And how did Waller survive being held by Enchantress? Like, she's being suspended upside down with a tentacle in her brain, then she just strolls back to the party like nothing happened?

I feel shoved into a corner regarding the Joker. On one hand, more of him would've helped Harley's story and may have made it a bit more coherent, but then there would be more of a Joker I didn't care for. If they hadn't centered marketing around him, I'd wonder if the reason they cut his scenes was because they weren't happy with this version? Like maybe it was too different? Here's the timeline based on my extensive following of this movie and remembering everything Jared says because it is gospel and some assumptions thrown in because I know my shit and live on SHH 1 Jared Leto is living his awesome life of passing the horn etc. 2. Jared Leto is approached by WB to play supporting part in Suicide Squad. There is no other consideration. These people literally invite him to play (source - Ellen's interview in March this year). 3. Jared is like YES! since this gives him a chance to yet again dye his hair a crazy color and wax his pubes (which was for no reason at all, it must be a kink because who the fuck does this to themselves unless you are 1. a chick 2. it's a date) 4. David Ayer pitches him this idea of villain movie, more artistic and experimental than usual superhero movie 5. Jared gets into the role and does method thing (but not full time - he was banging some 21 year old in Toronto during the time of the shooting, I bow to her - I'd not take him in this condition ) (source me going through TMZ tag for him when I'm bored at work) 6. David Ayer being a pussy or just not well suited for the job at all or scared or intimidated, whatever the reason DOESN'T DIRECT JARED AT ALL. He let's him do however many takes for each scene he has and experiment 7. The studio chooses the first pic to release - of the Joker. Because fuck yeah it's the Joker and we have Academy Award winner playing him! 8. They release Bohemian Rhapsody trailer. They have test screenings. 9. The test screening don't like Joker being abusive of Harley. They think he is too weird and brutal. 10. BvS is released 11. WB instead of focusing that BvS is a fucking horrible film and that is why it was hated goes into panic mode thinking that BvS failed because it was bleak. While ignoring the BvS claims of editing at the peak of their stupidity they decide to GIVE THE MOVIE TO EDIT TO PRODUCTION COMPANY that made Bohemian Rhapsody trailer with additional info from test screening 12. Jared is still led to believe he has at least 40 minutes of screentime and promotes the movie, going to visit Ellen as early as March all at the time his scenes were being cut and he had no idea 13. WB continues to circle the promotion around the Joker featuring him in promos and TV spots featuring scenes that they know are not in the movie. 14. The weeks before the premiere to the day of premiere - Jared attends Comic Con, gives multiple interviews, covers Rolling Stone, visits Fallon. Calls playing the part the most fun he ever had, is psyched for the movie. 15. The day after premiere till now and on and on - Jared finds out he has a cameo in the movie, is bewildered why the studio did what it did, continues to promote the movie but in a drastically different mood than before, says his part is a cameo, stuff was cut etc. And because WB hyped him so much, everyone talked of his method acting (which he did thinking he has a big part) they just left him here, to be ridiculed by the masses who think he did all of that for 7 minutes screentime 16. Day 13 since release - no statement from WB about missing scenes. 17. HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND. Jared had no direction whatsoever. The movie he ended up being is not the movie they promised him. And WB not releasing his scenes or even promising to release his scenes just makes shit worse. Another thing is that Ayer showed he is not able to even follow his own script/movie continuity so it's no wonder out of at least dozen takes of every scene Jared has Ayer couldn't choose stuff that would translate into one performance. It's an ungodly mess and Leto has been used as a marketing pawn. It grosses me out. Their treatment of Leto echoes their ridiculous short-slightness of marketing - they market to get the biggest opening weekend, they did but now the movie is plummeting. They pitched God knows what to Jared to sign him, get him to be in their movie, he appeared and now the state of matters is that no one in the world would blame the man to run from these people. I agree wrt the music, especially at the start. Obviously they wanted to give each character their own song, but it really didn't work and was inserted in a really clunky way that meant that part of the film didn't flow at all. Like, you could almost imagine a child gluing together bits of paper to make an image, but not lining the edges up properly. That's how that opening sequence ended up looking. Amanda Waller, for all she was badass and villainous, was monumentally stupid for not protecting Enchantress' brothers' effigy. And Enchantress surviving Waller stabbing the heart was equally eye roll inducing. What was the point of her being bound by Waller's control of the heart if it was going to be overcome so easily. And if Enchantress can get military records from top secret and presumably highly secure locations many many miles away, why the hell cant she just take her heart back herself? Also, what was her "weapon" actually supposed to be, and how exactly was she "building" it? Far as I could tell she just did some weird kind of modern techno dancing while there were some crazy disco lights and a swirling ring of confetti above her. I mean, confetti cannons and strobe lighting have been known to floor me whilst inebriated, but I don't think they quite cut the mustard for issuing in the darkness and enslaving humanity And how did Waller survive being held by Enchantress? Like, she's being suspended upside down with a tentacle in her brain, then she just strolls back to the party like nothing happened? It's just garbage on fire After a day of thinking about the events I just gave up. The issues you guys mentioned are there but seriously the basic stuff is not given explanation - Joker just leaving Harley behind for Batman (explained in original script), Harley choosing her friends over Joker, Joker even wanting to turn Harley (explained in original script), Boomerang coming back for no reason etc. BvS has some issues that are more glaring but as a whole at least its somewhat coherent even though the premise is asinine

