I don't think it comes out before Season 6. I just hope he can avoid the urge to retcon based on audience reactions. Stay pure, George, you slow-ass. Would he even be allowed to do that, though? Like, if there is mass-uproar when (well, if) Dany dies in the series finale and he decides to let her live in ADOS, HBO are going to be pissed. off. I imagine they'll have taken some kind contractual precautions to avoid that from happening. Maybe. They might be able to proceed on a quasi-contract theory and disgorge profits that he makes by publicizing any changes he made. It isn't likely, and I doubt they care at this point. This would work only if there's no language in the contract regarding changing the story. Given that ADwD wasn't in existence when they bought the rights, I doubt that the contract includes such language. We do know that he heavily changed ADwD after selling the rights. Therefore, he at least has the right to change stories if they lead to the same end. |

arthucus following that train of thought and after all this time wondering about that contract, I genuinely think that HBO and him put nothing on paper regarding who has the right to change, and what. My supposition is that it was done on good faith. Where Martin and probably HBO too, simply expected the books to be done. He came out a this summer with a new idea how to kill off a character. Sure it's not one that shows up in the show but honestly if the language was set in stone between the the two parties he should have had everything figured out, no? Changing it or coming up with something else doesn't seem to be a problem either for Martin or for Weiss and Brnioff so far. Not that all of this it matters but since the topic arose...

Guys: HBO won't give a shit what GRRM does in ADOS. The show will be long finished and the faithfulness of the adaptation won't mean anything by then. HBO will have it's billions to squabble over.
I'll say this that HBO will want to appease GRRM as much as possible for future shows (prequels, etc.)

So why would Maester Enjoys Having Written, Not Writing and his Non-Editing Editor want to keep quiet about this, rather spilling it via third-hand rumors at reddit ? Anyone ? |

So why would Maester Enjoys Having Written, Not Writing and his Non-Editing Editor want to keep quiet about this, rather spilling it via third-hand rumors at reddit ? Anyone ? You know the history behind these books better than I do so I'm sure you have the right of it. GRRM has been pretty clear that updates will come from his "Not A Blog" but I have no idea if the first draft should be treated as such. |

After the PR-desaster that was *Updating on aDwD*, GRRM decided that he would not give any updates on tWoW until he handed the manuscript in. Which brings us to another basic problem with that reddit entry: WTF does *first draft* even mean ? The whole thing ? Just the stuff he has written so far ? Some rough draft that would have to be 50% rewritten ? A first draft of many ?... You see where this is going. |

This is probably the truth of it. However, I do hope he submitted a partial (more analysis within the link), which would be a sizable step towards completion IMO.
