So, I watched it again. Some thoughts... I'm not so sure Dolores was programmed to kill Ford at all. She might have just decided to do that on her own now that she is aware she is conscience. Of course, Ford made her able to make that decision, gave her a template for it, in fact. She is the Judas Steer! I do think Ford is dead dead. This was his big exit. First he made sure Dolores was ready for the next step...taking over Westworld with the other hosts as a new species. Then he symbolically passed the maze to Bernard and explained why he had done what he did and wished him luck, because he knows Bernard is the one who will help Dolores now. He went out with a giant bang. I do think Elsie and Stubbs will be back, as well as the MIB.
Dolores' face just after shooting Ford was so amazing. Throw the acting awards at ERW.
Question: did Ford program Maeve to come back for her daughter or was that her choice? They intentionally stopped Bernard from telling us what she was programmed to do after getting to the train. Ford's voice-over about making choices played while she was making that choice.
Observation: Thandie Newton is two years older than I am. Light brown don't crack, I guess.

I was team Thandie all season, and I still think she had a phenomenal performance, but can we talk about ERW's confrontation with William? That performance gave me chills she was so good. How do they work out who is lead versus who is supporting on a show like this? I noticed that Evan was in the lead actress category for some other award so presumably it's the same for Emmys. But I wondered how they decide she is lead while, for example, Thandie Newton is supporting. Both seemed to get similar amounts of screentime. I would agree with your list though, adding Thandie to the supporting actress category. I feel like Westworld is just going to sweep the Emmys this year (even more so because it won't even be competing against Thrones). Really hoping it gets the award for its soundtrack too. Oh Dolores shooting Ford is not programming at all. That was the whole point and the sacrifice - this time Dolores kills a person not because she is made to but because she wants to. I don't think this has been telegraphed well - Nolan should have this one time do the rapid flashback thing with Dolores remembering all rapes, the killings of her family, herself dying. Did she kill Ford because he put her in this loop (although it was key to her freedom - the suffering, also she has been wiped every day so she wasn't suffering as a human being would) or was this symbolic killing of her maker? Nolan tries to be all vague here same as with dodging questions about Ford and it's not doing him or the show any favors. Not every single character development needs to be hidden in a cloud of mystery. I think it was her choice. Even Ford had no way of knowing she will sit opposite that kid which was what triggered her to leave |

what a finale!
So Dolores has finally figured out the key to the maze, and she understood what Ford wanted. She killed Ford to realise Arnold's dream, which became Ford's. Which is for artificial intelligence to become so advanced they develop a kind of faux consciousness that makes them human. He wanted the park to be self sufficient, for the robots to have no narratives but make up their own! Shame to say goodbye to Anthony Hopkins though.
I think this whole thing with Maeve was both a test and a distraction. Ford new he couldn't get away with his plan if the control center was aware of a bunch of robots creeping up on the event. The test for Maeve was to see if she showed humanity and was able to deviate from her coding. She passed the test. I think Ford new she would be drawn back, the plan was never for her to truly escape. I think Maeve is also conscious now or close to it.

Took me way too long to realise Maeve had to kill herself via fire so Sylvester and Tweetie-Pie could rebuild her without the explosive charge. That was pretty cleverly done.
My biggest disappointment I think was MiB. Not so much that he was William, but his whole obsession with the maze. Still doesn't make a great deal of sense if I'm really honest.

I could have watched so much more of Hector and Armistice versus the God Pussies. I noticed on the second watch that Maeve increased their "aggression" levels before she broke out. I loved Armistice's reaction to the machine gun. It was kind of cold how Maeve just fucking left Hector, though. Was it not!?! But I guess she had a mission and stuff.

so the whole show so far has been making it out like ford and arnold were pals before arnold went insane, but actually ford is the crazy ones.
maeve has me shook. when she was walking through the facility and they were playing that violin music and her face just wow.
wow. great show.
