Good thing I wasn't waiting for this hardcore like some people. I was interested when it was Versus but then it went to development hell and I had XIII to play to waste time (XIII anyway. The sequels not so much) so I stopped waiting.
Glad it's finally here though. Only thing stopping my hype train is the final combat which we'll get to play in the demo very soon.

I'm curious to see if they have improved the combat at all because I really did not enjoy the gameplay in the first demo. It felt extremely chaotic, and not in a good way like in Kingdom Hearts, just irritating. Half the time I had no idea what the fuck I was doing. Also, the frame rate was fucking horrendous, seriously, they need to fix that. All these random weapons materializing out of thin air for a split second was kinda weird, too. I want my characters to wield giant swords that are visible all the time, not only during attacks. |

The graphics have aged horribly, but this is so powerful still, omg.  Tifa's reaction is absolutely heartbreaking. I guess only someone who has played this as a kid will truly understand the impact of this scene. |

I had no idea what I was doing. But the newest footage actually looked fun! Heard they took complaints from the demo and fixed things so I hope it's fun. I wouldn't have even minded a blatant KH ripoff lol |

Have you guys played the new demo yet? I did for like twenty minutes and ... did not love it. The framerate still has issues and the combat system is so monotonous. It's like Kingdom Hearts, only much slower and with none of the exciting jumping around and epic combos, just hold down circle to win.  I will start over tomorrow and finish it, maybe it gets better. The graphics were really pretty, though ... and I love the soundtrack. |

Yeah I just played it. Though it was blah until the boss. Apparently it's not just hold attack and win (you can do that though).
Depending on the direction (towards enemy, away from enemy) you use the stick it does different moves for each weapon. I didn't know that until I just read a post on it. And you can get a shield and shuriken in the area too. So there is more to it than I thought! And you can fight the boss as many times as you want so definitely going to try that stuff out later.
Edit: Example, copied and pasted for laziness
Greatsword:
Hold analogue away from target = Tempest - Tornado attack with multiple hits
Hold forward = Brave Slash = Lunge forward with heavy attack - closes gap.
Normal swings restore 40 mp per hit.
Can Parry the Boss.
Slow warp.
