I've watched the first two episodes, and I like it, but I'm confused by a few things. Granted, I've been drinking heavily both times I watched it, but what's the deal with the missing kid? Does one of the other kids look exactly like him? Or is he not missing at all, and just hanging out in the house with Winona Ryder? Mike, one of Will's best friend, sort of resembles him. He's definitely missing. If you do finish out the show, you will find out what is the deal with him, the house and Winona Ryder. I saw a post on tumblr and I wish I saved it that basically said that this show has three different motifs that have to come together to help resolve the problem: 1. Coming of age 80's story: Will, Mike, Eleven, Lucas and Duncan 2. Adults solving a mystery: Winona Ryder and the police chief. 3. Teen horror story: Nancy, Jonathan, Steve and Barbara.

I confused the missing boy Will with the little girl with the shaved head at first. When you first see her, she could be a boy or a girl. Maybe that's what confused you.

I finally finished them. Anyone else irrationally annoyed Nancy went back to Steve?

I was totally surprised by it. I kind of liked that they showed that the asshole high school boyfriend had a soul and even saved her. But I was glad we got to see him get punched in the face first.

I am on episode 6. I really hope they explain why 11 has powers. i kinda think that the government tear the door into dimension while using her to spy on Russians or something? that bath scene seemed to suggest that

Jonathan was a creep. I'm glad Nancy didn't end up with him, it plays too much into the geek gets the girl cliche. It made sense that they teamed up and helped each other, but romantically? No. I'm glad they avoided the stereotypical jock who only cares about sex route with Steve. It was nice to see him develop as a character rather than being a 2d cut out.

The way these things go with me I listen to the buzz until it finally gooses me to watch. Took a long time get me to watch the 1st season of Fargo and the 1st season of Mr. Robot. Comparing: 1st season Fargo 95 1st season of Mr. Robot 90 1st of Stranger Things 80
I thought this story was 4 episodes too long. The Teen soap opera horror story, I could have done with out it. I found the (cobbled from) Stephen King* Hawkins National Laboratory story quite awkward , maybe hurt by a limited VFX budget and a fragmentary story that had too many seams in it. Every bodies story had programmatic padding , way too much looping. Good ideas here that needs the kind of the kind of finesse Guillermo del Toro has, and the Duffer brothers are fans of his. Good cast , but the actors seemed to have to overcome some awkward directorial guidance , the show needs better directors ... and I would like to see tighter writing.
All in all I was entertained but only a half a cigar.
*By the by the Duffer brothers do flatter King by borrowing from his Psi-power stories ... but King borrowed those from Wilson Tucker's 1954 novel Wild Talent.

I really wanted Nancy to end up with Jonathan. I thought they had great chemistry and they were really good for each other, so I was pretty bummed out when they showed that she stayed with Steve despite everything. Those scenes where the boys were harsh to El were heartbreaking. I hated the idea of Jonathan and Nancy. The guy was taking photos of her undressing, which is awfully creepy. Sure, they made right in the end, but I didn't feel there was the connection between those two that there was between Nancy and Steve. I thought, like @witchy that the breaking of the trope with Steve and Nancy was well done. I did really like how they did so many homages to the 80s but managed to change things up to remove the cheesiness/silliness. one of my favourite scenes though (or combination of scenes rather) is the dress up "Pretty?" Scene, and the later "still pretty?" Scene. I was smiling and crying at that Jonathan was a creep. I thought Steve was a major asshole. I was on the fence about Nancy but her ending up with him really made me dislike her. He stood by while she was being written about as a slut in front of the whole town. That photo Johnathan took was nothing comparing to that. Fuck you Nancy I have so many questions: - what exactly was that black limbo 11 was in and how was it possible? and how did it manage to connect to Upside down? - what did the suits tell the chief? - why was the chief leaving 11 favorite food in the forest? Is he trying to lure her so she can come back? - why in this whole UD world there is only ONE monster?

This is the best thing that has ever happened to me today. They already look much older than they did in the show!
