Lords of the North, Children of Dune, First Law Trilogy, Dune Messiah - Will I ever find time to sleep again? "Sleep is good," said Tyrion Lannister "but books are better." How appropriate! I'd forgotten all about that one. Isn't there info somewhere (the wiki?) on all of Tyrion's quotes?

Lords of the North, Children of Dune, First Law Trilogy, Dune Messiah - Will I ever find time to sleep again? I've read 3 of the 4 you have listed here so I say, no sleep for a while But they'll be great sleepless nights. And now I have to read Lords of the North so I can talk to you about all of these! There ought to be some sort of device that can keep our eyelids propped open when we can't stay awake any longer to read! ETA: Actually about 4 years ago when I'd first discovered ASOIAF and was reading one of the books on my Kindle, lying on my side in bed, I fell asleep and dropped my Kindle on the floor - cracked the living daylights out of it. I'd forgotten all about that.

There is a book that was published: The Wit and Wisdom of Tyrion Lannister.

I think I'm monopolizing the conversation here....and I do apologize. But I love to read and love to talk about books, that's my excuse.
Have just started a little group to read Women Who Run With The Wolves. It's going to be a chapter a month thing, so maybe by the time we're done, the rest of us will have The Winds of Winter. It's a reread for me, however my first read was 20 years ago (egad!). As a lover of fantasy, it's probably not surprising that I'm a lover of fairy tales and myths, too, and the author, a Jungian Psychologist, is a genius at pulling essential wisdom from each classic fairy tale.
Someone should write an equivalent book for men - perhaps it could be called Men Who Run With Ghost, Summer, Shaggy Dog, and Grey Wind.

Currently reading "Bellman & Black" by Dianne Setterfield. Was hooked by the summary on the dust jacket. I'm a third of the way in and enjoying the tale, even though we've still not touched on the mysterious events to come.

Finally finally finally able to get into The Wheel of Time. I had such a difficult time over the past year trying to start, I could never get through the initial chapters in Emond's Field, but once the Trollocs showed up and things started to get into gear, I've gotten hooked!

Finally finished God Emperor of Dune. It's probably my least favorite of the 4 I've read so far. It started strong, but the middle kind of slogged a bit for me. With a massive time jump between books 3 & 4 I definitely missed the characters from the earlier books.Good ending though.
Starting book 5 Heretics of Dune.

I've finished Girl on a Train - good thriller, very good character study, I gave it 7/10.
Right now I'm reading Luckiest Girl Alive and it's blowing my mind - best thriller since Gone Girl and I'm only 1/5 through it. I'm dying to read more tomorrow.
Both are gonna be adapted for screen too.

Has anybody read the Joe Abercrombie fantasy novels? I hear that they are pretty similar in quality to ASOIAF.

I just finished reading The Martian, and I loved that book so much. I can't wait for the film. Now I'm starting A Tree Grows in Brooklyn because it was recommended to me.

I'm almost through with the second book of Tales of the Otori series by Lian Hearn, and I've really enjoyed them, they've been hard to put down. First is Across the Nightingale Floor, Grass for His Pillow is next. There's a third, then a sequel, then a prequel. It's a fantasy series set in an imaginary medieval Japan - and there's magic!

I'm reading To The Power of Three by Laura Lippman. She's an author I'm really loving at the moment, this is my 4th book of hers. The summary is really shallow but the book has been really interesting.

Currently reading The Martian by Andy Weir. Incredible, incredible, incredible. Even if you're not really interested in sci-fi, you will enjoy this book. Highly recommend.

Has anybody read the Joe Abercrombie fantasy novels? I hear that they are pretty similar in quality to ASOIAF. I've read the First Law Trilogy and The Shattered Sea Trilogy. With First Law, I found the first book a bit too sluggish for my liking, although I was entertained enough by Glokta to keep going. Thought the rest of the trilogy was great. Glokta is disturbing and hilarious in equal parts. "Body found floating in the river..." Shattered Sea is decent too. Supposedly it's aimed at YA, but I couldn't detect a great deal of difference, except perhaps a little less swearing. Currently reading Two Years, Eight Months and Twenty Eight Nights by Salman Rushdie. About halfway through, and it's been pretty good so far, with some amusing lines and interesting concepts, but at times it seems to lose track and go off the rails a bit. After this I'm planning to read N.K Jemisin's The Fifth Season, which I have heard great things about from friends who've read it.
