I've also never seen any of the Alien movies either. Just the idea of something bursting out of a person's chest is too much for me. I don't need to see that shit. There's actually some wonderful psychosexual imagery and symbolism in these movies. Pregnancy and childbirth are a kind of parasitic metaphor, and the alien violates its victims in an almost sexual, predatory fashion. At the same time they are about the beauty and strength of a family unit. At the same same time the mere thought of it makes me sick so..

Honestly giving birth to the twins was kind of like Alien if Ripley was high AF (woo those epidurals WERE STRONG) and someone actually cut her open to let the alien(s) out.

I finished watching Big Fish & Begonia film that is a Chinese animated film.
The art in it look INCREDIBLE. It's like Spirited Away, but the art is very fantastic. How they did the character designs and the backgrounds look amazing to watch. I see as a trend for Chinese animation. I also read this interesting that this was done by the same studio who did Legend of Korra. That explains the similarity, especially the Chinese culture.
However, as much as the art is great, it's sad that this film suffers some CGI, blend characters and lackluster story. While the art is nice, they sometimes utilized the CGI here which isn't all that great to look at when comparing it to to other animation scenes. The characters and story are not interesting. Some of the logic here doesn't make sense and there's a bunch of plot holes. But i absolutely hate the main character cause she come across so blend, forgettable, and she lack character development.
It's sad that if the films improve on the story and characters, then it would receive much popularity like Spirited Away. The art is the only redeeming quality in this film.

I thought I was going to be more excited about this trailer. Isn't Zac Efron in this movie? Hugh Jackman is charming...but Efron is usually a hard pass from me. Okja dropped on Netflix today. Going to give it a try, looks good from the trailers . edit: was absolutely marvellous, well worth the watch. Beautifully shot, moving, interesting story, great acting. 5/5 Glad to hear it was good. Hopefully the husband and I will check this one out this weekend!

Both Snowpiercer and Memories of Murder are really good, but the Host is his must-see movie in my opinion. It brilliantly fuses creature feature and family dramedy genres with surprisingly endearing results:

I just watched I Am the Pretty Thing that Lives in the House and I am shook. A very slow film from the director of the Blackcoat's Daughter that is both unsettling and artistic. The mise-en-scene in this movie is fantastic, but its ambiguity and pacing is sure to frustrate many viewers. I got up at one point to lock my bedroom door and for the first time all year I think a movie might give me a nightmare. The best horror movies have a unique cinematic language, and this movie was very poetic in its narrative style, it kept me guessing and unnerved and I was almost annoyed when the credits started rolling, but I have a feeling that I'll be back watching it a second and third time to try to unravel the puzzle of a nightmare this movie left rattling around in my head.

Just watched a Spanish thriller titled Contratiempo (the English title is 'The Invisible Guest') and it was PHENOMENAL. HOLY. SHIT. That ending. Honestly one of the most satisfying endings I've seen in a movie. It was essentially ten minutes of pure goosebumps. And the music, so good. It's hard to talk about it without spoiling, and this is definitely a movie you want to see without knowing anything. The twists and turns are what makes it so much fun. It's on Netflix, go watch it.

Baby Driver was great! Kind of a predictable premise, but shit got very real in the third act. Very familiar characters (the cute, spunky waitress, the mob boss, the gangster and his crazy girlfriend, etc, etc) but they still stood out. Eiza Gonzalez is very hot.
