They desperately needed to have a good Dorne scene and I think this was a much, much better one than anything that's been depicted so far. It was not perfect by any means but anything that doesn't make the Sandsnakes a walking joke is good. They've still got time to salvage things and we've now moved to the point where Doran will take centre stage so that should be good.

Was I the only one who loved the Bronn/Sand Snakes scene? I thought everything about it was brilliant. THESE are the snakes from the books (even if Tyene has the "wrong" look.) They use whatever is available to them to win (poison and boobs are more effective than weaponry if you weigh 100 pounds.) Tyene definitely was showing Bronn her boobs to get his heart rate up and spread the poison. I think she decided that she liked him and maybe could use him, so she gave him the antidote. It also makes perfect sense that someone who carries poisoned blades would carry antidote, in case she cuts herself or changes her mind about something. Anyway, I hated the Sand Snakes' first two scenes, so I was relieved to finally see them handled well in this scene. I disliked it because it felt so pointless. Like, "hey we haven't had boobs or minge in a few episodes, let's use the SS for that!". Having said that though, it was their best scene. Not that there was much competition, but it made me think that Tyene was maybe not as bad as I thought initially. Nym is still my favourite and Obara is still awful, but Tyene climbed a few rungs. (not because of the boobs, I'm immune to their power). And I agree about the antidote. I can understand why it felt like deus ex antidote, but I think if you're carrying around poisoned blades, especially if the poison is so potent/lethal, then you would be kind of dumb not to carry an antidote with you just incase you cut yourself. Or, in this case, decided that your victim was worth keeping alive.

Anyway, I think people read this scene more critically than they would have if the first Sand Snake scenes hadn't sucked so much. I liked the way the other two snakes responded to Tyene playing her game. They're much better actors than fighters. That's for sure. (But can we please stop having Obara tell everyone who she is all the time?)

While I enjoyed the scene (ummm... gratuitous nudity? *shrug* Sure, I'm there. Plus, she's the hottest of the SS.) my reaction was WTF was the point of that whole scene?! Still, so happy Bronn is still kicking!
And, I had the same general reaction to most of the episode. Most of it fell flat for me. Tyrion meeting Danny was gold. But the rest? *shrug* Meh.
Cersei's arrest seemed much more dramatic in the books. The HS springs things on her and after a moments hesitation to process things, she turns and sprints, only to then be cornered. Here she seemed to haughtily turn and stalk off before being captured. It just lost a great deal in the translation for me.

I found the episode entertaining and much better paced than others this season, but all of the major plot points are feeling rushed to me, especially the stuff with Cersei and the Faith Militant. It doesn't feel very organic. The actors are carrying it, but it lacks build-up and nuance. I'm not saying it couldn't be done better...I'm sure it could be, but I think much of this is showing the weakness of TV compared to a book when it comes to fleshing out and exploring complicated political situations. And some things I'm happy to see sped up...like Tyrion getting to Dany.

It would have been awesome if she had slapped one of the septas and then run away, but they would've captured her still.

They were watching the HBO marathon of the other episodes and then we all had to go outside because there was a flash flood (no biggie, right?! Austin TX for ya haha). We were standing around talking and watching the water go down the street and one of them mentioned they were missing the episode haha. So I jumped on the opportunity to grill them a bit. THEY love the sand snakes - go figure.

Also notice how he said they don't want to do a 10 or 9 year adaptation but didn't mention 8... I think they're pretty set on 7 - 7.5. I don't think 8 is very likely at this point, but you never know! I think season "8" will actually be considered the second half of a 16 episode seventh season. I eyeroll Benioff at times but his quote here was spot on. One of the smartest things they did this year was streamline both the Dany and Tyrion plots...as those were the worst of Dance of Dragons for me.

I understand why people feel strongly about D&D putting Sansa through this. I won't forgive them either, but I have to wonder why people seemingly give GRRM a pass for putting Jayne Poole through worse treatment. Some of thingshe wrote about Jayne are unspeakable. Is it because she's a Stark, and you're more attached to her characters? Just to clarify, I wanted them to find a credible way around the whole wedding night theatrics. I really hoped the show would skip Jeyne Poole altogether but I didn't mean Sansa should take her place either. I think Ramsey is awful enough with having to severely mistreat a wife. My problem is that it makes no sense to me as to why Sansa is there in the first place. And that Robb and Catelyn scene after Ned dies still brings the tears. Tommen did remind me of Joffrey in that scene and I immediately thought of Robb with the "I'll kill them all" statement. Uh-oh Tommen.

Have they already published the ratings of this episode? The controversy must have caused a boost.

It was on during Memorial Day weekend so it's probably more likely they went down like they have done every season they've aired on Memorial Day weekend.

I really do think we've reached peak Game of Thrones ratings. Fatigue always sets in the longer a show goes on, and there's only so many people that can afford a HBO subscription.

How much can be credited to the Sansa scene?

Probably very little. I don't believe that many of the people who said they'd quit did, and casual viewers don't really give a fuck.
