Because when you have a character who is not raped in the books raped in the show and you bring rape to screen you better have a damn good reason to do that. So Cogman doesn't have to answer "sane trolls and incoherent ranting" but concerns of bringing something like this into the script in the first place. He gave an interview where he explained the reasoning. He doesn't have to engage with every fan on twitter as well. Not to mention that for the most part, no one trying to reach him through twitter is up for any kind of measured debate. It's rage turned up to 11. Why would you bother responding to those kind of people? If that's his entire reasoning then -

You don't have to like it but he gave his reasons. Was anyone going to be satisfied with the answer? Doubtful.

I'm curious if people honestly don't think the show will allow the Starks to get revenge. I mean, it's not happening immediately but obviously that's where the story's going. Agreed. People like to say that this series always lets the bad guys win, but that's only because it isn't over yet. We have to wait a really really long time for vengeance, and it's going to keep getting darker until we get there. Eventually via whichever Starks survive, Jon, and probably Dany and Tyrion will come out on top of the villains. Although I think the bittersweet part of that is that Jon and Dany will both die after becoming the heroes they're destined to be.

She was raped. I don't see how there's any debate. Marital rape is still rape. I'm completely agree. It's insane that some people don't think it is. After that long pause in the God's wood, when Sansa said she took Ramsey and he had that horrific smile on his face, I realized that Ramsey shares the same view of consent and marriage that a lot of people on certain fan boards do. That once you consent to marry a man, nothing he does to you after is rape. Ridiculous, dangerous, disgusting thinking. Consent is a negotiation that happens EVERY SINGLE TIME. I know y'all know that...just feel the need to reiterate.

I don't see why Cogman should have to answer the insane trolls and incoherent ranting he's bound to face on twitter after this episode. Because when you have a character who is not raped in the books raped in the show and you bring rape to screen you better have a damn good reason to do that. So Cogman doesn't have to answer "sane trolls and incoherent ranting" but concerns of bringing something like this into the script in the first place. I think you are being unfair. It was D&D's idea to marry Sansa to Ramsay, and what, you expect Ramsay to act like Prince Aemon in his wedding night?

Sati,
King Tommen already said what I was going to say, but I'd also like to add: Is Twitter really the best medium to be having such a conversation? 140 characters doesn't exactly leave much space for nuance.

Who says twitter? I said he should justify his actions I don't care where he does it. I simply hope he also happens to see what outrage him and his fellow writers created, and he can clearly see that on his twitter feed.

Sigh. How do people expect to have "real conversations" when they open with such brazenly hyperbolic statements?

Well, as King Tommen said, he did. I don't see how people complaining to him directly is going to change that. He's not a moron, he knows this was going to be a pretty big deal.

Ok. Frankly, I don't see what reasonable discussion there is to be had once we get to the point of just insulting the writers. Flaming anybody is petty.

How awful of me to think writers should have good reason for showing rape of a child on the world's most popular series. "hardened woman", my God...

We don't really know what the reason is yet. And I don't think there's anything wrong with the hardened woman comment in context.
I'm as cool as a cucumber on christmas Diablotion, me and the fair admin are just engaging in a spot of heated debate
