He also wrote this:
But it was in a post about Sante Fe so it may not be about the book.

Damn I saw some of this yesterday, the subreddit can get pretty bloodthirsty when they're on tenterhooks.
I would call this frustrating but I gave up the wait a while ago. Guy is only human and he's struggling like shit with his craft.

The ASOIAF redditors even seem to be finally turning against him on all of this and they've been his biggest defenders for years now. Myself I don't give enough of a shit to be indignant about this sort of thing anymore.

Also this is just about the most comprehensive answer he's ever given about this particular book, right? Suggestion is it could well be another year till we see anything.

Well, I'm glad to know Theon hasn't been killed off yet. That's what I'm choosing to take away from this completely unsurprising news.

I feel bad for him. That much pressure is not good for a man his age and it would be a shame if the quality of his writing suffers because of those deadlines. Well, at least we now know that he thought a few months ago that he should be able to finish it before 2016, which means that it can't be that long now (right?). I'm not concerned about spoilers personally, so whether the show spoils the plot or not, I really don't care. He also didn't list LSH among the characters who have been cut from the show. I'm probably reading too much into it, though.

George gave D&D the whole 'broad brush' enchilada in Santa Fe, well the next year he went over it again with D&D and Bryan. He has a couple of times (maybe more than a couple of times) he has mentioned show influences , kind of, from the show onto the story and he has also denied these too. I think there is influence on the writing now. On the other hand , as a reader, one could make a catalog of gordian knots in plot arcs with so many freaking many characters and locations. Well he is a good writer but he's going to have to think a lot about the nest he has made , lots of problems to solve. I hope this does not lead to a splitting of Winds like Dance did! One thing about it, Dreams of Spring, may not be published for 10 years after the show is done!

And whatever else the show does, I do think they won't change the endings and major twists, so it's not like we'll never find out what happens. But I'm sure the haters are probably enjoying getting to complain about him some more.

I love GRRM and I'm forever thankful for the world he created and for the first three books, but I must say I couldn't care less. I'm a fan of the show. To me the show is canon now and has been for quite some time. If HBO successfully tells the end of the story, I'll be more than happy. I don't care about the book series anymore. I hope that GRRM realizes that he has the chance to tell some version of his story on the small screen and goes back to writing scripts for the show. S7 and S8 would really profit from that.

I'm glad you said this before I did. But yeah, I don't really give a shit about ADOS and only sort of give a shit about TWOW at this point. I've always been a show-fan first and foremost and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I remember once some of the now-ranters and ravers acting like I'd admitted I was a sex offender or something for saying that over at AFOIAF but it's the truth. That's why I got into this fandom and when the show's through that's how I'll get out of it. The books were always supplementary material for me and I don't care that that's all they'll ever prove to be in the end.

Poor guy I bet segments of the fandom are cursing the fucking puppies all to hell In any case, I have said for ages that he's nearly finished, and if he thought he old do it in a couple of months then he is definitely nearly finished. 2016 feels likely now.

Yeah, I sure hope he doesn't take another season off from the show trying to write the books. His time would be better spent on something we can actually benefit from in this decade.

And sorry bae + Konrad, but I'm here for the books first and foremost I love the show too, don't get me wrong, but I hate the idea of never being able to read the end of this story in one of grrm's books.
