Finished season 5 of the Peaky Blinders, which is a pretty good season. Had no idea that Sam Clafin could play such an asshole!
Starting on the Aaron Hernandez documentary on Netflix.

Halfway thru His Dark Materials.
I knew not to trust Mrs. Coulter and her lip injections the second they showed her. I also guessed that she was Lyra’s mother. So since I’m 2 for 2, I’m gonna also guess she’s a witch. They said witches can separate from their daemons, and they made a point to show that Coulter can do the same.
Otherwise good stuff. I don’t really know what’s going on, but I think that’s the point.

Finished the Aaron Hernandez documentary on Netflix. It was good but they had no motive as to why he killed the one guy.
Started The Witcher, up to episode 5. So far it's good, I wouldn't say great but it's definitely holding my attention. It does embrace the high fantasy elements of the story for sure.

Finished His Dark Materials. No clue wtf was happening that entire show. It was cool tho. Really? It wasn’t particularly complicated and was explained pretty well - even more clearly/explicitly than in the books thats nice My only big hang up is not understanding Mrs. Coulter’s motivations, and being that she’s the main villain, I feel like I should. So she’s cutting the children away from the daemons because the Magisterium suspects this will rid the world of sin. Um...okay. But she doesn’t strike me as a religious fanatic, so nothing leads me to believe she actually cares about any of that. I think she’s just seeking power. Also the mother/daughter relationship is very toxic. They seem to manipulate each other at different parts of the story. Marisa is (through the daemons) violent with both Lyra and herself, so clearly she’s got issues. I think she just views Lyra as a possession, and that’s why she has some twisted maternal protectiveness over her. Or maybe I’m dead wrong? Also how is this Magisterum guy traveling between worlds. That was a big complaint from me- I don’t think I even know that guys name lol. As a subplot it was very undercooked. I liked the whole dynamic of will/his mom/etc but like...why are they here? These questions will prob be answered in a future season (has this been renewed?) but idk i feel like they should’ve been answered already.

Finished The Witcher.
Not a bad show. They do need to do more world-building and develop some of the characters better.

Over the holidays, I binged The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, which is something that I wanted to do for years. I honestly don't know why it took me this long. I remember back in the day (I'm talking like 15 years ago) my friends telling me how great The Last Airbender was, but for some reason, I never came around to watching it. Legend of Korra I started watching a couple of years ago, but only made it halfway through season one and for some reason, never picked it up again until now. And yeah, I really, really loved them. Like, a lot. Like, those are two of my favourite shows of all time now. I fell in love with the characters, the worldbuilding, the art style ... the brilliant comedy. Not that I ever expected it to be bad, but I didn't think that I'd end up loving it so much. It's an absolute masterpiece. Not gonna lie though, what makes me a bit sad right now is that both shows, in my opinion, didn't have the greatest of endings. They were cute and all, but both left off with many, many unanswered questions, unfulfilled character arcs and this lingering feeling that there are so, so many more stories to tell with these characters. That the short time we got to spend with them was only really the beginning of their journeys, and that the best is yet to come. And yet, the series ended years ago and we'll never going to see them again, and that makes me sad. Maybe that's just me, and maybe it's because I binged both shows in a very short time span, but I've never felt so unfulfilled with a series finale. I've never wanted so bad for a TV show to give me more. Oh ... and I also rewatched the Shyamalan movie and I guess now I truly understand why people hate it so much. It was fucking terrible.

Really glad you loved it, they’re also some of my favourite shows and I feel like I rewatch them all the time. My friend recently watched them for the first time, which gave me a good excuse, so they’re really fresh in my mind. The music (especially in Korra) is probably the best score I’ve heard in any tv show I’ve watched, and certainly at least on-par with my favourite film scores. I can see what you mean with the ending of Korra being a bit sudden. I saw the finale when it first aired and also found the conclusion a bit underwhelming, but I’ve grown to love it over time. I know there are lots of comics that continue the stories of both shows, as well as a prequel novel series about Kyoshi, but I admit I’ve never really been tempted - the change in medium isn’t super appealing to me since you lose quite a bit. But yeah if you’re ever tempted to watch them again, maybe pace yourself

I’m watching The Expanse’s new season. Excellent so far, this show is so good and deserves all of the attention. Sadly its getting cut short and one of the actors was fired because he is a monster. Also Amos stripped to his underwear this week and whoa boy, there were stirrings.
Also bingeing The Boys on Amazon Prime. Fantastic, i’m coming to the end of Season 2 and very impressed. How to describe it? I guess its like Justice League, but they’re managed by a Capitalist corporation and welcome Murderers, Rapists, voyeurs and Nazis. I don’t know how intentional it is but the Deep’s scenes are completely hilarious. Theres a scene with a dolphin, and one with a lobster....oh and then a moment with his gills...
I also finished His Dark Materials season two just before Christmas. Another great show even if the ending was a bit disappointing compared to the book. One particular moment of it only though, the rest was excellent. Sadly we lost the intended James McAvoy episode due to COVID19 restrictions on filming so that part of the story was underdeveloped.
And of course Drag Race is back on our screens and soon i will have two seasons at once! UK and U.S. Got to say, and maybe its just national pride showimg through, the U.K queens are so much more entertaining from what we’ve seem of them. I feel like US audiences dont really understand the British style of drag and sense of humour. Also one of them is from near-ish where I live. Like a 15 minute train ride. Gads, remember trains? Public transport? We don’t know her any more

