So, some of us have been waiting nineteen freakin' years to get this scene (and still don't have it in the books). Being introduced to Tyrion in Book 1, learning about his interest in dragons, his reading about dragons, his talking about dragons--and then reading about these young Targaryen siblings somewhere on the other side of the world, their story seemingly having nothing to do with the Westeros families and their stories... well, it seemed inevitable that there would be a meet-up sometime down the line. (Books=still waiting, 19 years and counting...)
And now, we have it. Finally. At last. Tyrion meets Dany, they talk, they negotiate. And I loved every single moment of it!! Tyrion is back to being Tyrion, smart, smart-ass, politically astute. Dany seemed more level-headed, realistic, actually willing to listen, than we've seen yet seen her up to this point. Anyway, it's been a long wait, but it's happened and I loved it. Your reaction?

I thought it was great, though I really wished we could've heard Tyrion's response after she said she was going to break the wheel. (Though I understand why they ended there)

Like I said in the other thread, there was a great integration between the two. Tyrion didn't speak down to her or tried to outwit her, it was a discussion amongst equals which Dany get precious little of. She needs people to challenge her, it's good for her and it makes her better.
Also, Dany added the Targaryens to the spokes on a wheel speech.

Absolutely perfect scene. As I posted in the spoiler discussion thread, I think each of them is really going to come into their own from here on out - in a big way. They'll be good for each other that way.....except.....as someone else pointed out, Dany's not going to be there after 5.10, so ?????
Alrighty then - time for the re-watch.

I really wonder what Tyrion will do in 5.09 and 5.10 though.

Well said Iheartseverus! Exactly how I felt while watching the two tonight .... FINALLY. Damn. It's been a really long wait to see what would happen when Tyrion met Daenerys and if they'd be a good team. I remember arguing it to death long ago on that-forum-whose-name-shall-not-be-spoken and always there was some negative nancy who said it made no sense and why would Dany even give a Lannister the time of day and Tyrion was overstepping himself and on a suicide mission, blah blah blah.
I'm just so damn happy the show writers saw it the way many of us have hoped for and played it out that way. Tyrion, still cocky and witty but not going too far with a Queen he knows nothing about yet. He played it so well and she seemed to really eat it up. I think he's the first person she's ever met who is willing to just lay it all out there in cold hard facts and not try to either bully her or butter her up.
Really really a great scene in fact I'm going to go watch it again! I have a feeling I'll watch this episode a few more times in the coming week, haha! Amazing episode. Really. Best they've done.

I loved it. It's one of the things I'm most looking foward to in the books, so it's a big deal to me. Thought the scene was perfect, with both actors delivering. I remember before the the season some people were saying the wheel speech sounded like another "mad queen" rant, but I thought Dany came off looking quite well. She even included House Targaryen.

I didn't really love this scene, in my mind I was picturing something more awesome.

I think if you re-watch it and see it from the perspective of two individuals from such different backgrounds but with a common goal of humanity and what's 'fair' in life - it makes more sense. They were stiff and formal with one another and I think that was intentional ... remember that up until now, everyone who has surrounded Dany has been formal and bowing and scraping to please her. She's not used to letting down her guard or acting 'normal' at all, and Tyrion's used to bullshitting his way through everything with a lot of snarky comments. Being subtle and frank are new things to both of them so it was an awkwardly stilted discussion.

I thought it was great, though I really wished we could've heard Tyrion's response after she said she was going to break the wheel. (Though I understand why they ended there) True enough. Because really the only response Tyrion would have afterwards would be "What exactly do you mean by that?" and they obviously aren't ready to tell us the answer yet.

Enh, I never put a lot of stock in Dany's dramatic speeches. She's had a couple of them and they always make me think she's being a bit of a 'drama queen' so to speak, haha. To me, Dany is at her best when she just does things rather than talk about them. She refused to tell Jorah what her real plan was by stepping onto Drogo's pyre though you get the feeling she knew she wasn't going to die. She never let anyone in on the true plan when she 'sold' Drogon to Master Kraznys in Astapor and she didn't tell anyone she was taking them to dragon lunch buffet in her most recent trick either. Seems to be Dany falters when she listens to the advice of others whether it's bad or good advice. That's why taking on Tyrion to advise her is a big deal. She's had some truly shitty advice recently (especially from Daario, ugh)

I really enjoyed these two finally meeting and I have to wonder how it will play out in the books. As I said in the episode discussion thread, I think these two will be really good together but will inevitably split up. I mean they want different things, right?

As I said in the episode discussion thread, I think these two will be really good together but will inevitably split up. I mean they want different things, right? Do they? Want different things, that is? I think that not only did we see two people with very similar backgrounds bond, but we also saw two people with similar visions for the future decide to work together. Tyrion actually cares about not screwing over the smallfold but he's pragmatic enough to understand that you can't do that without the wealthy and influential. Dany is all about caring for the smallfoolk but still struggles with the idea of working with the wealthy and influential when their interest don't align with her. I think Tyrion will be able to show Dany how and what she needs to do to achieve her goals, but also advise her to do it in the best way possible. I think the fact that they share many similarities will become important in building their relationship.

I really wonder what Tyrion will do in 5.09 and 5.10 though. I've been wondering this also. 509 may not see another Tyrion/Dany one on one so he'll probably just be by her side until she flies. And honestly, who knows WTF is going to happen in Meereen in 510?

I feel like that's more something Daario would do than Tyrion, although Tyrion would obviously be the better choice to take over the temporary rule of Meereen.

Loved their interactions. Both scenes showed why Daenerys needs Tyrion if she wants to rule Westeros. Tyrion knows Westeros and how it works, he knows that Dany will need the support of the noble families, that the support of the common people won't be enough, and that Dany is being really naive if she thinks that the common people of Westeros will support her claim the second she gets to Westeros.
She is so used to be loved by the common people that she doesn't realize the people of Westeros don't live in chains, and most of them love their lords and their wardens more than they love the king, as long as those lords don't abuse their power. Of course being low-born during a war sucks, but still, both the Boltons and the Freys are despised by what they did to the Tullys and the Starks, things won't be different for Dany just because she has dragons and an army.
She does have a lot to learn.

Since the battle is out it'll be different. Maybe more Harpy stuff? I'd be really dumb if that's not resolved besides arresting Hizdahr.

The Harpies attack in full force at Daznak's and have everyone surrounded. So either Drogon arriving and laying waste to them ends the Harpy threat or Dany flies away and everyone else is taken prisoner. As the 2nd option seems pretty unlikely, Meereen will be sans conflict while Dany is away which is why I predict she'll be back in short order since nothing can progress there until she does.

The scenes last night between these two characters were just awesome.
Did Martin even confirm that the characters would meet up in TWOW? I feel like he said they might not necessarily meet up directly or something along those lines.
