No one is ever going to touch what Robin Williams did with that role...but I think Smith could do well as his version of the Genie.

Williams is going to be a tough act to follow for the Genie.

Aladdin was among my favourite movies as a child, and this is going to ruin everything. I probably won't go to watch it.

since i love pain, i watched Academy Award Winning Film ( ) Suicide Squad again, and i have come to the conclusion that... ...it's a perfectly okay movie. Acting is good, plot is serviceable, characterization is on-point (I know this for a fact because I'm extremely familiar with the characters involved), directing is meh, editing is shit, soundtrack was fine in theory but they went overboard, action sequences were decent, CGI needed work. Perfectly solid comic book movie. Not great by any means, but not deserving of the hate it gets. I'm excited for Ayer and Margot to team back up for Gotham City Sirens.

Has anyone seen the Ghostbusters reboot? Is it actually as bad as the internet makes it out to be? I'm considering watching it, just because I recently fell in love with Kristen Wiig.

No, it's not that bad. Not great, but serviceable. The cast are way better than the material they are given (Seriously, McKinnon, Wiig, McCarthy and Hemsworth are hilarious and it's a shame they didn't have better material) It's no worse than any of the other mediocre Hollywood remakes that currently clog the market, but because it's changed the leads to women THEY HAVE LITTERALLY RUINED OUR CHILDHOODS AND MURDERED PUPPIES AND BABIES ON SCREEN! People seriously heaped on the hate and it was mostly undeserved. The hate was definitely overblown because of the change of sex of the leads.

Ghostbusters is the perfect example of how not to market a film. When the first trailer got negative reactions the director and cast went to social media to say that haters on the internet were sexist and misogynistic and the original films weren't even that special.
It was fucking astounding how bad the publicity for this movie went. Look at Star Wars and how the new movies appealed to the original fans. Then look at Ghostbusters and how they went to social media to alienate the fans. It doesn't make any sense, and only Sony would allow such a castrophe to happen. They are by far the least competent movie studio and they just posted a 7 billion dollar loss, because they don't understand that when you remake a movie you have to appeal to the original fanbase.
It's amazing. In Sony's haste to accuse fanboys of sexism, they generalized and stereotyped their fanbase. As Palpatine would say: it's ironic.

I mean, look at the cast, there's got to be some great comedy in there somewhere. Hoo boy is the CGI lame tho.

Nooo, my long post didn't post properly The shortened version: It was always going to be an uphill struggle with this movie. there was no doubt legitimate criticism of the movie and trailers (especially the "stop with the remakes in general" because I agree with that) , but it was buried by the vitriolic, sexist/misogynistic comments of social media trolls. I have no problem with the cast calling that out, though I don't recall the specifics of what they said, so probably they could have been more tactful about tarring everyone with the same brush. If I recall Leslie Jones was pretty bad for this, but maybe I'm mistaken. And I wish the legitimate criticism could have been engaged with more, but as I say it was just buried by everything else. I'll take your word on Sony as a company. I don't know much about that side of things.

I still haven't watched the Ghostbusters remake. I have mixed feelings about it. I never really cared about the original Ghostbusters so I was never in the "errmahgerd they're going to taint the original!" camp, but I am in the camp that thinks it's a bit ridiculous that remakes with different genders even have to be a thing. Why not write an original female driven comedy? I feel a little less annoyed knowing a new generation of young girls will see this as *their* Ghostbusters, but still.
I really love Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Melissa McCarthy can be really funny as well. Kristen Wiig is overrated, imo. lol

I watched the Ghostbusters remake and thought it was pretty awful. The tone and the humor is completely wrong, is very similar to "Bridesmaids" (which is a film I enjoyed) the problem is Ghostbusters has nothing to do with those kinds of comedies. The characters are completely annoying, the scenes with improv are really obvious and lame and go on for far too long, the story needed some rewrites to be more cohesive and interesting and the only character I liked was Leslie Jones, because she was the one who acted more like a human being when she wasn't yelling. The rest of the cast is trying so hard to be funny is painful to watch.
IDK, IMO if you're going to make a remake instead of original content you need to at least respect the tone and style of the original movie, doesn't have to be exactly the same, but what they wrote was your typical Paul Feig movie, with his very particular brand of humor, casted actresses that work well in Paul Feig movies, added a few ghosts and called it Ghostbusters. And it doesn't work.
Yes, is true that there were trolls whose main reason for hating the movie was the all female cast, but Sony took those trolls and made it look like everyone who didn't like the movie was a sexist troll, people who went into the theatres hating the movie for having women, and that was not the case. The movie under-perfomed because the script was half-cooked at best and the performances were too over the top.
