They just announced a DLC episode for the FF7 remake featuring Yuffie. And yes, those are Deepground soldiers and the guy at the end is Weiss. From all the games from the FF7 compilation to intergrate into the remake, I can't believe they went with Dirge of Cerberus. It's not only easily the lowpoint for the series, it is also Nomura at his absolute worst. Jesus fucking Christ.
The remake made it pretty clear that the compilation is canon to some extent, but I just really, really hope they keep all that stuff quarantined within whatever DLC episodes they plan on releasing in the future. It would fucking kill me if they decided to incorporate elements from the compilation into the main storyline of FF7, like the party getting sidetracked fighting Deepground, or worse: Genesis showing up. I loved the first part of the remake, but if they go full-on compilation in future episodes, it might kill it for me.

I started playing Elder Scrolls Online and it's pretty fun. The combat is pretty unique, reminds me a bit of Guild Wars 2 with spells tied to weapons, and I'm having a blast exploring everywhere. A big drawback of a low of MMOs is the writing, but ESO seems to have it down. I hope it isn't at the expense of the end game content though. The monetization model is pretty interesting as well, you get your sub price back in the premium currency every month.

Jeff Kaplan has left Blizzard. Honestly pretty heartbroken about that. I'm not worried about the future of Overwatch, I'm sure the game will be fine with or without him, but as the face of the Overwatch team, he's impossible to replace. What an absolute legend.

I'm sad to see Jeff go! He was the face of Overwatch.. I'm not sure if it bodes well for Blizzard with their long term, top talent ditching.. Hopefully Warchief Gaming (the new studio Metzen and Co have set up) does well. ----- NieR Replicant remaster came out last week. I can now firmly say NieR is my favourite gaming series of all time. Yoko Taro has such a way with telling a story, writing the ending first and working his way back, and giving you difficult, heart-wrenching choices. Having played Automata first, I was spoiled somewhat as some characters make an appearance and tell you their backstory, but other than that it was nothing but amazing. The OST is sublime, the side quests are rewarding and the main story is interesting and gut-wrenching at times. I imagine these characters will stick with me much like the characters in Automata did. It's crazy that this series spawned from the joke ending of another game (Drakengard) and is as good as it is. The only downside is the repetitiveness. To get all endings, you have to play the second half of the game 4 times (once you compete all side quests you care about, you can just speed run through the dungeons). Automata somewhat fixed that problem of the series by letting you load into certain points you've previously played. Usually the first and second playthroughs of the same content are rewarding - where you get a different perspective, or unlock some (like understanding a new language and getting to hear previously unknown dialogue in a cutscene)new dialogue. Third and fourth I just button mashed since I had seen it before until I got to the new endings. Highly recommend the series (Replicant or Automata) to anyone who likes RPGs. I also love this quote from Yoko Taro (about the world post 9/11 and Iraq War) regarding why he makes this series in such a way - "The vibe I was getting from society was: you don’t have to be insane to kill someone. You just have to think you’re right. So that’s why I made Nier a game revolving around this concept of “being able to kill others if you think you’re right,” or “everyone believes that they’re in the right." I would link my actual favourite song from the OST, but it, annoyingly, has a very spoilery name. So I'll link this instead.

Today is Resident Evil Village day! I'm probably gonna play all day and try to beat it in one sitting, to be honest.

RE Village looks great.
Thirsty gamers wanting a giant vampire lady to step on their face was the best free advertising I think any company has ever got.

Yeah, I saw that on twitter. I was pretty sceptical at first to be honest, but as I understand now, cross-play between console and PC will only ever happen under very specific circumstances, i.e. you basically have to queue with a team where at least one person is on PC and one is on console. If you're queueing with people who are all playing on the same system, or if you're solo queueing, cross-play won't affect you at all. Probably a good thing for the health of the game then, though had they made cross-play mandatory or, worse, random, it might have definitively killed Overwatch for me in all honesty. I can't imagine anything more frustrating than queueing up for a few casual rounds of Quick Play in the evening, only to go against a PC Widowmaker who just obliterates my team because she's using mouse and keyboard. I don't play Overwatch as much as I used to these days. I made it to GM a couple of seasons ago basically by one-tricking Zenyatta, and that's where my motivation to keep playing competitive mode ended. I feel like I've beaten it. Nowadays, I play maybe once or twice a week for a few hours and pretty much only Quick Play, because I love how casual and non-committal Quick Play is and how it doesn't punish you for leaving mismatched games. I have also completely lost any faith in Blizzard's balancing team. It's absolutely baffling to me how McCree and Baptiste can stay so ridicilously overpowered and meta defining for like half a year at this point, and Blizzard is not even attempting to fix that. But it made me realize one thing: the only way to enjoy this game in the long run is to play it casually and to just forget about competitive. Because when there is one hero like Bap, who is so strong that he makes all other supports obsolete, so strong that plat players can make it to GM one-tricking him, simply because his kit is so ridiculously overpowered, it makes you realize that there is no integrity to the competitive aspect of Overwatch. If you're playing the meta heroes, you climb, and that's all there is to it. It's pretty disheartening honestly, but I guess that's what the game is now.

