit death for Dickon now. This show has made me bloodthirsty. A pretty boy is dismissive to Gilly and Sam at dinner, and I want him murdered.

He may not be that bad, but I just saw him as a pretty young version of his abominable dad.

I actually didn't feel any hate towards the pretty boy Dick-on. He's just an ignorant fool. It's hard to hate anyone as much as Randyll though at that table... man he was a serious commanding presence in that room and menacing. I'm so glad they found the perfect actor for the part even if we don't see him again for awhile (maybe not even until next season?) ... They seemed to have toned down Dickon on the show. If I remember correctly how Sam described him in the books he was a bully just like Dad. At least on the show he was polite to Sam while talking about hunting.

As @envie said, not what we expected to see as book-readers. Do you guys still remember what Sam said about his brother way back in S1? I need to rewatch that.

I don't remember exactly either but I think he told Jon his brother was everything he was not ... strong, brave, a great hunter and rider, etc etc. I don't think he said he was mean.

I didn't find Dickon douchey at all. He made an ignorant comment about WWs, sure, but if I were to tell people today I'd killed a dragon or unicorn or something they'd probably scoff at me too. The White Walkers have faded into myth, haven't been seen for thousands of years. No wonder he is sceptical. And he otherwise seemed pretty nice to his brother

Douchey was just what I was expecting to see, not how he really turned out to be.

For me it's that and the fact that Freddie Stroma played a douchey character in Harry Potter. I mean look at his face:

I mean look at his face: And his name is Dickon. Sheesh GRRM! Even though I did not find him that bad in the show (hard to judge him by a couple of lines) but given what a hard ass Randyll is and how Sam was treated, I could see why Dickon seems more like Dad than Mom.

Dickon was decent in the books though he told his father about the cruel wager about Brienne's virginity. Totally different subject here, but when Benjen rescued Bran and Meera, what did he say towards the end of that first scene? To me it sounded like "The gate doesn't wait" or something which made me think of the gate under the Nightfort in the book, but now I'm wondering if I only heard what I wanted to hear since nobody else has mentioned it

Nope, nothing about a gate. He says they'll be waiting when he finds his way to the world of men. It's interesting that Benjen is draining the blood from the rabbit into a container. Is he a vampire now? Is that why he didn't come back to the Watch? Oh, and have we been discussing Benjen's epic weapons anywhere that I've missed? Oh, and I guess now is as good a time as any to gloat about the fact that I was right about Bran replacing Bloodraven as the new Three Eyed Raven.

Oh, and I guess now is as good a time as any to gloat about the fact that I was right about Bran replacing Bloodraven as the new Three Eyed Raven. Dan and Dave talk a bit (in the inside-the-episode video) about how The Three Eyed Raven is not even a real human in many ways and that would explain the "I've been waiting a thousand years" remark for sure. The 'power' is passed from one individual to the next as a legacy. I would think as long as he's been around, the Night King would know that too though and that killing him would just pass it on to Bran. Maybe he thinks Bran is an easier target to get to being crippled and with only Meera now to protect him. He's definitely not counting on Benjen's help though so that's something. As for Benjen and the rabbit's blood he gave to Bran, I really took that to mean he was just trying to give some quick energy back to Bran because of how weak Bran is from all the visions draining him. As disgusting as it seems, blood has very high nutrients while it's still warm straight out of whatever living creature it's drained from. I don't think there's any vampirism involved there. My suspicion about why Benjen didn't come back to the watch is because he's now half undead himself and thus the magic wards inside the wall would stop him from entering just the same as Coldhands explained. Since they are a merged character - it seems the most logical explanation for why he's stayed north of the wall all this time.

I just made the mistake of reading some IMDb reviews "Tommen made a dumb decision!" Yeah, he's a kid. He would do that "What's the point of Arya leaving and not being a badass assassin!?" Because she's not a faceless assassin, she is Arya. "What was the point of Horn Hill if Gilly's coming along anyway!?" Well I sure wouldn't want to leave anyone I care about with Randyll Tarly. And they all gave the episode a 1. As if it's the worst thing they've ever seen. I may be biased and really enjoyed this episode, but surely this is just stupid, right?