Admin I heard about the movie being edited by a trailer production company, at first I thought that was too dumb to be true, but now that you've confirmed it and explained why, I can see why the WB execs would do such a stupid thing: the Bohemian Rhapsody trailer was great and it reminded people of the GoTG trailer and the Deadpool movie, so they probably thought "here's an idea, this company can make the trailer look like GoTG, which was a huge hit for Marvel, and some people say it looks like is going to be similar to Deadpool, another hit movie, so they will be able to make the film as successful as GoTG and Deadpool, let's bring in people who had no involvement whatsoever in the production of the film to edit it, because a movie is just like a trailer but longer" Here is an article that says the movie had six different cuts (which is way too many) and it confirms my theory that the flashbacks scenes weren't meant to be flashbacks at all, they were meant to be actual scenes, but they changed it because apparently test audiences found it confusing. Which explains why the first half is such a mess, it wasn't supposed to be like that at all, but WB are so eager to please everyone and get money they changed the movie to make it easier to understand instead of betting on their product and in the end, they messed up the movie so badly they destroyed it and people didn't like it. Because people want to see good movies. The Joker scenes are the best example: is easy to see his role was supposed to be bigger, but the company that edited the film obviously thought he wasn't relevant to the main plot and the only reason they kept him at all was because the film was already done shooting and they couldn't cut him out completely. The problem WB has is that they want all the success and money the Marvel films get without all the time Marvel spent building a shared universe and they care more about marketing and cool-looking movies and their gritty realism that they do about having good scripts for their movies and their characters, which are the main reasons people go see anything with the Marvel logo nowadays.

Admin The test audiences bitched about the (canon) Joker/Harley relationship being abusive and not that clusterfuck of a 2nd half? I actually didn't know he had no direction. Clearly they either should've 1) reeled him in and told him to act a certain way or 2) made the movie that Jared thought those antics would work in. FWIW, he's handling it a lot better than I would be. I'd be talking a lot of shit if all my scenes were cut.

The Leto thing reminds me of what happened with Anna Paquin (the actress who played Rogue in the X-Men movies) in DOFP, she was supposed to be in a good chunk of the film, there were rumors of Anna being on set and filming action sequences (and she had a really high spot in the billing credits) and then, while they were still filming the movie, stuff "changed" (IMO what changed is that JLaw won an Oscar) and somehow the whole movie ended up being about Mystique while Rogue ended up as a cameo with no lines. Anna Paquin still did press for the movie, but you could clearly see she wasn't really into it, that she was doing it because of a contract and not because she was excited about the movie, and later said via twitter she was done with Rogue after someone asked her if she would return. Eventually FOX released a "Rogue cut" that was just a regular extended cut with a couple Rogue scenes in which she had like three lines total. But at least Paquin knew what had happened before the movie was released, Leto was in the dark until the release and he probably signed to play the Joker in several films, which is worse. Of course people are going to find upsetting seeing an abusive relationship on screen, abusive relationships are upsetting FFS, but that's the dynamic between Harley and Joker. Is not a disney romance where they fall in love at first sight and marry after knowing each other for two hours

