I'm pretty sure that we speculated she was going to be the high priestess back when her casting info was released. I also thought she was very good in her role and convincing as just a little sympathetic and a little intimidating. I also agree with archiechvyalthan re-watch appreciation for Von Sydow - his voice is truly magnificent as Three Eyed Crow. We are fortunate to have him on the show to enjoy. My re-watch yielded this interesting ponder ( No Spoilers! There aren't any that I know of on this topic): How do you all think Sam is going to handle his Father's obvious outrage at him bringing a girl home with a baby? I foresee Sam being a lot more 'stand-up' brave than he was back before he left for the wall so perhaps that change will be just enough to keep his Father from flying off the handle and doing something awful like throwing Gilly and baby out the door or worse? I also think Gilly is going to stick up for Sam because he has always stuck up for her and protected her. I foresee a little wildling spark coming out of her and she'll proclaim him a hero who saved her life and killed a White Walker. That at least might be impressive to dear ol' Dad who is supposedly so intimidating he makes Tywin Lannister look like a kitten. I can't wait to see that scene! On the show right now von Sydow and Jonathan Pryce could take rats ass poor dialog and finesse it to gold with their speaking voices. I know it is an actors craft but they are grand masters (as is Charles Dance). Sam said it with his body language, he knows his father, but must know his father has some influence so he is willing to take a chance. Didn't Sam have a brother too? Yeah, Dickon. He will also appear.

I can't tell you how many times I've rewatched Max von Sydow saying "EVERYTHING". Nina Gold deserves a spot in Valhalla. She really is one of the MVP of the show. Along with the music, locations, and costumes, I would hope even the most fervent show haters can admit the casting is one of the things it does extremely well. Mance is probably my only minor complaint in that department, but it was hardly Ciaran Hinds fault. He played the version of Mance that they wrote for him. It might have been a case of them writing the part to suit the actor they chose, but I think Hinds could have pulled off the more charismatic book version if they went that route.

Good! I liked his work as Young Ned. I was greatly impressed by Luke Roberts as well. It can't be said enough, Nina Gold is a genius.

I really hope Meereen picks up soon because it's the only storyline that hasn't really clicked for me (not counting Sam and Dorne, who only had 1 scene). So far.... The Wall = Beautifully done all around Beyond the Wall = Very exciting King's Landing = Amazing build-up Braavos = Turned great again in episode 3 The North = Surprisingly strong so far The Iron Islands = One of the best intros ever Vaes Dothrak = Nice build-up, and it will probably be great next episode Meereen is struggling in comparison. The city feeling completely empty doesn't exactly help. Personally I think only lacking Meereen scene has been the one between Tyrion and Missandei & Grey Worm. Tyrion's eunuch jokes are getting bit too repetitive, but otherwise it has been good. Tyrion and Varys' banter in episode 1, the dragon scene in 6x02, and now the scene between Varys and the whore. Missandei & GW are boring as fuck, but that's not news to anyone, right? Dany's storyline has been the most boring so far IMO. Dorne is not boring, really, it's just utter shit. It'll probably get good next episode, with Drogon burning shit down, and Jorah & Daario arriving, though. Dothraki are pretty lame (ugh their jokes ), and the storyline over all has been pretty weak.

The actor obviously had to train a hell of a lot just to get halfway decent with the swords, and you can see it's him doing it for real from certain front-on shots, but the particularly impressive manoeuvres would have been the stunt double.

Nina Gold's work has been amazing, and some of the best evidence that casting agents are not well enough respected in the industry. There's been a recent push to have casting recognized in award shows like every other facet of television/filmmaking. I hope they start giving Max Von Sydow some material worthy of his talents, his clunky exposition was my only real issue with episode 3. I know this show tries to prevent major actors from outshining the material, but he worked with Bergman for crying out loud!

Alt Shift X makes the best videos (this one mentions CLEGANEBOWL so it could be he's more on board with the idea than in his CLEGANEBOWL video)

I'm pretty sure he says a bit about it in this one but he seems doubtful it'll happen (in the books anyway) EDIT: Okay, I can't see the video linked in this post for some reason. Here's the link:
