Beinoff on that monumental moment..."Creatively it made sense to us, because we wanted it to happen. They’re two of the best characters of the show. To have them come so close together this season then have them not meet felt incredibly frustrating. Also, we’re on a relatively fast pace. We don’t want to do a 10-year adaptation of the books, we don’t want to do a nine-year adaptation. We’re not going to spend four seasons in Meereen. It’s time for these two to get together. It’s hard to come up with a more eloquent explanation, but this just felt right. [Varys] puts Tyrion’s mission out there [in the season premiere] and the mission ends in Meereen."

For all the shit Benioff in particular gets, I like what he's said here. Tyrion and Dany almost meeting in the books was sooooooo frustrating. Like, being edged levels of frustrating.

I don't think 8 is very likely at this point, but you never know!

It's also an acknowledgement that the book and show audience is not fooled by what Martin has Dany doing in Meereen (spinning her wheels until he's allowed to get her and the dragons to Westeros in order to initiate the endgame).
"Let's get on with the important shit" is about as good of a way to put as I can think of.

During the rewatch this afternoon, the irony in Cerise's little speech to Tommen really jumped out. "No matter who you are, no matter how strong you are, sooner or later you will face circumstances beyond your control. Events that you couldn't possibly have anticipated or prevented, even if you had." She clearly never dreamed . . . And Tommen: "I will call in the army, I'll take back the sept and kill every last one of them." Not to imply that he's like Joff, of course, but those words do ring a bell, don't they? As did hearing Cersei scream, "I am the QUEEN", exactly like Margery had. Oh, how quickly it can all turn to shit. This one remembers me also of Robb crying in Catelyn arms saying 'I will kill them all'. And we all know how this turned out. I had completely forgotten about that! (Really a shame, 'cause I would be so happy if he had. 'Course, then, where would our story be?)

Finally someone has the balls to mention the 100 ton elephant in the room. Wonder what Martin thought about this quote I feel sad for him but, come on, the near misses and fake outs are indeed becoming frustrating.

I also hope that quote from Benioff is indicative of something happening with Winterfell also. Ending on a cliffhanger in the middle of the action would be much better than ending on a cliffhanger before any of the action even begins IMO.

I felt the same way, I was absolutely livid about how close it had come with nothing ... so the show has been hugely satisfying just in those last few seconds they showed Dany staring at Tyrion in disbelief (or shock?) It was YEARS of relief for me LOL! Speaking of the bit I highlighted in Jack's Benioff quote ... this just reminded me, wtf happened to Varys after Jorah took Tyrion from the brothel?? Perhaps he and Illyrio show up in Meereen before the end of the season to help pave the way for the plan next season getting to Westeros?!

He's disappeared only to reappear at the most opportune time. He'll probably resurface in KL and start killing people secretly just like in the books.

Yeah, that quote won't have any merits if they end the season without a conclusion to the Stannis vs. Bolton conflict.

I really enjoyed this episode, it was definitely one of the best of the season.
Seeing Sansa bruised and battered was so heartbreaking, whatever the outcome of her storyline is, I'll nerver forgive them for putting her through this. Also I was very disappointed that Theon went straight to Ramsay but it's not very surprising. I hope Sansa can snap him out of this soon. Fuck Ramsay though. I'm glad Sansa hasn't been completely deterred by what's happened and she's not afraid to sass Ramsay.
All of the King's Landing stuff was great. The final scene was done really well and Lena Headey and Jonathan Pryce knocked it out of the park.
The auction scene was hilarious, Tyrion beating up the guy was priceless. I'm interested to see how next week plays out once we get to see Dany talks to them, looking forward to seeing what Tyrion has to say.
Glad to see the Dorne material got better this week, although I haven't had much of a problem with it anyway. My only major gripe has been the way they introduced the Sand Snakes which was barely anything.
Sad to see Aemon go, he was one of the only truly good characters on the show. He'll definitely be missed. Regarding the the Sam and Gilly stuff, I'm not too happy that there was more sexual violence here but I can understand why they did this scene. I know they were trying to reinforce that Sam and Jon aren't well liked by most of the brothers and now that Jon's gone, there's nothing stopping them from doing what they want, I just wished they would have done it in a different way.
Really looking forward to next week! Hardhome is going to be epic.

I understand why people feel strongly about D&D putting Sansa through this. I won't forgive them either, but I have to wonder why people seemingly give GRRM a pass for putting Jayne Poole through worse treatment. Some of thingshe wrote about Jayne are unspeakable. Is it because she's a Stark, and you're more attached to her characters? Just to clarify, I wanted them to find a credible way around the whole wedding night theatrics.

Well because Sansa has her own story. she is not a minor character that can easily be injected into another person's storyline.

I had an interesting (maybe?) thought about the scene with Bronn and the Breasts Sand Snakes. Tyene obviously showed her boobs to Bronn to get his blood run faster, so the poison would do it's deed. But what if the antidote she gave him isn't permanent, but only temporilarily. That way the cringeworthy comic book villains could use Bronn as their sidekick.
Bronn will definately side with them instead of Jaime if his own life is at stake.

Was I the only one who loved the Bronn/Sand Snakes scene? I thought everything about it was brilliant. THESE are the snakes from the books (even if Tyene has the "wrong" look.) They use whatever is available to them to win (poison and boobs are more effective than weaponry if you weigh 100 pounds.) Tyene definitely was showing Bronn her boobs to get his heart rate up and spread the poison. I think she decided that she liked him and maybe could use him, so she gave him the antidote. It also makes perfect sense that someone who carries poisoned blades would carry antidote, in case she cuts herself or changes her mind about something.
Anyway, I hated the Sand Snakes' first two scenes, so I was relieved to finally see them handled well in this scene.
