By the way, do you know if the English translation is any better than the German one?  I think I'm downloading it for PC (because it's much more practical to play it on PC than on console tbh). But I can't decide if I should get it in German or in English. Ich sags besser auf Deutsch. Okay, zum einen, die deutschen Übersetzungen für PC und PS1 sind nicht identisch, soweit ich weiß wurden sie von verschiedenen Übersetzern angefertigt und unterscheiden sich teilweise enorm. Trotzdem sind beide furchtbar, leider, ich würde sogar sagen, dass mir PS1-Übersetzung ein bisschen mehr gefällt. Ob sich die englische PC-Übersetzung ebenfalls von der PS1-Übersetzung unterscheidet weiß ich auf Anhieb nicht. Die englische Übersetzung ist jedenfalls deutlich besser, aber gut ist sie trotzdem nicht. Sie ist der deutschen Übersetzung jedoch auf jeden Fall vorzuziehen. Entscheiden musst du dich allerdings nicht wenn du das Spiel auf Steam kaufst, da kannst du die Sprache nämlich auswählen und jederzeit ändern. |

I've played it when it came out like almost ten years ago. The gameplay is fun, but the story is shit, it's like bad fanfiction. I like to pretend that this and the rest of the compilation crap don't exist, because most of it really messes with the story and lore of the main game. Like, you know how in FF7, Zack's death is brutal and kinda pathetic, he's basically executed, and that was kinda the point of that whole scene. Well in Crisis Core, Zack takes out like a hundred Shinra soldiers first, he's literally up against an entire fucking army with choppers and stuff, it's the most heroic and epic shit ever. And when he finally dies, a cheesy as fuck J-Pop tune is played, and he repeats his fortune cookie catch phrase one last time (Embrace your dreams), it's pretty unbearable.  |

Yeah, I really don't like the story at all. For me, it's either this or Dirge of Cerberus for the worst game of the Compilation story-wise, and I'm honestly more inclined to give it to Crisis Core. At least Dirge of Cerberus takes place after FF7 and doesn't retcon the shit out of that game. I don't know if you care about spoilers, but I'll put this in spoiler tags just in case.  A few examples of how Crisis Core messes with the story and the established lore of FF7: Rufus Shinra has a brother, who's like a really nice guy, but he ends becoming a Sephiroth clone or something, I don't remember the details, but it's really bizarre. Zack is basically Tidus. Sephiroth is not unique any more, there are others who were created the same way as he was and who are equally powerful as him (perhaps even more powerful), Angeal and Genesis, and they're both really bland. In fact, Genesis was the one who told Sephiroth about his origin as just another JENOVA experiment. There is also a deity that was never mentioned in the main game, Minerva the Goddess of the Planet, who ends up being the final boss, I think.
When they were faithfully depicting the Nibelheim incident, that was the part of Crisis Core that I actually enjoyed, but unfortunately that's only like ten percent of the game, the rest is garbage, imo. |

I'm slowly losing hope of it being good the longer it takes. I really, really hope that Squeenix already have FFXVI in development and that whatever the hell they're planning for that doesn't take half a century and is also really good. |
