Aragorn is my least favourite member of the Fellowship. Boromir is my favourite. My favourite book is RotK and favourite movie The Two Towers.
I read the books and saw the films when I was 10. After that I've watched the movies dozens of times and done re-read thrice.

I love everyone. But admit it, you love him a little bit more than the rest, right?!

I love everyone. But admit it, you love him a little bit more than the rest, right?! I love him. I really, really do. But he's actually my least favourite Hobbit. Sam > Merry > Frodo > Pippin. Sam is my favourite character. EDIT: Basil, notice how I said least favourite Hobbit. He's far away from being my least favourite character in general.

Book-wise Legolas is my least favourite member of the fellowship because he doesn't really add much. The others all feel very distinctive and work well as individual characters, whereas Legolas is just sort of there. Although book Legolas is still preferable to the trunk surfing, shield-sledding...thing we got from Peter Jackson My favourite Fellowship member from the books...tricky. Toss up between Boromir and Sam, but I think Sam might just nudge ahead, if only because he is around longer. Non-Fellowship Faramir or Eowyn. Probably Eowyn though. Oh, and the Scouring of the Shire is possibly my favourite part of the book Favourite fellowship member the film is Boromir by a country mile. but then I don't like the films that much :-X Except film Gollum. Highlight of trilogy.

I totally agree with you guys about Sam. He's my favorite, too.
"You've left out one of the chief characters - Samwise the Brave. I want to hear more about Sam. Frodo wouldn't have got far without Sam. "
And yes, stoneheartsrevenge, Gollum is awesome in both the books and the film.

Damn, I need to reread them now, feeling all nostalgic thinking about them...but do I do the full read through, from Silmarillion to RotK, is the question...

One thing I didn't like about LotR was that basically only "hero" who dies is Boromir.

One thing I didn't like about LotR was that basically only "hero" who dies is Boromir. Frodo suffers post-traumatic stress disorder and can never really return to the "home" he's thought so longingly of throughout his journey, Theoden dies, Denethor (arguably a tragic hero in the books at least) dies/commits suicide, Arwen ends her days alone and depressed when Aragorn pre deceased her, much of the magic in Middle Earth is gone forever...it's a really good example of a bittersweet ending, without the ridiculous "Everyone died. The end." that a lot of people seem to think that means. At least IMO. But I love Tolkein too much to be impartial

This is perfect. Ok, I said I don't really like the films but the soundtrack was glorious, I can't deny. Perfection.

I wrote my senior paper in high school comparing Beowulf and Lord of the Rings. 12 pages of pure glory. I finished like two weeks before everyone else because I actually enjoyed my subject.

Damn, I need to reread them now, feeling all nostalgic thinking about them...but do I do the full read through, from Silmarillion to RotK, is the question... I did a re-read last year. It is interesting how odd it is to read something you enjoy at different times in one's life. Holds up perfectly fine for me, which is not always the case with some books. I didn't touch the Silmarillion though. Once was enough. I'm still having images of Eru creating his Music and Melkor being cast aside like Lucifer stuck in my brain. The wording was pretty old style if I remember correctly. Ole ye go forth... My favorite movie is The Two Towers. *highfive* at @rooseisazorahai! I know many consider it the weak link but I think the Helm's Deep battle best one and just generally like to geek out whenever we get to that part when Haldir shows up coming to honor that allegiance.

Haldir showing up at Helm's Deep makes my inner geeky book purist (who admittedly, is not buried very deeply...) weep with rage eta: I love all of the Silmarillion, but I'm not always in the mood to read from creation myth to the end, so I'll begin with Melkor and Ungolant taking the light from the trees, or possibly The Coming of the Elves

I'm always geeking out on Haldir. It's Craig Parker's fault. I never was a book purist when it came to PJ's take on LotR. I can't explain it. Ok maybe completely cutting the Scouring of the Shire was a bit too much, but other than that I thought it was ok. He might have cut a bit the length of some scenes but that's more an editing issue and his personal preference than anything else.
