Do you think Alec Guinness tousled Mark Hamill's hair when they were shooting A New Hope? I like to think that he did.

I swear to god the young Leia book has one of the sweetest and emotional endings of any of these Star Wars books, but then throws a hilariously depressing final line that I feel like I need to share: I mean fucking hell Claudia Don't make me this emotional before I've even seen the new movie!

By chance I have managed to find a cinema with a relatively empty screening. So I'm now waiting for it to start, sitting alone with my cup of coffee. Bliss. Get hype!

I figured I'd have to wait a little longer before I could start talking about it with someone. Guess not! I'm not one to get emotional watching movies. Or rather, I've felt stuff inside before, but never physically gotten emotional (if you get what I mean). Long story short: there's more than one bit that had me a little teary-eyed. Basil I need to single you out for a sec because, regardless of how you think of the movie as a whole, there's one bit that I just know (or really strongly hope) you will absolutely love.

I'm probably going to see it on Monday, I told my brother on the phone to get us some tickets asap. He's already seen it and he has some mixed feelings, but that's pretty much all he told me.

I think Alec Guinness didn't really know what the hell was going on and was waiting for the check to clear. Yeah I'm pretty sure he was a bit of a grouch when it came to Star Wars. I heard he was once met by a fan who wanted his autograph, who said he'd seen the movie multiple (like 7) times, and Guiness joked that he'd only sign if the fan never watched it again.

Whoa, why does this have such a low audience score? 57% on Rotten Tomatoes for The Last Jedi. My friends who stood in line on Thursday night were all disappointed.

It does make some very bold choices, which some people will love, and others hate. (Although I half-suspect there may have been a little brigading on RT - I'm shocked it would end up as low as the prequels, even if you didn't like it)

I'm also a fan of Rian Johnson so the mixed reactions are kind of intriguing to me, I might really enjoy this movie, but I'll wait a few weeks. I'm not a Star Wars fanatic, though, so my expectations are always pretty low. I'm almost sad to the real fans come away a bit underwhelmed. Here's the review my friend posted on facebook, he is waving a lightsaber around in his profile pic:

I'd like to guess reasons for this divide, but it'll all have to be spoiler tagged I think some people had their expectations set drastically different to how the movie ended up. For instance some people wanted Rey Skywalker(/Solo/Kenobi), some people wanted a huge, shocking background for Snoke, and some people wanted Luke to be the most powerful guy in the galaxy (which he totally is so I can't understand that criticism). To see all those theories come crashing down would definitely be disappointing if you believed in them. As someone who believed 1) that Rey was a nobody 2) Snoke wouldn't have some huge backstory explained in the movie 3) that Luke wouldn't be some god-like figure for the entire movie I feel SO VINDICATED

Yeah I think the thing with the prequels is that the people who loved them as kids have now grown up and are very vocal on the internet, hence the popularity of prequel memes. As for your friend, fair enough if he didn't like it, but I couldn't disagree more with the "neither bold nor challenging" claim. Like I can't believe he watched the same movie as me.

I must confess that I liked Rogue One a lot better than The Force Awakens. The latter left me feeling a little bit underwhelmed overall, whereas Rogue One really managed to reach me on an emotional level, like no other Star Wars movie, save A New Hope, ever has.
The themes of Rogue One were extremely powerful to me. The depiction of the rebel's desperate struggle against the overwhelming power of the Empire ... and at the end, a ray of hope. That last scene with Princess Leia had me in tears.

It sounds like he found it predictable, which I can understand being disappointing considering the last few weeks of marketing revolved around avoiding spoilers because of mind-blowing twists. I'm curious what your theories are, but I can't click your spoiler until I've seen the movie!