so in 2020 i watched a lot of TV to be honest. i watched -how to get away with murder -the undoing -the flight attendant -haunting of bly manor -dracula
and some others i can't remember. i realize this isn't actually a lot, but i have the attention span of a squirrel so it's a lot for me. HTGAWM quickly become one my favorite shows ever, so I'm really glad I watched it.

so i saw on twitter the other day that HBO now has three game of thrones-universe shows on the way.
there's the targaryen one (which is apparently about the targ civil war), there's apparently one about dunk and egg (idk what that is, i never read those books), and then just the other day they want to make a robert's rebellion show.
i have no backbone so i already know i'll watching anything game of thrones related (despite how disappointing the OG show ended), so i'll def be there if/when these shows actually come out. but that's years away. but a robert's rebellion show means more cersei and tywin, and more cersei and tywin is always better

It's a pity, The Last Airbender could have been an amazing film franchise, it's a shame it never got adapted.

Many years late to this one, but Gotham is pretty good. How far through are you? I remember watching when it came out and I think I got to around the middle of season 2 before moving on to other things. The whole show seems to be on netflix now so I might give it a second shot, would you say it’s worth it?

Many years late to this one, but Gotham is pretty good. How far through are you? I remember watching when it came out and I think I got to around the middle of season 2 before moving on to other things. The whole show seems to be on netflix now so I might give it a second shot, would you say it’s worth it? I'm up to season 4 now. The show is decent. I definitely wouldn't say its amazing but I enjoy it, even if certain elements in it do grate on my nerves ( cough Barbara Kean cough). It's all on Netflix so if you wanna pick it back up its there. All I would say in regards to that is the show doesn't exactly get worse imo, but the quality of the writing definitely doesn't improve either. I'm gonna ride it out at this point though. There is one thing that is beginning to get annoying though and that's the shows overuse of certain plot points. I'll spoiler tag because it is post season 2 content and you may still wanna watch it. In season 2 the show introduces the concept of resurrection via Hugo Strange and Indian Hill, and at first it's pretty cool. But then they suddenly start bringing back more and more people, and introducing new ways to revive them. First there's Indian Hill, which is fine, makes sense. But then we get the Lazarus Pit, which I suppose gets a pass for being in the original comics, but still. Then we just get really agregious examples, like a bunch of Joker fanatics who shocked corpses back to life, and perhaps the worst yet, a coma patient being dumped in a lake that just happened to contain evil science stuff. It's starting to really annoying me how much the show uses resurrection as a crutch for the narrative. Especially in situations where the show kills off characters in a satisfying or culminative fashion. At the end of season 1 Fish Mooney gets killed in a fairly satisfying way to cement Penguin's rise to the top. Its pretty much a high point as far as the writing goes. Then she gets brought back for some reason by Hugo Strange, just kind of lingers around in the background of the narrative, then dies in a random gunfight because reasons... That's just an example of course, but I'm sure you get the point. That said, the show has some bright spots, and it's mainly the villains for me. Jerome Valeska is definitely one of the better additions to the series and it will forever irk me that the showrunners were prevented from using the iconic green hair or Joker name at the time because of Suicide Squad of all things. We were robbed of the single most iconic Batman villain just so that Jared Leto could perform the single worst Joker of all time.

The pandemic is giving me the chance to catch up on shows that I've been wanting to watch for a long time. I recently finished Schitt's Creek, and it's another one that's become one of my all-time favourites. It's kind of a sitcom, but the style of comedy reminds me more of Always Sunny ... in the sense that it's not your classic sitcom, where you've got to have these super forced, laughing out loud gags in every other sentence. The comedy in Schitt's Creek is much more subtle and comes from just very smart, very quotable writing and some freaking fantastic character work by the actors, especially Catherine O'Hara as Moira. I swear, that character is perhaps the greatest creations in recent television. All the characters are great though, not just Moira. I especially loved Alexis. And I love that the show is not just silly comedy all the time, but also has really solid storytelling underneath it all as well as beautifully compelling relationships and character growth. It's just such a great show, and I'm so happy that it won like every major award at the Emmys last year. Also, I can't get the line "Where is bebe's chamber?" out of my head.

If I could strongly recommend a show right now, it would be Queen of the South. It's an american show based on a telenovela that was big in latin america. it's good as FUCK. It's all about the cartel, basically. This girl gets swept up into the drug trade, and ends up in the middle of a feud between a drug lord and his equally badass wife (epifanio and camila toxic power OTP) and, well...things escalate. really well written, really well acted, fast paced and mega violent- right up my alley! I'm on season 2 now, i'm totally loving it.
