I was surprised when I logged on yesterday to see it comes out on Friday. I thought it was way further off. I'll take it. Yeah, I've known the release date for ages and I am actually pretty excited to see it back but in my brain it's still like March or something and where the hell does the year go, pretty sure I was just drunkenly stumbling through the new year yesterday or something.

Finished the season a few hours ago. I really liked it. Major spoilers below. I really loved the new guards, so sad to see some of the guards from s1-3 in ordinary jobs. Poussey. Really loved Susanne's backstory, heartbreaking. Lol at Daya, the worst character in the series, getting the gun cliffhanger. I really like a lot of the new characters, especially Piper's new Hawaiian henchwoman whose name I don't remember

Loved it. Poussey. Can't believe they killed her off, she was one of my favourites. The finale was a beautiful love letter to her, I was basically crying throughout the whole episode. The last shot of her smiling killed me. RIP girl. Really hated all the new guards, like every single one of them were horrible people. And I guess I was supposed to hate them, but they were so fucking awful, I didn't even enjoy them as villains. I just wanted them all gone. S4 was a lot darker than all the previous seasons. I loved it, but some of the stuff was really upsetting, especially towards the end, it became kinda difficult to watch. The cliffhanger ending was a bit unnecessary, though still pretty cool.

I've watched three episodes so far. One thing that bothered me last season and is bothering me even more this season The "board" in charge of Litchfield are so OTT they are almost a parody or satire or something. I just can't take their money grabbing shenanigans seriously at all. Aside from that though I am really enjoying it

I started watching 4x01 but then I decided to do a complete rewatch. Or at least a Season 3 rewatch. I don't remember it very well.

I watched the first two episodes last night. "Last Resort" playing during that last scene in the first episode. Piper is still annoying AF though. I can't watch her without cringing.

Just watched episode four, and... Nikki! Yeah Piper has always been really terrible on this show. I think her lowest point for me was her "speech" in season 3... Quick mentions on stuff from the first four episodes My heart breaks for Sophia and I liked that Gloria was the one who told her wife. Shows some remorse for what happened last season. Not-Gregor-Clegane is a bit intimidating but he seems like he is just very strict/thorough with his job rather than being a creep, like Healey is. Morello and Vinnie's "sex scene" in the visitors room Also, Lorna continues to be hilarious all around (her sex shoe ) Red is on top form, and I'm enjoying Frieda, Alex and Lolly. Judy King is really irritating and I don't feel she adds anything to the show

I'm watching the new season a few episodes per day. My main impression so far: Piper needs to get parole or something, she was ok when at the beginning of the show, but now she has become kind of annoying and I just can't help think she should have paid her time by now. Why not let herleave? she is by far the less interesting character

I liked this season much more than the last one. The last couple of episodes made me terribly sad, but is believable after everything the season has built- Poussey They really showed how the privatization of the prison has had a huge negative impact in the inmates, not only are they overcrowed, which has created a huge racial division between the inmates, in part due to Piper's efforts to try to stop Maria from taking over her bussiness (but still, the branding was way more than Piper deserved), we also heard several times that solitary is full, which is scary and makes one wonder if some of the women there are cases like Sophia, who was sent there just so MCC wouldn't have to deal with her without even telling her ex-wife if she was really there. Sophia was barely in any scenes this season, but they managed to convey how terrible her situation regardless, the new guards suck, the only one I can barely stand is the female one. Sadly, that is what happens when the people in charge only care about saving money and don't even bother with some basic training. What that asshole did to Suzanne and Marizza makes me wish Daya would pull the trigger, the only reason I hope she doesn't is because I don't want her to spend the rest of her life in prison on account of that sadist. And even though I understand Caputo was in a complicated situation, what he did to Poussey sucked, as Taystee said, he didn't even said her name, he said that whatever the inmates said shouldn't be believed, he shat on the women he is supposed to take care for to defend Bayle. And while I understand that he just didn't want to make him a villain as MCC wanted, that doesn't mean his only option was to defend him at all costs without even talking abuot Poussey. Asshole.

Enid What Caputo should have done in a better world, IMO, is Condemn MCC for creating the circumstances which resulted in Possey's death, highlight how terrible the guards employed by MCC are, and how terrible conditions are. And focus on the tragedy of Poussey's death. He was right to exonerate Bayley though. That added to the whole tragedy for me, making the one half decent guard be the one who actually kills Poussey. I don't think he was at fault, though I can understand Taystee's anger at Caputo defending him

I don't think he was at fault, though I can understand Taystee's anger at Caputo defending him Agreed. I don't blame him for protecting Bailey, he didn't deserve to become a sacrifice just so MCC could wipe their hands of the situation they created by sending too many inmates and hiring guards that either have no experience and don't know how to deal with difficult situations like Bailey, or war veterans that also don't get any training even though they don't see the inmates as people because is the cheapest option.
It was clear that Caputo would have to make a choice, either explain how MCC actually runs the prison and treats the inmates and lose his job, follow MCC's plan and turn Bailey into a villain, or gloss over Poussey's death and who she actually was. Of the three, he chose to turn Poussey into a nameless casualty, and defended Bailey to the point of trying to stop any other account of the facts from getting any credibility using the inmate's past crimes as a reason not to believe anything they said. And that was a shitty thing to do.

Yep, agreed with you Enid. And can I just say how pleased I was we still got to see Fig this season?

I'm half way through the season. Still hate Piper(who needs a real plot line besides her panty business, growing paranoia, and now her "carer" group turning into a white power group), hate the new guards, and hate Linda.
I feel like we are not seeing as much of the cast as we used to. I am guessing to allow them time to work on other things. Lea De Lauria (Boo) has album of Bowie covers that she did and she was touring for that (she's a wonderful singer if you have not heard her).

Here's Lea DeLaria singing a jazzy version of The Ballad of Sweeney Todd. It's awesome.

I just finished episode 10 last night. I actually felt bad for Piper in these last few episodes. I forgot what that felt like. I'm really over Aleida's story of being out of prison. I think it's very true to life, and how hard it is for inmates after they leave, but I just never cared for her character enough to want to follow her through this.

Has anyone else found the season more chilling in light of recent events, or is it just me? It sort of brought home to me that the attitude of the guards and white supremacists really wasn't too OTT as I first though

I think this season has been pretty educational. I've got one ep left now. Lolly Poussey