Exactly the cut of the movie shown to test audience was linear cut - it began with Enchantress in the cave and then showed the members of the Squad doing their thing and being captured. The whole thing was chopped and inserted into Amanda Waller's presentation of the guys scene in the restaurant. Admin The test audiences bitched about the (canon) Joker/Harley relationship being abusive and not that clusterfuck of a 2nd half? I actually didn't know he had no direction. Is not a disney romance where they fall in love at first sight and marry after knowing each other for two hours The whole last act appears to be reshot - Joker was actually pushing the Harley out of the chopper and then he came back for her again in the last act and fought the Squad but Harley chose them. The whole thing with her asking Enchantress to bring him back and then him breaking her out of the prison was done in the reshoots. Leto is a class act. He is the only person involved in the movie that actually acknowledges the theatrical cut is different from the movie they shot and respects the fans. I mean to treat any actor like he was treated is awful but to treat Academy Award Winner who literally does acting gigs only when he wants to is just stupid. I think the way they treated him would allow him to wiggle out of the contract because to me they did not hold they end of the bargain and used him. Jared hates being used, he literally did entire documentary about how his record company treated him badly so WB, being dumb as they are, if they don't do whatever it takes and let him walk can be looking at some super awesome Leto wrath featuring curse words and legions of fangirls boycotting their movies

Harley still choosing the Squad over the Joker makes no sense.
Rogue is a great comparison, she was the only reason I was looking forward to DOFP and I skipped it until I could see the Rogue cut. I wonder if WB will release a "Joker cut"
Studios don't care about actors uless they're huge A list stars. Paquin is an Oscar winner herself and she also got shafted as Leto did.

I heard a suggestion that if they don't release some sort of extended cut, they could release like a "'Mad Love" short film, which would be a collection of the Joker and Harley scenes that got cut, and tell their story more in depth. Obviously it would have to match up with the revised plot, but apparently they filmed TONS of backstory that we will never see.

Just found out the tattoos and the grill, which are some of the most hated things about Boo's Joker were actually not his idea but Ayer's.
I feel that bitch is another one I should go on twitter rampage against.

Welp, this goes to show everyone just because you make a few really good dramas, doesn't mean you can handle a big budget super hero movie. Seriously, the grill, tattoos, and general Hot Topicness were such a misstep. wtf was he thinking?

OK so without beating around the bush....you've probably seen the headlines Jared say F you to WB. A few days back someone on SHH forum quoted a post from tumblr that Jared said during Camp Mars that he feels tricked etc. about Squad. Me and few others shared that on SHH. It turned out that someone who has relatively big website - Batman News - posts there too and he saw my post and that initial tumblr account of a fan I linked ended up being the subject of their news article. So basically the guy used the tumblr story of a fan using her impression of what Jared meant when he was saying things and posted it. Then of course all the other outlets posted it, sites like cinemablend and ign. In the attached video when asked about what his thoughts are that WB doesn't allow him to do any rock-climbing (Jared loves that) he said "fuck them". Jared throws F word around a lot so it was a joke, a harmless one but it was of course used as clickbait "Jared says F u to WB!". And now we find out WB got him to their precious baby, something everyone will see because it is a follow up to the classic. It almost or totally reads as 'we are sorry, don't give up on us' offering'. Did I...did I just help Jared get that gig? Also what the hell is it these days with someone not checking the source and just going ahead and publishing everything as news? Tumblr as a source, really? It's one think to talk about gossip on a message board but to actually report on that is fucked up

$28 mil away from breaking even. Will make a profit. Fucking WB will never learn now, won't they? No, they won't. It will probably won't make as much money as they hoped, just like MoS and BvS, but until they have a huge flop, they will keep doing what they are doing, films that think dark and edgy is the same as mature and interesting, with flimsy plots and boring characters that are secondary to the explosions and fight scenes, and elements copied from other successful movies that don't work in theirs.

And they just grabbed Leto's massive balls since the man was bribed (but let's face it so was me and other fans of his) with whatever he was offered in Blade Runner 2 so he ain't going anywhere. We are still stuck in shit