Also Resident Evil Village was fantastic. It took me about two weeks and four full playthroughs to platinum, and I enjoyed every second of it. Compared to RE7, Village isn't particularly scary. It's a very campy kind of horror, as opposed to RE7 which felt more like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and was legit terrifying at times. This one probably won't scare you, but it's a wild ride nonetheless. There are just so many great locations to explore and colourful, over-the-top characters to meet. And yes, Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters are the best part of the game for sure, though you gotta admire the balls on Capcom to feature them so heavily in all the promotional material, when they're in the actual game for like two hours tops. And that is probably my biggest critique with the game. It's very episodic, the eponymous village serves as your hub area and from there you go off in different directions to several different locations, each telling its own unique story and focusing on different aspects of the gameplay. And unfortunately most, if not all, episodes felt a bit too short overall, like there were pieces missing. Especially the castle where you meet Dimitrescu and her daughters, that could have easily been two or three hours longer and I think it would have benefited the overall experience so, so much (heck, they could have made the entire game just the castle and people would have loved it). But unfortunately, it ends prematurely and kind of abruptly, leaving you in disbelief that it's already over. It says a lot about the Dimitrescu family as characters though, that despite of how short their section in the game was, they were still so incredibly memorable and left such an impression on the players. The game has got tons of replay value, a lot of new stuff and new weapons to unlock, but that first playthrough, that's the one you'll never forget. The exploration, the tension of not knowing what's behind the corner, that's something you'll only get once, and my first playthrough of Village was probably my favourite out of all the Resident Evil games I've played so far. Yes, there were section that I really wish had given me more, but it's still a 10/10 game for me. Also, somehow Village turned Ethan into my favourite Resident Evil protagonist. He was so bland in RE7, but I absolutely adore him in Villge. Poor guy, he goes through so much shit in both games, I just want to give him a hug. I can't belive how much I have come to love this entire franchise over the last two years, holy shit. Like this is legit my favourite gaming franchise now, how did that even happen. Fingers crossed that Capcom's gonna announce DLC episodes on E3.

I’ve been trying to save money but I think I might have to cave and get Village 😩 Do it! Though I would recommend playing RE7 first, because Village is a direct sequel to it. You might be a bit lost if you've not played RE7.

By the way, if you really plan on picking Village up, I'd strongly recommend to go with Hardcore difficulty for your first playthrough. Believe me, if you play on Normal or Easy, you might as well watch a playthrough of the game on YouTube. Hardcore in this one felt like what Normal is in all the other games.
As I said, your first playthrough of any Resident Evil game matters so much. Those games are all about exploration, the tension of not knowing what's coming next, survival against overwhelming odds ... and in Village, the only way to get that authentic Resident Evil experience is to play on Hardcore. Every other difficulty below that will end up feeling like Call of Duty after a while, as survival, resource management and ammo conservation are virtually non-issues.
I've played Village so much that it's become routine. At this point, I could literally beat the entire game on any difficulty within like two hours while simultaneously texting and listening to a podcast. That's the curse of the Resident Evil franchise, in a way all the games are one-hit-wonders. You can still find enjoyment in subsequent playthroughs obviously, but the first one matters most. That's why it's so important that you go with a difficulty that actually compliments the kind of game this is, instead of undermining it by just straight up turning the whole thing into a first person shooter.

Squenix announced a Final Fantasy spin-off and it legit feels like a budget Xbox 360 title from 2008. It looks hilariously bad, what the heck.

Capcom just announced that they are working on Village DLC, but nothing concrete yet, only that it's in early development.
At this point, I really think that they didn't plan on releasing any DLC for Village initially, but because Lady D. has reached such a godlike meme status, they just had to do more with her. That's why they didn't show anything beyond that initial announcement - because they don't have anything yet.

Elden Ring does exist and GRRM confirmed it's a Dark Souls sequel. That part may not be true, but still...
