Watched Get Out tonight. Loved it. <3 Not sure it deserves its 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it was definitely one of the better horror movies I've seen recently. Man, what a weird movie. But I think the weirdness actually worked to its advantage, because I don't know if the plot would have worked if they had played it completely straight. Overall, I'd say it felt more like a dark comedy than a legit horror movie, but it was fucking brilliant nonetheless. Fucking loved that ending man, how Chris just casually murdered the entire family one by one. I don't like it in horror movies when the bad guys have seemingly super human abilities and are like impossible to kill, because they have to be that strong to create some suspense, but really they are just normal people. Not gonna lie, it was incredibly satisfying to watch them all die, the movie made me hate every single one of them with a passion, especially fucking Rose. Great actress though, the entire movie I thought she was lovely ... but the moment she showed her true face, I found her absolutely repulsive. Davey, you might want to check this one out if you haven't already. Pretty sure you'll love it. Daniel Kaluuya is bae.

Basil, pretty much everybody I know has told me I'd love Get Out, so I bought the bluray, and I'm on the fence between watching it ASAP or saving it for October.

Has anybody seen this? I've heard really good things, comparing it to slow burn horror films like The VVitch and The Babadook.

Davey, did you go see Alien? I want to hear someone else bitch about it

alien was bad it made prometheus less shit i have never seen any other alien movies Who the fuck watches parts 5 and 6 of a decades-long running franchise? The first two films are among the greatest genre pictures ever made. Sadly, I don't think they'll have the same impact for you partly because of the massive influence they've had over both sci-fi and horror movies since their creation, and the fact that you watched sequels that escalate their greatest qualities without the suspense or subtlety of their predecessors. You might appreciate the cinematography and set design of Alien, but it will probably seem slow and dated after watching Covenant.

Dayum this is so strange, came here to recommend this to you, saw it the other day. This movie is fucked up. Very minimal cast, low budget. I thought it was good. Kind of boring in the first half, but there are certain things that you need to pay attention to. It is a very understated movie in many ways. Also agree that Get Out was awesome, i saw that like a month ago and thought it was freaking weird but in a good way. I would watch it now, because if you build it up in your mind you might get disappointed.

I've never seen any of the Alien movies either ... but I'm pretty sure we've had that discussion in the past.

I've also never seen any of the Alien movies either. Just the idea of something bursting out of a person's chest is too much for me. I don't need to see that shit.

There's actually some wonderful psychosexual imagery and symbolism in these movies. Pregnancy and childbirth are a kind of parasitic metaphor, and the alien violates its victims in an almost sexual, predatory fashion. At the same time they are about the beauty and strength of a family unit.
