I need to rant about this article on Girls' final season. www.hollywoodreporter.com/features/goodbye-girls-as-lena-dunham-cast-execs-overshare-show-oral-history-970777It's actually pretty good until the end. I didn't like how Zosia and Lena semi threw Adam Driver under the bus. I would normally agree with "it's harder for women in Hollywood" but their example is kind of bullshit. They're saying they have to fight harder for roles while Adam gets Star Wars. I'm sorry, but I think it was probably way harder for a guy that looks like Adam Driver to land Star Wars then it would be for two "classically beautiful" women with famous parents to land roles in movies. It sounds assholey, but it's true.

I certainly don't feel like he's had it easy at all...

stoneheartsrevenge Driver has never had it easy. Every interview with him always seems to call out his looks. It's like they're saying "hey, this dude's face is ugly but he's got a nice body and is a good actor" lordcarson is right, he acts circles around everyone else on that show.

It sounds assholey, but it's true. I couldn't get into Girls largely because I hated Driver's character SO MUCH and it bled into how I felt about the actor (I'm over that). It was clear though, as time went on, that he was the best actor in the whole cast and was going to be a movie star. But here's the thing...it's not like it happened for him overnight...he was taking a wide variety of movie roles and most of them---outside of Star Wars flopped. And I would argue, he was the best actor in Force Awakens. Zosia and Lena did semi throw him under the bus, even if that was not their intent. Many male actors also get type cast as their TV characters (see John Krasinski, who is a very good actor and can do more then just Jim Halpert) too. Driver might not have movie star good looks, he's probably never going to be a "leading man" but I see him as a character actor who will have a long career. Driver steadily worked during Girls playing characters who were different then his Girls character. They are not wrong in saying it's hard not to be typecasted as your TV character but to throw Adam as having it easier into the conversation was a shady thing to do.

They didn't need to do that. Honestly in Zosia's case, she was already playing Shoshanna in several movies. I just think it's crap they decided Adam won't get typecast because of his penis, and not because he's versatile. You don't always have to bring a dude down "because feminism." And I say that as a feminist. lol Not to mention it was hilarious that this article came out, and right below it in my feed there was one about how Jordan Peele thought Allison Williams was perfect for Get Out.

It's on Netflix, it's about a hero that is so powerful that he faces an existential crisis because he can't find any opponents that are worthy of him. Here's a trailer but it doesn't do the show justice for how funny it is:

I watched the first three episodes of 13 Reasons Why. I'm enjoying it, I guess, but I'm not in love with it yet. It's so slow, and I can't say that I'm really invested in any of the characters so far. It also feels predictable, I'm pretty sure I know where it is going ... Hannah was raped by someone, my money is on Bryce. The entire premise of the show is kind of weird. Suicide is a difficult topic to talk about, but so far this show treats it like a revenge fantasy, which I have problems with. I don't know, I'm conflicted. My brother said it was brillaint, but I don't see it yet. Dylan Minnette is handsome.

I know a couple of people who committed suicide and it just hits way too close to home for me.

Suicide is a difficult topic to talk about, but so far this show treats it like a revenge fantasy, which I have problems with. I don't know, I'm conflicted. My brother said it was brillaint, but I don't see it yet. Dylan Minnette is handsome. It does have issues with pacing, can't deny that. I mentioned to Queen Carol that each episode would benefit from being 15 minutes shorter. I didn't find the premise too unusual - it was a lot like "An Inspector Calls" but giving a bit more insight into the poor young woman herself. Execution is different, but similar ideas. An Inspector Calls is about a detective who comes to this family's house one evening after a young woman commits suicide. Throughout the play he reveals how each member of the family brought her to that desperate point. I've seen others say it's a show that glorifies/romanticises suicide. Which I don't get at all. But I can kind of see your point about revenge fantasy. Without being too spoiler-y I'd say there is an element of vindictiveness in the show, but by the end of the show I felt it was clearly not the message that was being pushed. Like Kingeomer with the book, the show hits close to home with me for various reasons. So it was a difficult watch but I did connect with it on a personal level

Okay, so I watched a few more episodes and I still don't know how to feel about it.
On one hand, I do like Hannah as a character a lot, and my heart breaks for her. But on the other hand, I don't like the blaming of random people in her life who at one point or another were shitty to her. Like, I don't know, if that is all this show is, if there's nothing more to this story than just assigning blame, I'm going to be pretty disappointed.
But maybe there is a point to all this that I'm not seeing yet, maybe there is a big reveal that will put everything in perspective ... I hope.
I'm enjoying it, but it makes me go through very conflicting emotions.
Also, I'm still trying to figure out what Tony's deal is, I still lowkey expect that he is not a real person, but Clay's mental projection or something like that, Tyler Durden-style.
