I just remembered that Alexander Siddig interview way back in June when he said he expected to be in 5 minutes of season 6. He didn't even make it that far What a damn shame and waste of a wonderful actor. Seriously wtf HBO. I love most everything they do but this one, they really screwed the pooch. Yep. People complain about characters like Mance Rayder being "wasted" but I disagree. Mance went out like a boss with one of the best written and acted scenes of season 5. He made an impact where it mattered. Alexander Siddig just died, bless him.

A quibble: I thought the interaction between the twins felt a little weak tonight. I'm not sure if it was the writing or if they've just gone through too much grief to have a fresh approach to it anymore. It might seem better on a second viewing when I'm less amped and can better appreciate subtleties. My quibble is that Cersei's recounting of the time after her mother died didn't sound like a 4yo's thoughts. What kid that young knows the stages of decomp?

So I rewatched Doran's death scene without judging it by the waste of Siddig and the prospect of the Sand Snakes becoming the mian players, and I kinda liked it. It's not poorly written, it's well acted and the Indira's delivery was pretty good. Trystane's death by Obara and Nym was still really cheesy, though. Now I have bigger hopes for the Dornish storyline if Ellaria remains the major player instead of the Sand Snakes, she seems to have improved this season.

So, archie was right about Pryce being added to the main cast. I just wonder why Sophie finally got her own billing while Maisie was grouped with Conleth.

Re-watched it and both Siddig and Varma did a terrific job in that scene all things considered. Just because we hate the plot twist they've decided to go with doesn't mean it was completely horrible. It's only when the sandsnakes do something that it turns comical in nature. I just can't take any of them seriously. I still find it really hard to believe little tiny Tyene can shove one little dagger in the back of Hotah's back and he instantly dies. That must have been some seriously powerful poison on that dagger.

And Kit was still in the main cast in the opening credits, I think his name was third or fourth. That kinda makes it obvious he's coming back. I know Charles Dance also got his name in the credits as main cast in 4x01, but he's fucking Charles Dance. Kit would've appeared as a guest actor instead.

I think they aged them up older than the books there too because if I remember correctly Oberyn recalls the scene where Cersei takes them in to see baby Tyrion and show them the "Monster" while they were visiting and they were older than 4 weren't they?

Hard to say really, as it was so quick.

I was surprised that I liked Dorne's scene. I think Indira Varma was great.
I think this was an ok episode. I liked every scene.
Scene with Cersei was so good.

Well I'm off to bed and have to work half day tomorrow so I probably won't get to do much discussing until later in the day after all the other folks catch up and I fully expect this to be on like page 45 or something with 90% of it being Sandsnake hate haha. Hopefully the other 99% of the episode was worthy of forgetting Dorne.

No, it was the books where they were older. The age difference was lessened on the show, probably because no one would buy Peter as 7/8 years younger than Lena.

Favorite parts/observations: Sansa and Theon. Theon got his balls back! Er, so to speak. Davos and Co, at the Wall. When they lifted Jon's body out of the snow, all I saw was blood. But what was that puzzled look from Davos about? Seems he saw or sensed something off. Ghost!!! I've missed you!!! Where the heck is Bronn? Lena is a terrific actress. Just the way Cersei's facial expression changed as the boat came into the harbor... That was brilliant. I was sort of hoping Trystane would survive. Silly me. Totally was not expecting that Melisandre scene.
Overall, I thought the episode was a bit slow, but I think it will pick up nicely next episode.

Where was it ever stated on the show they are 4 years apart in age? I'm actually going to bed, so don't bother answering, it really doesn't matter and honestly you just seem spoiling for nitpick arguments anyways between this and the other thread so with that I bid you good night!

Small detail: Did you notice how there was an emphais on Melisandre getting into bed and under the warm blanket? She is actually cold for the first time and this is showing that. In the past, her faith has kept her warm but now, her faith is shaken.

Blackwater: Witchy stated a quibble, so I did. Apologies and good night, ma'am.

I swear someone was watching Tyrion and Varys while they were walking, but I can't figure out who.

I think they set-up that Yunkai is behind everything in Meereen.

Melisandre's last scene was amazing by the way. I loved how both the beginning and ending of the episode took their time to really drive home the impact.

Goddammit, I still can't get over Ramsay telling the maester to feed Myranda to the hounds, this kind of stuff is why I love him so much
