I think Carice's Mel is as intriguing. And not just because of her aforementioned frequent nudity (though how confidently Carice plays those scenes IS amazing and how she makes the clothed people in the scene seem like the vulnerable ones instead of her). There are many other aspects of her characterization that I really like though; she plays her without blinking for a start and moves with a particularly creepy composure. Also the matter-of-factness of her line delivery even when saying pretty nasty stuff. Her attractiveness is of course a major part of the character, I think she's GrrM's sexiest character actually and that translates onto the show very well, but it's certainly not my only reason for thinking showMel is great. Sorry, I think she is a psychopath with no depth atm I don't think she's a psychopath at all. Just a VERY extreme utilitarian. I think she's played with depth and we will see her doubts etc. later on in the season.

Oh I agree about her acting she's great. It's just I feel like they write her as straight up evil? Book Mel seems more gray, thanks to her POV chapter. For me, anyway.

I think the greyness will be addressed. In her last few s5 eps. and in s6.

For her to bring it up is one thing but if she actually tries or, R'hllor forbid (or in this case not forbid apparently) succeeds? Nope. Even if it does ressurect someone.

Well, I'm pretty sure she'll burn Shireen in TWOW too. But as of now I think Stan's big decision in 509 will be to send Mel back to CB, so I (at least as of now now) don't think that she'll get burnt just yet.

I'm trying to think, what's her opinion on Shireen in the books? Does she ever think of her as a possible sacrifice? I don't think so. Well not yet obviously, bit yeah I guess we'll find out in the show first what happens.

You really think Stannis will allow Melisandre to burn his only heir? Besides the humanity issues of a father killing his daughter... If wins the throne and dies. Just thinking ahead. Where does the crown go? I think Mel is nuts here. EDIT: Your avatar is hot man.

This has me thinking about something that I've wondered since we don't get a Stannis POV and he's so taciturn...is Stannis' main focus on being king because he's supposed to be king (duty, honor, family) or on Mel's goals of him becoming AA and saving the world? We know what Mel thinks is going to happen and what she wants, but WTF does Stannis want?

But Mel has certainly encouraged him to go for it.

Raise your hand if you think the title of episode 10, "Mother's Mercy" does not bode well for Shireen? *raises both.*

This line from 509's alternate summary on WOTW at least implies that Stan doesn't have a hand in whatever nastiness is being planned for Shireen. "Stannis (Stephen Dillane) confronts a troubling decision".

This wording leads me to believe Stannis confronts the outcome of a decision? i don't know... the othet thought is that maybe Selyse redeems herself and rescues Shireen

By the looks of it our concerns were appropriate. I'm going to miss this sweet little girl Good night, princess. Davos will avenge you.

So I was wrong in my expectations plainly. I always expected her to burn at some point and for Stannis to break before he bent at another point, but I didn't think they'd happen in this order. Still. If the scene works and the episode works, I'll be fine with it tbh.

I expected that Mel, Shireen & Selyse would leave for the Wall in some stage. I was very wrong.
Her song sounds so sad now.
