Looked really bland. Also Tom Hanks as a villain, really? I love the guy but it's because he's an everyman actor. |

I watched the 2016 Blair Witch sequel tonight and I didn't really like it.
I was kind of disappointed that they went full on supernatural with this. What made the first movie great is that you never actually see the Blair Witch or really anything supernatural. I think that enhances the story so much, most of the scary stuff takes place in your head. Is it really an evil supernatural entity that is tormenting these students, or maybe a bunch of hillbillies? Or are Josh and Mike psychopaths who are fucking with Heather and leading her to an old cabin in the woods to kill her ... which by the way is my favourite theory and the one that I personally subscribe to. You never really know, but that's precisely why the movie is so effective.
In this one ... yeah, it's magic, the fucking witch is real, they even show her a few times (and she kind of looks like old Melisandre). It's ridiculously over the top, and it relies way too much on cheap ass jump scares. And most of them were fake jump scares anyway.
Jump scares are going to murder my love for horror movies, I swear.
