I didn't even think about the way he looked in regards to him being real, I just kept noticing no one was really addressing him. Especially in the scene with Jamie where she looked at Richie like he was crazy when he made the "then it starts" comment. That was the scene that gave it away for me. My husband swore up and down that Ernst was not on the show before and I was like remember the scene when Ritchie met Devon...he was there with Ingrid? Husband: No...wait...oh...yeah... That was a great ending to the show, nice nod to Bowie. I wonder if we will see Bowie again with the benefit that Andie and Zach are working on? Now we know why Ritchie and Devon had the pact about no more drugs. Poor Ernst.

Yep. When a showrunner left the boat even before the first season is over, you know there are serious troubles.

My guess is that the show's more Mick Jagger's passion project than anyone else involved. And that he has to blame someone for the low ratings and he's not going to blame Scorsese. Thinking about HBO's recent modus operandi though, I don't think anymore that Winter rushed the ending of Boardwalk because of this project. I think the situation with Boardwalk was more that HBO would only give them a year to finish (like they're doing now with the Leftovers). That's what they're doing to shows of theirs that aren't doing as well as they'd like them to these days instead of outright cancelling them. Unless horses are dying on set that is and PETA's making a huge stink about it, but Luck was the exception to the rule here. They don't want another Rome or Deadwood situation on their hands where fans blame them for years afterwards for prematurely cancelling shows, so they give them an extra year for resolution. That's my guess of why Boardwalk ended as it did and I don't blame Vinyl for that. As for whether I'll keep watching, I pretty much have to. On principle. It's got Olivia Wilde, Birgitte and Juno Temple in it's main cast and I'm only human. I won't deny themselves their beauty out of loyalty to Winter.

Wow, I am shocked. I usually watch Vinyl on demand and most of episodes have a little recap that Winter does and he's really informative. HBO needs another show to be a hit (given that GoT is looking at either 1-2 season beyond season 6) and I think they had their hopes high for this one, given the subject matter and the talent on screen and behind the scenes. I guess, Winter wanted to stay the course and HBO probably wants it to have a more broad appeal? HBO has got to be sweating Netflix and Amazon pretty hard.

HBO needs another big drama. Aside from Game of Thrones, the only other two shows that get talked about a lot (since Leftovers is on it's way out) are Veep and Silicon Valley. They could bring back True Detective again. I didn't hate S2 as much as many did. This news makes me a bit salty though just because of how rushed the final season of Boardwalk Empire was. (On top of already being pissy at what happened to Harrow on that show. )

My husband LOVED Richard Harrow (I think in a boy crush kind of way, every time we see Jack Huston, I'm like there's your boo) and the way they ended that character made him so angry. And given what happened to Arnold Rothstien in real life, I am surprised the show kept that mainly off screen. That should have been a big deal: ONSCREEN. I think True Detective could rebound if Nic Pizzolato would allow a writer's room and not do it all himself. I just hope the new showrunner for Vinyl can take the show from good to great...but some shows suffer when the first show runner goes and some others, that are usually established, can keep chugging on with little to no problems.

Boardwalk keeping Rothstein's death off screen shocked me. At the very least, I expected a flashback to it, but just casual mentions? Da fuq? I was super pissed about Jimmy and I never imagined another death bothering me that much, Richard's did. I wanted him to have a happy ending. Out of all the people in this show, he actually deserved one.

Jimmy's death bothered me too. I thought there was a great dynamic between Jimmy and Nucky. Pitt and Buscemi had a good working chemistry but I think there were BTS rumors that Pitt was difficult on set. And yes, Richard deserved a happy ending. As for Vinyl hoping for the best.

Good finale, but I'm still worried about how the show will be next season without Winter.

Good finale, but I'm still worried about how the show will be next season without Winter. Yeah, same here. That might have been the best episode of the season, even without Olivia Wilde. Little skeptical about a new showrunner who's known for Bourne movies though. Not sure how many episodes he's been in, but I just now realized one of the cops is Eugene from The Sopranos. He's put on a few pounds. Liked the CBGB scene. Knew that's what it was as soon as Hilly started talking.

Yes, so did I! I liked the CBGB movie with Alan Rickman too. So that was a nice Easter egg.

I thought this was their best episode of the season. Loved the Hilly appearance.
Nice to see Richie competent in his job and seeing that he is good at what he does. The tension between Richie and Zak was well done. Ray Romano is so good in that role.
I do wish this show would develop their female characters. I'd like to see Jamie be less of a groupie and more of her learning what to do on the job (maybe a mentorship with Andrea, who desperately needs a storyline too). Juno Temple is too talented to waste in that role. When Richie fired her at first, I was like yay, Juno can get a better role but then she was just fired from the Nasty Bits and I just hope they do more with her. Let her experience with Kip and the Nasty Bits be a lesson as to what NOT to do.
As for Olivia Wilde she just announced that she is expecting her second child, so I wonder if a pregnancy will be written in for Devon or they'll film around it.
I'll quote Mr. Kingeomer-this show has a great cast, great set and costumes...they just need to find that thing that takes the show from decent to very good.

I'm surprised Devon wasn't in the finale. I really, really, really hope they develop Jamie more. I LOVE Juno Temple, I think she's such a fascinating actress. She needs more to do.

I am curious what Devon's role will be next season. Will they write her and Richie getting back together? Or will she go her own way? Wilde's pregnancy might have something to do with how available she will be to them, I suppose. Juno is too talented to be wasted in what they've done with Jamie so far. I'm hoping to see her talents be utilized next season.

I was talking to someone at work this morning about Juno in this show, and they were like "weird, I didn't know she had fans, I've never seen her before." Then I listed off her filmography like a mad woman.
