For some reason speculation of this nature is frowned upon on the Board That Must Not Be Named, so I thought we could give it a go here!
So when do you think it will drop? Are you an optimist? Pessimist?
I'm going to lean that it gets finished sometime in the first half of 2016, for publication Autumn/Winter of 2016. I'm hoping that George manages to finish it this year like he seems to think is possible, but other stuff he's said since has kind of destroyed those dreams, but you never know.

I think TWOW will be published within a year, I'll give it til.......March 31, 2016. Although, honestly, I do think there is a chance for it before this year is up. And, ya all can call me a sweet summer child if I am proven wrong. LOL

Didn't he also say he would (probably) be done by now if he hadn't taken a break after he finished ADWD? Maybe he's learnt his lesson and no break will be had once he finishes TWOW and ADOS will be with us quickly |

Yes, he did say that. He said he took 6 months off after Dance was done to promote the book and other obligations. He was on writing streak before that and lost his groove with the time away from it.

He was participating in Ice Bucket Challenge, blogging watching True Detective etc. Now it's the same announcement and what happens? He is doing something called Captain Cosmos and apparently he binged watched The Walking Dead |

I hate to be one of those fans that bitches about how long he takes to write his own book, but I can't help it. The time in between these books is insane and the dude has no focus.

I think recently he's come to some sort of realisation that's leading him to work more quickly. Like, he wanted the book done by the end of last year, obviously that didn't happen, but maybe that compounded with the very real risk of the show overtaking with season 6 was the kick up the butt he needed to get a shift on.
It's a shame though because if he had come to this realisation earlier and gotten TWOW finished at the end of 2015, he would have had 2 years to write ADOS and we would probably be getting his ending first.
Ah well.

I'm of the mind that he may be working on both TWOW and ADOS all at once, or.........getting over the first hurdle should help him speed through the next. I private messaged GRRM on his "Not a Blog" thing and told him he should write the script for several episodes in the last season and scribe the series finale (7.10 or 7.15?). I encouraged him to finish the story he started, even if his adaptation on the screen has to be slightly different.
I get why he's not writing an episode in S5 or S6 (because S6 starts pre-production soon), but he's gotta be done TWOW by this time next year if he's going to write episodes IMO.
I also told him it wasn't my idea, I saw somebody else posted it.

I've been kind of stalking George's blog lately. Like, about a month or so ago I noticed a severe dip in the number of posts he was making and internally hyped myself that he was posting less because he was close to finishing and he had disciplined himself or something.
Alas, it was not to be.

He has probably written 20+ pages worth of content on his blog about his issues with the Hugos or whatever. I feel shameful about it, but I'd wish he would just devote that type of energy into finishing his epic story.
